Isn't it marvellous summer is over!

I am sitting in the kitchen looking out of a large window, watching th trees swaying in the breeze, with just a hint of yeloow about them.

The rain is sluicing down, I can hear it as it hits the windowpanes. and the water is dripping off next door's roof. The lawn is completely green again.

After all those windless relentless days of sun and no movement, it is lovely to see nature alive again.

Come the weekend I will start wearing winter clothes and we will stop eating salads and return to soup, sandwiches and baked potatoes.

Isn't it marvellous that summer is over!

Walks in the woods
You'd get rather soaked round here.
Drip, drip, drip.

But it will be sunny at 7pm 🙂

Lovely, lovely autumn!

Crisp, sunny Autumn days, especially with the golden/russet colours of the changing trees can be lovely, the same can be said for Winter days, although I do increasingly find the glare of low Winter sun a curse to drive in. It's all the dark afternoons and grey, drizzly days that are so dreary.

Love it!
Not having to drag myself around in the heat feeling drained with no energy.

Autumn is my favourite season with warm colours of nature,
Walks in the woods and along the beach. Not so many people around and coming back to a slow cooked dinner, wood burner and reading a good book.
Pulling the curtains and cosying down for the evening.
Cold airy bedrooms and being able to sleep . Lovely! 🍁🍂🥮🎃🕯️

I like all seasons apart from the depths of winter when I just can’t wait for spring.

Witzend

I do like autumn, and was looking forward to cooler weather after 38-40 deg on holiday.
OTOH I just came back from shopping like a drowned rat, having forgotten to take a brolly. It was blowing a gale (I didn’t mind that) with the odd spot of rain, but then the heavens opened.

Yes, crisp sunny autumn days, crunching on fallen leaves walking through the woods is lovely.
Idyllic.

But the reality is usually different.
But rain is forecast for at least a week, soon there will be piles of leaves to sweep up and storms to dodge.

Beautiful autumn is here - although this summer has been rather more to my liking than previous years. Hot, sleepless nights, scorching temperatures, I dislike it all. The softness of golden autumn, with its long shadows and glorious colours, restores calm. Yes - it is wonderful.

Callistemon21 Wed 20-Sept-23 15:47:52

No, we were supposed to go out today, a long journey to pick up medication from the hospital and some shopping.
There was a gale blowing, the rain coming down horizontally so we postponed it.

I feel sorry for anyone who has to go out, particularly if they have to rely on public transport and a long walk either end.

At my/our age I am reluctant to wish any time away and while I am happy enough to be packing away the linens and the t shirts, a little voice at the back of m mind wonders if I’ll be unpacking them in 6 months time. Even if so, what will our world look like?

Delila Wed 20-Sept-23 15:43:45

Yes, down with November! 👎🏼

Love January and February where I live. Very cold, crisp, dry- massive blue skies and sparkly snow. The one month I'd happily get rid of is November. Give me another 2 weeks in May and 2 weeks in October smile

Which is why whenever possible we skied a 7/10 days in January and again in February each year until DH’s knees and feet gave up 😡😡😡

I enjoy the change of seasons, but I love late spring and summer.

Light long evenings, being able to sit and eat outside and long hot sunny days (a rarity this year).

January and February are just do dismal and depressing, seem to go on for far longer than two months…

I think I like winter best, as long as it isn’t difficult for others. I love having an excuse to stay indoors by the fire. My Gran used to say that you love best the season in which you were born. In my case that is true.

Kate1949 Wed 20-Sept-23 15:22:13

Relentless days of sun? I must have blinked and missed those.

What I dislike so much about autumn and winter is the dark morning and getting dark early in the evening. Must be a spring summer person 80% of my clothes are more suitable for the better weather.

Fleurpepper Wed 20-Sept-23 15:18:14

Must say I feel very lucky that I love all seasons. Autumn is probably my favourite, but I love them all. And would hate to live in a climate where seasons are not marked.

AGAA4 Wed 20-Sept-23 15:18:04

I prefer autumn and winter to summer. Summers can be so disappointing with humid damp days or blisteringly hot so I can't go out.
I can wrap up warm in winter and the places I like to walk are quieter.
I don't enjoy the light nights as I feel I should be doing something and going to bed at 10pm with the sun still shining sometimes.
So yes glad summer is over.

BlueBelle Wed 20-Sept-23 15:13:40

We haven’t had much Summer this year and the thought of dark mornings, dark afternoons/ evenings and shivering with dressing gowns and hot water bottles for the next 9 months is a blooming miserable thought

Germanshepherdsmum Wed 20-Sept-23 15:13:23

Yes! I much prefer the cooler temperatures and softer light of autumn, and I prefer autumn and winter clothes too. I enjoy the nights drawing in, the fire and candles. Hopefully the colour in the garden will continue until the first frosts.

Delila Wed 20-Sept-23 15:09:05

Every season is beautiful in this country, it’s hard to choose which I like best, but they’re all welcome when they arrive.

nanaK54 Wed 20-Sept-23 15:08:27

Each to their own and all that - but no, I really don't enjoy winter and would welcome a return to some good weather.

Grandma70s Wed 20-Sept-23 15:07:31

Yes, I think it’s marvellous! I much prefer autumn and winter, and feel real thrill when the nights start drawing in.

I dread summer every year, because I loathe heat and am not really interested in outdoor pursuits. Why would I want to eat outdoors with the flies and the wasps? Indoors is much more civilised.

Winter clothes are more interesting, too, with different textures - not to mention the fact that I am now old enough to prefer to be covered up!

Bridie22 Wed 20-Sept-23 15:04:01

Hate winter, the cold the damp, having to wear layers of clothing, dreading it...unlike some lucky folk we haven't really had a summer this year.

fancythat Wed 20-Sept-23 14:56:28

And the heating and electric bills!
We have done some things to mitigate things, but even so..
