Mizuna Wed 16-Aug-23 15:59:55

Honestly, Marydoll, I'm surprised they let you out of the house! gringrin I've lived right next to dunes and the most exciting thing I ever saw were rabbits who lived in among the marram grass. But I agree they are very difficult to walk on when you're disabled. You go down and down rather than up and up. Well, I did anyway!

Grannyme6 Wed 16-Aug-23 13:09:14

Yes it’s my go-to place as well GG13 - I too am an RHS member. This time with a friend, I know it’ll be busy (mainly the parking) but plenty of space to spread out after that. And am looking forward to the cake!

Taichinan Wed 16-Aug-23 11:35:26

Pastry SHIP, not shop!

Taichinan Wed 16-Aug-23 11:07:26

Happy Birthday grammaretto! Hope you can sleep that cold away.
Mizuna that pastry shop is magnificent! And I love his sense of humour as well 😂

Good morning from sunny West Sussex.

I rashly volunteered to accompany DGD1 (19) when she takes DGD2 (8) swimming. The 8 year old absolutely adores her cousin but doesn’t often get to spend time with her. DGD1 can be a bit scatty which is why I volunteered to be a back-up adult. Unfortunately the pool is nearly an hour away from me so my plans for today are scuppered. It’s lovely to see them together though.

Happy birthday Grammaretto. Hope the cold clears up quickly.

Marydoll, I despair! It sounds like a great day though 🙂

Susan hope your cyst heals speedily.

I must go and hang the washing out before going swimming.

Enjoy the sunshine.

Good morning Mick and all from hot and sunny Lancashire.

The weather turned warm and sunny yesterday afternoon. My mammogram appointment went Ok, the blood test clinic was heaving and had had to close its doors early. I will need to check out the times for our nearest one. MrB has gone to Lidl, I will go and help him put the shopping away. I have lots more shredding to do, this afternoon I will try out my new pedometer.

Beautiful pics LadyLFL, great that you can spend time with your brother.

Hope the pesky knee is on the mend Taichinan.

I’m sorry you’re poorly on your birthday Grammaretto, hope it’s gone by the weekend.

Love the ship Mizuna so clever.

Another Marydoll adventure day, you do make me chuckle but I’m sure it was far from funny at the time. A definite win on the dress shopping though. The shop assistant must have good taste to compliment you on your style. I use the snow basket on my trekking pole when we visit our nearest beach, which has miles of beautiful dunes. If the sand is really soft I have to crawl on my hands and knees! Please rest today.

Thinking of all our poorlies, Baggs, Kalu and Urms are never far from my thoughts flowers

Have a good day all.🌻

Good morning from a lovely bright Co Armagh, nice but nippy .
I made myself stay in bed today , I have joined the ranks of bad sleepers and getting like a chewed string , nodding off mid afternoon!
The AGM of our wed club is this morning , I haven’t typed up my notes from last year , but promised madam president I’ll read from my notes ….. if I can decipher them !
I can’t type , DD did it for me last year, but the complaints about my scribble made me not ask again , I tell her it’s not bad handwriting, it’s her eyes !!
Best wishes and 🕯️ for all

Good morning all from bright but cloudy Harrogate. Another place for your new furniture is an online shop Wayfair , similar prices to IKEA, some is flat pack and some is made up. GrandMattie
Yesterday DH had a hospital appointment at 8am, he walked to the hospital but I (who gave up driving earlier this year) had to pick him up!! I stared this post 2 hours ago but got interrupted which is normal in this house! Yesterday afternoon we went for a lovely walk round Ripley Castle gardens. It’s a beautiful village built in a French style.
Today hopefully will get a trip to Lidl for exotic shopping!! This afyibeli E I will be landed with DGD. No problem there but she is hyperactive
Have the best day possible folks

Greyduster Wed 16-Aug-23 09:40:19

Grammaretto Happy 3/4’s of a century 🎂🎉🥂🎂🎉🥂
I hope you are feeling better soon and able to celebrate.

Susan56 ouch

MaryDoll I am sorry but I’d did have a giggle at you throwing yourself out of the path of horses, I hope only your pride was injured, rest and relaxation are my orders for you today!

GrannyGravy13 Wed 16-Aug-23 09:08:37

Grannyme6

Morning all from a bright south east.
Pilates this morning and this afternoon a visit with a friend to RHS Hyde Hall. I’m sure we’ll stop for a cup of tea and cake whilst there.
Happy birthday to Grammaretto, hope you feel better soon.

Oh enjoy Hyde Hall I am a RHS member, it is my go to place when feeling a bit down it never fails to lift my spirits (and the cake is remarkably good)

Stilllearning Wed 16-Aug-23 09:08:26

Morning all from a sunny S Lanarkshire, blue skies are so uplifting.

Thanks for the information and picture of the chimes Gingster, like Taichanan I had envisioned hand bells! I bet they make a lovely sound and I am going to enquire around but I have to say I’ve not heard of them in our part of the world.

Happy Birthday Grammaretto, I do hope you feel better soon.

Mizuna, your pictures of the tall ships (and the talented baker’s replica) have been so engaging, it must be a wonderful sight.

Exercise class today, the last for four weeks as our physio leader returns to her native Holland to see her family. She is softening in her (and our) old age and chats a little now in the middle of bossing us about!

I’m going straight from there to stay a couple of nights with DD4, dog sitting instead of childminding, it’s a lot easier and I’ll get a chance to catch up with friends who live near her.

Wishing everyone the chance to enjoy some sunshine x

Good morning from a bright and sunny Torbay.

A late start for me having had a much needed lie-in! The busy evenings and late nights are catching up with me.

We had a delicious lunch at the beachside restaurant yesterday; the photo was the view from our table. The funicular railway was back in operation following a long closure after a fatal accident last year. Two months before, my DH and I had taken out an annual subscription. I was pleased to hear that this will be honoured and valid until next June, which is very fair.

Happy hump day and my thoughts are with those in difficulty of any kind. 🥰😎💐🦩

Pittcity Wed 16-Aug-23 09:00:49

Happy Birthday Grammaretto. Get well soon.

luluaugust Wed 16-Aug-23 08:59:06

Good morning from a sunny W Kent. Just off to Drs appointment and then to meet DF for coffee.
Happy Birthday Grammaretto hope you feel better soon.
Oh dear Susan that sounds nasty glad you got prompt attention.
Best wishes to all

Gingster Wed 16-Aug-23 08:57:07

I’ve just returned from queuing at the surgery for an appointment. I was 10th in line and I arrived half an hour before opening. I’ve got an infected thumb, of all things, and feel stupid going with such a small ailment. It’s soooo sore and now going a funny colour. It’s amazing the things you need your thumb for! 🤣.
Dh is going fishing so I’ll walk up to the docs and have a wander around the market. I’ll be too late for Mass.

It’s going to be warm again so not much physical activity today. The heat drains me.

Happy birthday Gramaretto. Sorry you have a nasty cold. 🤧

Fabulous bakers Mizuna that really is a piece of art.

Enjoy Hyde Hall Grannyme6. We go often but will leave it until the children go back to school.

Hollysteers that made me laugh . I can imagine you chatting away to Prince Andrew with him sharing his secret news with you. . 🤣.

Get well wishes for all poorlies 🙏 🌻

Good morning everyone from a bright and sunny 🌞Northampton. Not much on today; will probably go to the well-being cafe this afternoon, but I need to give the vacuum cleaner some exercise first downstairs and then take it upstairs for tomorrow's work-out. I should cut the back grass as well, but just can't face it yet.

Had a lovely walk yesterday in good company and sunshine; it was good to see everyone again.

Happy birthday Grammaretto, have a lovely day.

EkwaNimitee Wed 16-Aug-23 08:52:03

Good morning Mick and everyone from sunny Carlisle. I've gone back to bare feet and sandals!

Yesterday, I got the heavier housework out of the way, deadheaded in the garden and chased my medical appointment, still no joy on that but hopefully today.

I'm another with broken sleep and unsettling dreams, where do they come from?!
Nothing much is planned for today except not to be parted from my phone in case my appointment needs to be arranged.
I have various little jobs to do and some admin, plus I may well carry on sorting out more books I know I won't want to read again. I made a start on that yesterday. Some were dated inside, and some had been sitting untouched on my shelves since 1984! Time to go, and doesn't the print in older books seem tiny these days....

Hopefully, everyone gets to appreciate some sun today....

Marydoll Wed 16-Aug-23 08:46:49

Good morning all from a cloudy Glasgow, where it id 11°C.

I'm another, who had a bad night, still awake at 4am. Sadly it has become the norm for me.

Today I am having an enforced rest day, I am wiped out after yesterday's full on day out with Dollie.
My only plan is to continue building a parish email list, it is a mind numbingly tedious task. 🥱

We eventually decided to visit Harbourside in Irvine, a favourite haunt and not too far away.
Dollie had specifically asked for a Macdonalds as a treat, before starting back at school today and we knew there was one thereabouts.

It turned out to be quite an adventure!
Out roads are full of roadworks here and the town is gridlocked.
The road out of town to the coast is closed, the alternative route through the neighbouring village is also gridlocked, due to five way temporary traffic lights. They even blocked off access to the GP surgery during surgery hours and a GP had to phone the LA, because the doctors couldn't get out on house calls!

We had the not so bright idea of going to Paisley instead and driving over the braes, unfortunately, when we got to the foot of the braes, that country road too was closed. It was a nightmare and the Sat Nav kept trying to take us back home to use the closed route.
Dollie found the Sat Nav's constant recalculating voice highly amusing!
Fortunately we were brought up there and knew all the alternative routes, up hill and down Dale, although our Sat Nav wasn't happy at all.
We didn't want to switch it off, as we had plans to go to an unfamiliar part of our destination.
Our journey, which normally takes thirty minutes took a hour and a quarter! We actually passed by Babydoll's home, but had no time to visit, much to Dollie's annoyance!

It turned out to be a great day out! I discovered a shopping mall, (oh joy!) and bought a sale dress ( which I didn't need ). The assistant asked me where my outfit was from, saying she liked outfits, which were different. I think it was a complement.
I told her it was Seasalt and White Stuff, which she thought were rather expensive for her. I directed her to my favourite Otrium site, telling her my White Stuff leggings cost £5 in the sale.
My heart meds cause frequent loo visits and a cleaner overheard me telling DH I was desperate.
He kindly escorted me through some swing doors and unlocked a disabled toilet, I would never have found, without his help. A little kindnesss warms your heart.
DH thanked him and they had a conversation about the fact that although I had a radar key, like all women it was lost in the depths of my bag and that his gesture had done DH a favour, by keeping me out of the shops!

We then tried to find Macdonalds using my phone, but went in the wrong direction. DH was adamant he was right, but I was seriously flagging, so stopped some people, who redirected us back through the mall, and outside. 😡

My next bright idea was to find the beach, which we have never been to before, that's when the fun started.
The beach consists of very high sand dunes, not ideal if you have mobility issues.
DH and Hollie, with difficulty managed them, I got stuck!
They were out of sight, when I heard DH shouting a warning. Two large horses appeared at the top of the dune and I was in their way, sinking in the sand, with nowhere to go!😱
For someone who is disabled, I moved pretty quickly and threw myself into the grassy part of the dune.
I did make it to the beach, but before I knew it, Dollie had removed her trainers and was in the water, paddling. She can wrap her papa round her little finger. I had no alternative, but to go in with her, because I was terrified she would fall and get her clothes wet. Admittedly, I enjoyed it too!

Then the drama started. I couldn't get up the dunes, no matter how I tried. DH realised that I was struggling and came back to find me very breathless and a little upset at my frailty.
A passing gentleman commented that, that fortunately the Coastguard helicopter was stationed a few miles down the road, for it looked as if I would need to be winched off the beach! Oh the ignominity of it all! 😂.

Susan, what a shock for you, I hope the wound heals quickly and Gramaretto, birthday greetings, I hope you feel better soon. All the pharmacies here sell Covid tests. Perhaps better to be safe than sorry!

Have a good day folks, whatever your plans. I'm still in bed, the sun is now shining, but I have no energy to get up!! 💤💤💤💤

Good morning all and happy birthday Grammaretto !
I felt a little deflated when none of the younger generation seemed impressed by my 3/4 century earlier this year - one problem being that D, SIL, BIL a DGS and I all have birthdays within a few days of each other and this year it was also close to the first anniversary of D2’s MIL’s death so she and all of SIL’s family wanted to be together for that ☹️☹️ So I went out for lunch with friends up here instead. We did have a family gathering the previous weekend, but granny’s birthdays don’t seem to impress them. I was just glad to have made it this far. gringrin
Hope all you have got is a cold - we are more cautious these days aren’t we? I hope a lie in with lots of Lemsip or hot toddies bangs it on the head for you.
Car back eventually yesterday, and boiler serviced so I had the perfect excuse for my enforced staying in with A Spy Among Friends (the book).
It looks to be a lovely day today though and I hope it is a kind one to you all.

Beechnut Wed 16-Aug-23 08:41:18

Good Morning all from sunny Severnside.

I’ve some window cleaning to do today as they haven’t been done for a while. I should see about getting a window cleaner.
