Fanny
Don’t beat yourself up.
If you don’t know, you don’t know 😄
Remember the flack Delia Smith got with her book How to boil an egg? I repeat the above. 😊

Hello!
Thanks for your replies.

I was under the impression that the machine had to scan the disabled badge, like a credit card, so I was pressing it up against the two screens that were available.

This was totally wrong!
The machine was actually more like a security camera. Doh 🙄

You just had to press the button which alerted some invisible person in a kiosk (or something) and then vaguely waft the badge in front of the screen so that they knew you were in possession of it.

Very simple in actuality 🤦‍♀️

At the the Oxford Nuffield hospital you have to book in advance and give your disabled badge number. At the JR just enter your badge number as you leave the car park, it seems that each hospital has its own system, which is confusing.

There is a new system at our local hospital where we have to park and then take the blue badge to the reception where they log your registration number to stop the guys towing your car away!

Come back and tell us exactly what you had to do - then you can come back and read it before your next appointment in case you forget again !

Sadly I think every parking machine has its own system so what helps at one hospital probably wouldn't have helped your situation. Good luck

Fanny , I hope all goes well in the car park this afternoon. I recognize how you feel, I would be exactly the same. All I can suggest is you try and remain calm and when you reach the barrier don't be afraid to ask someone to help you. Going for a hospital appointment is stressful enough!! You can be fairly sure you will not be alone in your uncertainty!! Good luck , let us know how you got on.

Thank you, yes, I should have done that.
It’s too late now.
I was convinced that there would be something on the internet 🤦‍♀️

Maybe phone the hospital and enquire?

FannyCornforth Fri 22-Sept-23 12:10:31

Anyone?

Hello!

Last time we went to the hospital I had to present DH’s disability car parking badge to a robot thing next to the barrier.

I did not have a clue what I was doing and there were no instructions.

I got into a complete panic as there were loads of cars mounting up behind us.

Some lovely man told me what to do, but I was in such a fluster, I can’t now remember what it was.

I’ve googled to no avail.

We are going this afternoon and I’d really appreciate your help!

Thank you😊
