I can’t decide

Just recently I booked a much needed short break as I have a free weekend but now I want to cancel. I can get a full refund up to 3 pm today. I just don’t think I will cope in this heatwave. I can keep cool at home.

Is your break in a city or a country or coastal break this could make all the difference.

granfromafar Thu 07-Sept-23 07:41:56

Agree with rosie1959. We have a long weekend booked to Dorset coast and am relieved to see forecast is several degrees lower than inland. Will be much more bearable.
Also, is it far to travel to your break? Driving in this heat can be uncomfortable.

I really think that you have answered your own question. If you have doubts then cancel, that would be my advice and my choice if it were me.

There's no joy in struggling in the heat and quite honestly, you would be far safer at home.

You can still enjoy your free weekend with some special treats at home.

If I'm honest I only enjoy a heatwave if I have access to a pool so I can cool off .
If you are uncomfortable in hot weather -stay at home until the weather is more tolerable and then you will enjoy yourself.

If you are near the sea in UK there is likely to be a sea breeze. I am off to Pembrokeshire tomorrow for the weekend and am pinning my hopes on that!

I wouldn’t want to be getting ready for a break or travelling in this heat. We are not far from the sea but there’s very little breeze.

Unless it’s around 40 plus I wouldn’t cancel, especially if it is coastal. Make the most of it, better than freezing rain !

Juliet27 Thu 07-Sept-23 09:12:17

You’re no doubt used to regular high temperatures there in Australia nanna8 but here they can’t be predicted so we don’t adapt to them. Even at 30 the humidity is usually awful.

The two day heatwave has gone from here today it’s damp and dull. You might be surprised if you go and actually enjoy it.

cancel

Cabbie21 Thu 07-Sept-23 10:45:07

Well I have just been out and enjoyed a walk in a shady park but that was enough. There are steps down to a lakeside walk in the valley but I knew I would not cope with coming back up again, even though it is still only so I have decided to cancel my trip to the Cotswolds. It would be no pleasure coping with the hills in this heat.

We have a short break booked in North Northumberland at the beginning of next week. Guess what is forecast? Rain and 18°c.

Redhead56 Thu 07-Sept-23 10:57:31

We are going to Durham next week deciding what clothes to pack is bothering me. It’s going to be a right mix summer tops and woolly jumpers.

henetha Thu 07-Sept-23 11:15:15

I almost booked to go to Cornwall this week, but am so glad I didn't. I can hide away from this heat at home, open the patio doors, put my fan on, etc.

Germanshepherdsmum Thu 07-Sept-23 11:18:48

Good decision Cabbie. It wouldn’t have been a refreshing break and you would have been stressed in the lead-up. Book again when the weather is more suitable and in the meantime keep cool at home.

rosie1959 Thu 07-Sept-23 11:19:34

Wished we had time to go away this week to the coast but too much on looking forward to retirement when we can just please ourselves.

Cabbie21 Thu 07-Sept-23 12:46:59

Thanks for all the comments. I am sure I have made the right decision this time. I will plan for some early morning walks before it gets too hot. Windows shut, curtains closed on the sunny side of the house to keep the heat out.

pascal30 Thu 07-Sept-23 12:56:09

So many people here on the coast in the S/E have Covid now..good choice Cabbie

karmalady Thu 07-Sept-23 13:02:08

I have a cinema ticket for the weekend, saturday which will be the hottest day of the year, that plus covid spreading fast. I am not going to go and I would be doing the same if I were you Cabbie

Joseann Thu 07-Sept-23 13:12:41

Glad you feel relieved with your decision now made Cabbie.
Cases are packed here for the off to Brittany tomorrow where at the weekend it will be an unusual 30°. 🤞
