I'm mindful that whatever our opinion of the new King, it is the result of careful PR and mostly pro royal family press. I agree with those who say he's made little impact on their lives.

No I havent noticed anything either.

Which is as it should be.

Unlike America 😲

I do not believe that an elected President would remain apolitical. It just would not happen.

Charles seems to be fine as King, but I find it difficult to accept Camilla as queen. She’s no more a queen than I am.

I really can't say I've noticed. Things go on much as normal. None of them really impact on my life, or the lives of most people.

But that means he's doing a good job! And the continuity has been seamless which is what I like about our system of government.

He has not been controversial, interfered (although he may have had plenty to say during his audiences with the Prime Ministers), done what is expected of him as Head of State of a Constitutional Monarchy, supported by those who are working Royals.

I don't see how it could have gone any better and I hope he has many years to come.

Mollygo Fri 08-Sept-23 10:26:11

I agree it’s been a good start and long may it continue to go well.

luluaugust Fri 08-Sept-23 10:09:13

I think it has all gone very well. I have a feeling that having had a long time to think about it he knows just what he wants to do.Lovely to see how well he and Anne get on

I agree. It's been a good start to his reign and long may it continue. I hope there will be some suitable changes, but done carefully. To me he represents stability in a changing world.

I hope all those who said Charles should never succeed are rethinking their words.
I think he has done a good job in a changing world.
It is unlikely that William will wait as long but I hope he has many years to mature into the role.

Yes I feel his first year has gone well, far better than he and many people expected; he is seen to be working hard to fulfill a challenging role in the 21st century.

Yes, I think they are becoming more and more popular. I went to London for the Coronation and there was genuine warmth and excitement from people of all generations on the Mall.

Anniebach Fri 08-Sept-23 08:58:26

Definitely doing a good job

merlotgran Fri 08-Sept-23 08:56:11

They’re both doing a great job and so are William and Kate.

sodapop Fri 08-Sept-23 08:51:43

I agree GrannyGravy13 King Charles continues to respect his mother's legacy whilst bringing his own ideas to the monarchy.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 08-Sept-23 07:57:50

I think he is doing a great job.

Joseann Fri 08-Sept-23 07:38:01

I agree.
In a strange sort of way, I think his mature age at succession has given him an easier ride than had he been 20 years younger.
He made a real impact in his speech in Germany, and I'm hoping he will really impress with what he says in France next week.
Because he is keeping away from politics, he is actually gaining more respect I think.

NanKate Fri 08-Sept-23 07:27:12

I agree CalendarGirl.

So a year has passed since the death of Queen Elizabeth 11.

That news generated much discussion on GN, and we wondered how Charles would fit as King. Big shoes to fill.

Well., it all seems to have gone pretty well. He and Camilla stepped into their new roles with apparent ease, bringing a new informality but still retaining dignity and tradition. Ably supported by the Wales, Anne and the Edinburghs.

I think the late queen would be proud and relieved.
