I’m a morning lark, not a night owl. I do segmented sleep. Unless I’m socializing I’ve been known to go to bed as early as 6:30-7:00. But usually by 8:00 for sure. I don’t fight it.
I’ll sleep for 3-4 hrs but seem to wake up anywhere from 11:00-1:00 (my witching hour!) and I get up. I don’t fight it. Some nights I make a cup of coffee. I’m awake for 2-3 hrs. I start making notes and plan my day, my week, my life and read a lot. Then I get drowsy again.
Back to bed for another 3-4 hrs. I sleep even more soundly on this 2nd flight. It’s not how long you sleep at a stretch but how many hrs you get during your 24 hrs. I’m up I’m up by 5:00 or 6:00 AM.
I have all my energy in the morning and do my housework, then go out and play.
Cheers!

This is interesting, apparently this pattern is what people used to do naturally centuries ago. You can imagine that they would go to bed when the sun went down, then apparently they woke for a meal in the middle of the night, then slept until dawn.
I think that you are doing the natural thing.
Many people seem to wake in the early hours and lie there thinking for a while and I gather that some recommend that insomniacs get up for a while until they feel like going back to bed.
