Does anyone else follow the Flylady system of House Cleaning?

Does anyone else follow the Flylady system of house cleaning? It's the only thing that got me moving, after ill health. I'd got used to sitting and knitting all day, then I came across the Flylady system (YouTube). She inspired me to get up and do something - and I actually enjoyed myself. It was fun to know that others were following the same system and all doing the same house chores on the same day. It felt like the old days, where we all used to watch the same T.V. channels. There was comfort in it. She has a website, too, which I rarely visit these days (too busy with housework, lol). No, only joking! Apparently, housework is theraputic - according to my lady doctor - who I don't believe does her own grin. She's right though, and I finally got some exercise grin grin

I have a similar regime Dickensalways make my bed, open the windows and wipe the shower after using it
The rest gets done as and when it’s needed
I m another whose never heard of Flylady, sounds like a fishing match

All I’m saying is I bet it doesn’t come up on a men’s forum!

It’s 2023 - why are we women still talking about cleaning?!!

Why should we not talk about it, a fact of life and has to be done irrespective of who does it, employee, husband, self.
We are able to talk about more serious matters as well, one does not preclude the other.

Indeed. and the less time spend on cleaning, the more that is left for doing more interesting things.

Nannina, I don't think anyone needs someone else's regime, but there is nothing wrong with trying it out if they think it might work. Your way works for you, this way obviously works for a lot of people - what's the difference?

I’m up for any shortcuts going. I have better things to do.

Oh, me too.

I don't know this method. I've my own dog driven method. Hoover dog hair daily, bathrooms daily, kitchen daily, laundry often, cleaners weekly.

I've never limited myself to what men may or may not do.

It might not come up on a forum but I do know that MrA and three of his lifelong mates got together a few weeks ago and had a discussion about the best way to clean a large glass shower screen in a new shower room. They also debated the pros and cons of having tiles versus wetwall panels, problems with insuring electric cars, whether to get a Quooker tap, rugby, football and I'm sure a variety of other things.

Yes, same here - when I'm mulling over my last hours on earth, I don't think I'll be wishing I'd spent more time doing housework. grin

Haven't done Flylady but love a cleaning routine! Everything done, no big jobs left to build up eg overdue oven ,grubby skirtings etc. The only way I can get on with doing the things that I love and still have a 'visitor ready home'.
Like Germansheperdsmum I love a shortcutsmile

I remember using it about ten years ago, and I found it very helpful as a discipline at a time when I was coming out of a rotten mental health low.

Gave the book away years ago but still stick to the cleaning of all porcelain and shelves in the bathroom every morning. That may seem a given to some but I've been amazed by those who say they wait until the bathroom looks grubby. I couldn't bear that - not just for myself but sod's law dictates that the day it became sufficiently grubby to clean(ew) would be the day I got unexpected visitors 😳

I try to do bathroom(s) every day so that's my 15 minutes used up!
What about the rest of the house?

I have not used it for a while but Flylady is brilliant. I used to recommend this method to counselling clients when they felt life was spinning out of control on the home front. I have just had a really bad bout of Covid and that has made me realise that it would be good for me to get back into the Flylady method. It also means that once you are doing it properly again , you are never more than 15 minutes from being visitor ready. In recent years my husband has helped out a lot at home and we have a cleaning lady every month or so. We used to have her every week until lock-down but her home responsibilities changed and our financial situation changed so it worked for us all to have her monthly. Consequently I was doing less in the house but more in the garden which I enjoy. But now winter is coming I will do more indoors again.

There's a shop ......
You just knew she'd be flogging stuff you didnt know you needed, just like that other one, Mrs Wotshername.
Oh yes, Mrs Hinch.

Callistemon21 Sat 28-Oct-23 15:53:54

FlyLafpdy recommends 15 minutes of decluttering every day - I'm all for that 😁
But I didn't need her to tell me.

Sorry, sp.

I find the dustiest room in the house seems to be the bathroom.
I’m forever cleaning up dust from the floor.

Germanshepherdsmum Sat 28-Oct-23 16:18:57

Dead skin.

I always seem to be cleaning but m house is always dusty. I’m considering purchasing a air purifier.

When you’re fed up enough you start doing it, little bursts, I don’t need anyone to tell me that.

I’m a follower of the Quentin Crisp housework model…😏
Didn’t do him any harm he died a month before his 91st birthday 😁

As my DM used to say "we eat a peck of dirt before we die"

Mind you, she was always cleaning, everywhere was spick and span; I did not inherit that gene.

I've had a look at the FL page, and it looks interesting. I can't really start yet, as we are preparing the house for decorators, but I might do it after Christmas. Most rooms will be reasonable clean and tidy then anyway, after the Christmas clutter has been cleared away, so it will be more a case of not letting more build up. I like the 15 minute bursts idea - I know I find that 'resetting' the kitchen and sitting room before bed makes a big difference to my mood the next day. That's usually more of a 5 minute than a 15 minute job, but the principle is the same.

Thanks for the tip, Fairycakes

If you read the comments attached to these videos it is a real eye-opener. One young woman apparently never knew she had to clean under the toilet seat as it never gets dirty. The comments are usually more interesting than the videos. Lots of young people living alone for the first time don't seem to have any idea - maybe they had no Mums/Grans to show them. Appliances in particular - one young man didn't know you were supposed to clean a fridge as 'germs don't grow in the cold'.
