Ahh love her / disgusted by her - is she your Marmite? Saw the interview on ThisMorning...she's made the front cover on Vogue...at 82
She can be very hilarious but loves her fart talk -was most interested in her mint front botty therapy....what do other GNs think?

Ghastly, crude, vulgar.

Allsorts Wed 13-Sept-23 18:18:43

Can’t stand the vulgar woman.

I neither liked nor disliked her but did find her hugely entertaining. She was a marvellous actress, especially in her Dickens roles. And she made me laugh during her TV appearances. I loved her autobiography a few years back.
So I suppose I am a fan really. But I do understand why some people couldn't stand her.

I love her and have booked to see her in Manchester next month. Really looking forward to it.

Not a fan but saw her on the Australia programme touring and meeting indigenous people who she was quite sympathetic to.

She says she doesn’t like children but she’s absolutely brilliant with them.

I adore her. Frankly, I have a bit of a crush. Once you overlook the bodily functions stuff - and honestly that just gets overquoted,

No it doesn’t. She’s been on enough TV programmes quite happily sharing her vulgarities whether we want them or not and I don’t!

I also don’t believe a word of her account of Jacqueline du Pré’s death.

Shelflife Wed 13-Sept-23 17:40:29

I read her autobiography and enjoyed it. She is a very complex character who loves to shock people!! She is very rude , uninhibited and absolutely outrageous. However I quite like her and think underneath her obvious character she is a sensitive and caring woman . Don't know how I would feel if spent time with her she is a strong and scary lady!!!

Musicgirl Wed 13-Sept-23 17:37:38

I don’t like her at all. She seems to have never outgrown playground humour - stuck at the level of an eight year old who falls about with laughter if they hear the word bum.

I adore her. Frankly, I have a bit of a crush. Once you overlook the bodily functions stuff - and honestly that just gets overquoted, I think - she’s brilliantly insightful and hilariously funny. And although she’s not typically beautiful, I think she’s absolutely gorgeous.

An appalling foul mouthed old bag!

👏👏

That’s very true Meryl, or Stacy Dooley

MerylStreep Wed 13-Sept-23 16:01:22

The only reason her lets see if I can shock you attitude is accepted is because of her beautiful voice.
I can imagine the outcry if, let’s say, Angela Rayner shared with us, she would be crucified 😱

I caught part of her one woman show when I was channel hopping one night and she was brilliant. I don’t know how actors of a certain age have such energy and am completely baffled how anyone of any age can memorise such large chunks of books and plays. As someone who feels that they’ve spent their whole life with their digestive system waging war against them I’m glad that she happily brings such matters out into the open!

Whitewavemark2 Wed 13-Sept-23 15:40:47

Yes, I’ve read her book and agree with the comments. I do like her but would find her intimidating i think. She is very obsessed with the nether regions which seems just a way to shock really.

Urmstongran Wed 13-Sept-23 15:24:16

What a fantastic review Luckygirl thank you! I really enjoyed reading it.

MM is an odd bird.
I don’t dislike her -she makes me laugh - but I don’t LIKE her either. She seems a bit insensitive (or uncaring) about embarrassing other people!

Kate1949 Wed 13-Sept-23 15:23:05

I don't think I'm easily shocked but I read her book and when she said that when she was young she offered random strangers (men) a you know what because she was good at it, I must admit I was shocked.

LovesBach Wed 13-Sept-23 15:17:41

She does seem to go for the shock tactic - I dislike this trait in comedy, when swearing, or using material designed to embarass, is used to provoke laughter. MM can be funny and creative in her work. Maybe the real Miriam is a less challenging creature, away from the spotlight.

BlueBelle Wed 13-Sept-23 15:13:02

I love marmite and I like the courage of MM and I most often agree with what she says in a much more educated way than me I really don’t care that it’s littered with ‘ gutter words’
I think she’s a top woman with a big heart, a big brain, and an even bigger mouth

sassysaysso Wed 13-Sept-23 15:05:28

Does anybody else remember her in her first TV role in 'The Girls of Slender Means' from a Muriel Spark novel? I think it was in the 70s on BBC 2

Esmay Wed 13-Sept-23 14:54:01

Thanks for the in depth review , Lucky girl .

Part of me admires Miriam's sheer chutzpah and part of me is irritated by her obsession with bodily functions .
She is clever and talented .
I'd like to see her doing more acting and less posing .

Luckygirl - great review!

Ailidh Wed 13-Sept-23 14:32:33

The difference is I like Marmite. 😁
