I can’t stand bland cottage cheese. I am trying to up my protein and this would be a quick handy ingredient to add to my healthy eating plan.

What do you add to your cottage cheese to make it palatable please ?

Thumbs up for Longley Farm cottage cheesešŸ‘I’ve seen it in Morrisons as well as some proper green grocers (usually in market towns) their cream and yoghurts are delicious too!

I love it. Eat it with a spoon straight out of the carton.

Otherwise, Marmite is the perfect accompaniment.

Whip it up. A smooth texture is much more appealing.

I have just come out of a cottage cheese phase - glad to have left it behind. One of those things that seemed like a good idea at the time…….

Nansypansy Thu 19-Oct-23 06:36:05

I like cottage cheese with lots of freshly chopped chives and cayenne pepper sprinkled on top…..

Cottage Cheese with good quality ham (chopped up) and a teaspoon of mango chutney - or chopped ham and celery,

I love it with pineapple. I even like cottage cheese sandwiches with a bit of grated cheese added.

Shinamae Wed 18-Oct-23 22:43:27

Yuk! 🤢 nothing could make that substance palatable to me…

Another suggestion:
Cottage cheese
Blueberries
Walnuts.

I process it with a dollop of Greek yogurt, some lemon juice and salt and pepper. Then I mix in chopped apple, celery and walnuts ie a Waldof salad.

Sometimes I make the fat and fluffy American style pancakes with quite a lot of cottage cheese in the batter.

Easy and quick (sweet or savory).

M&S, Lidl- even Tesco and some Polish shops have cottage cheese that is full fat and also OK. It is the full fat that makes it so.
Longley farm is the best of these ordinary ones. Sometimes Waitrose has a good organic full fat one - but less and less these days.

I love cottage cheese and eat it most days at lunch time. (I’m very boring and eat the same lunch most days). I sprinkle it with freshly ground black pepper and eat it with salad and oatcakes. Yummy.

Hi, it has been mentioned on here but I’ll
Just reiterate that Longley Farm ( but not the no fat version) is absolutely delicious, it’s the only cottage cheese I can stomach and no additives whatsoever( lots of the supermarket versions have artificial sweeteners so taste awful). They have three flavours but the plain is lovely- very creamy. Hope you enjoy it

I love cottage cheese with a few whole almonds or cashews and a good sprinkle of cinnamon.

Soroptimum Wed 18-Oct-23 16:21:43

I only eat Longley Farm full fat CC it is available at Morrison’s and Sainsbury’s. I mix it with whole grain mustard, and a chopped boiled egg, delicious! Honestly šŸ˜‚

Thanks sandelf I love Greek Yoghurt and feta and eat it most days. šŸ‘

I love cottage cheese, but only a few brands. Longley Farm is the best - super creamy. It is lovely in a jacket with some spring onions or chives and a good sprinkling of pepper. Also nice with a few prawns on top if I am feeling decadent. smile

Put me in the camp of cottage cheese hater.

My mother used to serve us kids a sweetened version of CC - mixed with chopped maraschino cherries and pineapple. It was… okay. We got it down. I liked he fruit.

A savory version? There are many listed here and none appeal to me. Marmite? What is that? Believe it or not there are Americans who eat CC with ketchup!!! I could gag. Glad I didn’t marry one.

Sounds awful. For over cauliflower etc I melt cottage cheese and add a bit of hard cheese as it's so quick in micro and saves making a sauce ( im not good with flour)

Polly7 Wed 18-Oct-23 14:46:24

I raid the shelf at Aldi of cottage cheese and pineapple. 😃

Stansgran Wed 18-Oct-23 14:37:56

Matzos with good butter ,cucumber pickle and cottage cheese, plenty of salt and pepper.

sandelf Wed 18-Oct-23 14:34:20

Might you enjoy goat cheese or Greek feta, Greek yoghurt? They are all fairly high in protein.

SachaMac Wed 18-Oct-23 14:04:45

I make a Crustless Quiche Slimming World recipe using plain cottage cheese or quark. Beat the cottage cheese into eggs and add your usual ingredients & bake.
I also stir it into prawns add S&P and pile onto a jacket spud. I agree the plain version can be very boring, I prefer the pineapple one.

My husband likes small curd cottage cheese with a chopped hard-boiled egg and pepper. It sounds icky to me. But... I've blended it and got rid of the curds, it became smooth like sour cream and used it as such...topping potatoes, in soups, etc. That may help you. I've also put it in a smoothie with a banana, 1/4 c prune juice, 2 scoops of chocolate/peanut butter flavored protein powder, & 3-4 cubes of ice for him. I tasted & that was good.
