My new hobby

I enjoy word puzzles, cryptic or word-for-word.
Recently I started to do number puzzles, such as Suduko which I find more challenging - though it's just elimination and logic really.

I always passed cryptic crosswords by but tried one and enjoyed the challenge. So that's my new hobby too.

If anyone is in U3A they run a zoom cryptic crossword course. 6 x 1.5hr sessions.

One of the best days I ever spent was years ago when I attended a Cryptic crossword all day class. I learned so much. This was through Adult Ed. The tutor was brilliant and made it seem so logical.

I used to knit basic jumpers etc for my son and daughter but haven't for years.
I was knitting different scarves last winter. I found it helped my arthritic hands they literally cease up if not in use.
I have started knitting squares for blanket making for dementia patients to cuddle and I'm enjoying it.

Dh and I photocopy the Times Word for Word one every day to do at lunchtime and the cryptic one to do with our afternoon cup of tea.

We like to see who finishes first but we often have to collaborate on one or two.

Thanks for that tip Littleannie, I will check out that website, and well done you on having been a compiler.

I love cryptic crosswords. I find word for word ones boring. I always finish the Daily Mail and Telegraph ones every day. If you find some a little difficult can I recommend a website called lovattspuzzles.com which has fairly easy ones, and a guide on how to complete them. I'm sure you will find it helpful.
By the way, I used to be a crossword compiler, but it paid peanuts for the time involved.
Happy puzzling!

For as long as I can remember, I've enjoyed doing crosswords, that is the straightforward, quick or easy ones.
However, recently I find them rather unchallenging, so thought I might try the cryptic ones, which I never bothered to look at before.
I find it's great fun, trying to find the connection with or scrambling of words.
I sometimes engage the help of Mr Google just to speed things up when I've become stuck.
Have you found a new, unlikely hobby and are you enjoying it?
