Good Morning Friday 20th October 2023
(63 Posts)Good Morning Everyone,
Its dark, and appears to have rained in the night here in brackley.
Autumn seems to be slowly happening locally with trees and others yet to shed there leaves .
Went out on the bus yesterday ,and supermarket wise seemed very quite as to customers , mind you Bicester town centre has seen numerous store closures including Banks .
Although a bus pass holder < i go into Bicester on a service which starts before 0930 Monday to Friday bus start , mind you as to this adjoining counties have a 0900 start .
Take Care,
Mick
Good news BaublesSuch a relief for you.
ziplock I too have relatives in Arbroath and Brechin so far they are OK. Im thinking of taichinan hope she is safe
Good morning everyone, it’s a beautiful day here at the moment although still quite windy from hopefully the end of the horrendous conditions yesterday.
I’ve not read further than * Mick* and Ascombe’s posts yet. Such a tragedy for that poor young family.
I’m so late because I’ve been struggling to clear up a bit outside. One of the tables had been blown down a level in the garden to end up upside down under the lemon tree along with a lot of tiny lemons. Fortunately it’s an old one but very useful when it’s clean as I can rest my washing basket on it when I’m hanging clothes out. I’m hoping some washing will dry today as the forecasts are more rain to come.
Thank you all, too many to mention by name, for the support yesterday. It really does help so much, as did the pm from one lovely poster.
Oops, my GP had tried the Epley Manoeuver a few times, without success. She thinks there is something else going on, hence the referral to ENT, as my ear is also painful and has been for months.
One of the rare side effects of Amgevita injections are BPVV, so I am hoping that my rheumatologist and the ENT dept. can come up with a solution.
Patience is a virtue!
Oh Borrheid, I wondered why I hadn't heard from you! I hope you feel the benefit of the op.
Now we need to get your other health issues sorted!
It must be something to do with the red hair that makes us so bolshie independent.
Mamma, I bought the purple coat from Texture. My holiday savings have lain untouched and my excuse is I would have bought similar on my usual October trip to Rome!
Now I just need to be well enough to show it off!
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.....
I am still in my jammies, I just can't find the energy to get dressed. I really must give myself a shake.
Good morning from coastal West Sussex where there is quite a bit of blue sky showing. It was lashing down when we went to bed but stopped during the night. I am thinking of Taichinan who is, I think, at the southern end of the red alert area, and any other grans affected by this extreme weather.
Good to hear the news re Baubles’ DH but sad that they’ve had to deal with a mistaken diagnosis.
Sorry things are no better for Marydoll. Thinking of all with ongoing illness 💐
I’ve been feeling a bit rubbish this week - end of a cold plus, maybe, reaction to Covid booster. Still, I have done some sorting and decluttering in the spare bedroom where a lot of stuff has gathered up. I am trying the Stacey Solomon approach of reducing some categories by 50%. I really need the team of experts to force some decisions.
I have youngest DGD tomorrow afternoon while her mum, sister and auntie go to the cinema for the Taylor Swift concert. Youngest DGD is a non-stop action girl. She rarely sticks with any activity for more than 5 minutes. I am hoping a few weeks at school (which she loves so far) will have improved things 😀
Wishing you all a good weekend.
Prescription apparently was sent direct to the pharmacy, pity no one told me! Anyway MrOops has gone to get it.
I feel your pain MD as a past sufferer of BPPV, although MrOops became very good at the Epley Manouever, when he got that right it was instant relief.
Pleased with other grans good news. Get well soon to others just out of hospital.
Morning all from a damp Kent. I wanted to place on record that I have just had my second breakfast in bed in over thirty one years of marriage! I had a call on Tuesday offering me a cancelled surgery slot for Wednesday at 07:30! I’ve been on waiting list for bilateral oophorectomy ( removal of ovaries) for a year. I was home by 16:30 on Wednesday afternoon. Couldn’t fault the whole team from start to finish - although the consultant anaesthetist didn’t get any prizes for the 11 attempts to insert a cannula! Very little pain, three small plasters on laparoscopic wounds. I had a hysterectomy 39 years ago aged 30 so there was a slight chance of changing to abdominal surgery. The surgeon managed to deal with internal issues without complications. Instructions are to take it easy for a few weeks, fart (!) as much as possible and drink plenty of fluids! Think I can cope with that!
Hope all the other poorlies ( especially my beloved old school friend Marydoll) are improving . Have a good day - I’ve just been offered another cup of tea. I could get used to this! DH has never had to take care of me before, I’m as fiercely independent as Marydoll.! Attached is one of the attempts!
Morning all.
Just had to pop on to also say * Marydoll* on reading your comment:
' reading the Style thread has resulted in me being a naughty girl! 😉 ' ...
I too had a look at the Style thread- which resulted in me joining you in the naughty corner, as I have ordered 2 rather nice looking v neck jumpers from Texture!
MD You should be on commission, as I bet I wasn't the only one who went to have a look at the Style thread
Hope all keep safe in this dreadful weather, sending love to all with worries whatever they might be. x
Good morning all,
A very wet and windy one here today, but no where near as bad as it is for the poor souls in Aberdeenshire. We have relatives who live in Arbroath.
I won’t be venturing out today, but will find plenty to ccupy me indoors.
We have a bit of a mystery - a puddle of water on the floor of the extension part of the kitchen, but the ceiling looks bone dry, so baffled as to where it’s come from. I’ve mopped it up and placed towels and a bucket there. We’ve checked the roof tiles from the window upstairs and they all appear to be where they should be.
💐 for all of you struggling with sorrow and/or illness, but good news about your DH, Baubles - such a relief for you.
Good morning all from wet, miserable, windy Harrogate! But not as bad as some of you are getting. Slept in again this morning, and nothing done yet!
Ash my heart goes out to your family!
Marydoll I would love to hear you are out and about again!
Glad you are not too badly affected*Grandmabatty*. Looking at it on the TV. It’s awful, hope none of our grans are affected like this!! This morning DH and I get our COVID jags. Later DDs are coming round (not sure if GC will be round!)
Have the best day possible folks
Good morning everyone from a very wet Northampton, and more to come during the day. Glad I decided to do my weekly top-up shop yesterday. Met a new member of our walking group at the bus-stop on the way home, so had a pleasant journey chatting.
Dance classes were very focused yesterday, and full-on; I felt quite out of breath after 30 minutes of tap, so was quite pleased to have some gentle slower ballet. I love the Barre exercises. No classes next week as it's half-term, but a few of us have decided to meet for coffee instead.
No plans for today really, except to get a chicken curry in the slow cooker. I also need to open-freeze and then bag the sausages I bought yesterday; there's no way I can eat 1lb in a week! Thought I might make the mince pies for Christmas, but might leave that until a weekend when I am looking for something to do.
Going back now to read all your doings; hope today turns out well for us.
It's pouring down ,and very windy here in West yorks.
Good news Baubles.
Ash there are no words .

Hope all poorlies are improving.

RosiesMaw I’m putting off that particular delight
Good morning Mick and all from windy Lancashire, currently 13°C and raining heavily. I’m hoping my Aberdeen family are safe, will contact them later.
I managed to get on with the laundry yesterday as planned and MrB collected my prescription. He has an appointment with the optician at 10am, the frames he wanted are now in stock so he needs to try them on. I think it will be a quiet day in other than that as it’s not fit to go out. The heating is off as it’s warmer again and my big nightie is back in the cupboard.
That sounds like a good plan for today Grandmabatty after 4 days of childcare.
Congratulations to your granddaughter Cornergran and well done MrC.
That’s wonderful news Baubles, hope your DH continues to improve.
I missed out on a trip to the pharmacy yesterday Marydoll. I usually take the opportunity to nip into the nearby shop but MrB said I’m not yet fit enough. He’s right really.
hollysteers I have had a miserable few months with the hernia playing up. A fellow Gransnetter told me about some simple exercises to do twice a day and I am now on day 4 of no GERD attacks or stomach pain. I will DM you if you’d like details.

It doesn’t seem like 2 years harrigran
As always my thoughts are with those dealing with troubles, may today bring some comfort.
Have a good day all 🌹

I am not meeting my friend today as she has cancelled due to her garden being flooded and worried it may come in the house! She lives in a village in Shropshire and has never known it so bad!
Good morning all - that’s lovely news Baubles -and breathe!
Now I don’t want anybody getting jealous but my activities for today centre round tidying out the cupboard under the sink. (Pause for effect)
Rosie decided to try to carry her breakfast dish out of the utility room (she does this sometimes, takes it to her bed. Bonkers!) and dropped most of the contents on the floor. Hunting for a dustpan and brush I realised my cupboards are a disaster area so that will be me this morning.
I have a proven theory that the number of cleaning products one possesses says more about good intentions than good practice especially where there are several duplicates for the same task, mostly unopened.
So eat your heart out declutterers I may need a lie down afterwards.
With thought especially for Scottish grans on the East coast, may I wish you and us all a peaceful day.
Good news Baubles😃
Thinking of you Harrigran
Good morning from a dark miserable Co Armagh
It’s lovely to see good news 💐
And heartbreaking news from others 🕯️🙏🏼
My visitors are gone , it’s too quiet here now , but my friend is calling for me soon to go to Art Class
I fell asleep yesterday , so it was late to bed , I’m still a bit dazed !
Very best wishes to all 💐💐
No workmen today so a bit of a lie in has been welcome. Need to tackle supermarket as am without bread and nearly out of milk and fresh fruit. Made 10 lbs of mincemeat yesterday so that’s a job which won’t need doing for a couple of years. Just need to organise shelf space in the garage for it.
Glad to read Baubles’ good news and also Cornergran’s, thoughts with all those enduring the storm and its aftermath, and hope we all have a good enough day.
What a relief and such good news baubles.

Good morning. Rain all night here in N. Bucks. Luckily though as usual we seem to miss the worst of storms and other bad weather.
Pleased to hear good news from*Baubles*.
Sorry to hear some of you and
r family members are still feeling so poorly.
Not much planned for today but I fancy doing some baking, maybe a ginger cake or May mix up the Christmas cake. Perhaps some crafting too.
Wishing you all a smile in your day.
Good morning Mick and everyone from grey, rather windy Carlisle. I used to endure these autumnal gales living down on the west coast and don't wish them on anybody.
Yesterday I did go to the U3A talk which was an interesting one by a gent who had led a very full life and turned author and speaker in later life. One book will become a TV drama next year so I shall be looking out for it.
Today, I have some serious admin to contend with and suspect it will involve lengthy form-filling. Then maybe some baking or possibly start the book bought from yesterday's author. What it won't be, is a gardening day.
Good luck with getting those meds sorted Oops, poor service from your surgery.
Best wishes for your DH's swift recovery Baubles, what a relief for you both.
And I hope you and all other poorlies are feeling better today Marydoll. What a horrible complaint that sounds.
Have a good day everyone and I hope none of you are suffering too badly from the storm.
Good morning, Michael and all GNs. The trees are bending here this morning and there’s no let up in the rain, which woke me up at 5.15 hammering to cone in! Yesterday I went over and had a light salady lunch with DD and a couple of hours putting the world to rights and I was supposed to be calling in on my niece on the way home, but started to feel ill in the car so I cried off and came straight home, made a ginger tea to settle my stomach and went to bed. In the evening I was fine, but skipped my evening meal. Just before I went to bed, GS sent me a six page history essay he had written and asked if I would read it. It made a change from Wolf Hall, my current bedtime reading and coincidentally it’s about Henry VIII’s dad. He asked if I could “tidy it up” so that will be one of my wet weather tasks today. Other than needing “tidying up” (it’s a bit rambling) it’s good.
Gas engineer is here giving the boiler its first service.
Ash, what a very sad situation. As you say, no words.
Hope it’s dry for some of you! Have the best day you can.
