Have you ever overheard a conversation about yourself which has amused, irritated or upset you?
I remember giving blood in my late teens and wearing large floral and fruit earrings. I heard one of the nurses say to the other
“I thought it was Carmen Miranda”😁

At college a tutor talking about me to another tutor ( I was behind the bookshelves) ’. “ Still waters run deep with that one”. He said. I still wonder what he meant

I came from a disadvantaged background and once heard two well off classmates discussing how poor I was. That really upset me.

At my junior school I was a skinny kid. One day walking along the school corridor two boys behind me called “hey - you’ve got two pieces of cotton hanging down from your skirt”.
“Where?” I said, twisting round to find them.
“It’s your legs! Hahaha!”

I was SO shy and embarrassed. That was nearly 60y ago now (!) and I still recall the humiliation. Maybe I need counselling to get over it?

At school aged about 14 Iwas told I had the hairiest legs. I rushed home to shave them. I still do.

When I first met my hubby, we overheard his parents and sister saying they thought I was stuck up!

Umm when I passed my 11+ I heard the form teacher say to my mum “well I didn’t expect that” Nothing like encouragement eh

About age 8 overheard my grandad say to my parents when I sang I sounded like a creaky gate. I’ve never willingly sung anything again but I’m very good at miming!

When I was at uni I heard two of my fellow students talking about me. One said "She always does the bloody reading. Makes it clear shes out for a first". The other replied "Yeah, she scares me."

I found it quite amusing since, unlike them, I had not been handed the chance to go to uni on a plate.

A similar thing happened to me when I got Grade A in my French GCE. My parents met my French teacher in town and she said she was surprised I got the result I did. The teacher was horrible and intimidating so I never put my hand up on class, I was surprised she even knew who I was.

Similar to Bluebelle the French teacher told the class, you won't believe this but she has come first in the exam!
