Anybody up in this storm

I m lying here listening to the crashes and bangs outside, the lights flashing on and off shining into my window as the trees bend backwards and forwards between me and the security light opposite I’ve just been downstairs to refill my hottie bottle and my poor old conservatory floor is wet all over. I ve got my radio on to try and hide the noise but its not doing much good
I have a Victorian fireplace in my bedroom the trapdoor keeps giving a bang so I ve been and got some string and tied that down but not an ounce of sleep in me

BlueBelle Thu 02-Nov-23 22:56:55

It’s settled down tonight thankfully hope to get a better sleep

I don't know if the forecast changed or we ran ahead of the wind and storm; rain was a problem, there were accidents too (hope no-one was injured) but not as bad travelling as feared.

Spare a thought - and some thanks - to those like my son who is currently up an electricity pole in Cornwall helping to get the power back on

Thank you to your son, eddiecat and all those who keep our essential services going in difficult conditions.

What storm? I'm in the Midlands, and we've got a bit of rain, but no wind

That sounds a bit “I’m all right Jack” !
If you haven’t seen the tv/news images of flooding and the sea crashing over seafronts, trees across roads and services cancelled, where have you been?
West Midlands due to get 40mph + winds around midday/1 pm today .
Get back to us when you know “what storm” people are talking about.

We were in the West Midland at noon - 1pm and there was no wind, just rain, rain, rain.

In fact, having nearly cancelled an essential trip today, we didn't and conditions, although not great, were not as bad as we expected.

Very grateful to all those who keep things running and every one safe in these dreadful conditions.

We recently had our gas meter moved. The two guys who came to do it had been out in 'biblical' rain in the middle of the night to sort a problem but still turned up to move our meter with a smile. We were so grateful to them.

I'm sorry a lot of people are having such a rough time of it. I certainly don't think "I'm alright, Jack" RosiesMaw. I simply wondered why we haven't yet had it here. I don't sit looking at the news much. (other things to do)

HowVeryDareYou2 Thu 02-Nov-23 20:52:48

RosiesMaw No need to be so rude.

I’m East coast Suffolk Monica about 100 yds from the sea a one minute walk
I too have original sash windows Cloughdancer scary isn’t it
The wind and rain have settled to above normal but not major now, I have lost a big trellis pagoda and a ball light on a stand in the garden and the conservatory is leaking otherwise both me and the house are sort of ok
Hope it’s better in the night I had about 2 hours sleep last night

Thankfully it’s finally easing here in CI now heavy rain but winds dropping a little.

Norah Thu 02-Nov-23 13:20:57

It's chilly, rainy, blustery. Lovely day by the fire. I believe my husband is quitting early and sending his helpers home to be with theirs.

Stay warm and safe everyone.

Patsy70 Thu 02-Nov-23 12:18:07

I’m in Kent, bordering London. Managed to take the dogs for their run and avoided the heavy rain. It rained heavily throughout the night, and has been blustery. There have been fallen trees reported in the surrounding area and the roads are flooded in parts. Keep safe everyone. 🤞

I'm in Brighton and now the wind and rain have both died down..

N.Bucks. Rain overnight and a little wind this morning.
This area is lucky in that we most often miss the worst of the weather.
Thinking of those who have the storm. Take care.

Awful.
Gusts are apparently 57 mph
imagine rooves will suffer, and burst rivers

confusedconfused
Why did you say What storm ? If roofs will suffer etc then?

I didnt. I quoted someone else.

I'm in Cornwall near the coast and last night my sash windows were shaking; one of the catches got dislodged, so I couldn't keep the window closed! Spent a while looking up triple glazed windows which I've never considered before as I love my original sash ones, and always feel that the small gaps are good for air circulation!
I think that sadly the storm is coming up to your areas too, so stay safe!

My room is at the back of the house and there are trees but they seem to be safe enough. Rain has been on and off all night. It's very windy and is supposed to get worse later in the day.
My housemate's room is at the front. I wonder if he's been hearing wheelie bins being blown about during the night?
When we first moved in here we had a few very windy times and he kept rushing out to retrieve our bins! 😆😆
Luckily, we have some fabulous neighbours and we all chase bins & put them back in the right places & we look put for each other!
Since then, we've gone down to just one bin - the other one disappeared one fine day - but we've worked out it will fit snugly into our porch area so it doesn't get carried away by the winds!!
Everyone stay safe!

@Aveline,
We'll think of you when Scotland gets snow!

How things be so different just over the border, I was prepared for a restless night, but here in North Lancashire (Pendle witch County) there was nothing. Although it did not forecast over this way. but I think we are such a small island that it is strange how some counties can miss everything whilst others are truly horrific and worrying. Although we did have it a bit rough the other week. Hope it subsides quickly for those that are effected it can be scary.

Sounds awful. You have my sympathy. So far, here in SE Scotland, we're OK but no strangers to storms. Currently it's obviously been a very cold night as all the windows are iced up. ❄️

Whereabouts do you live Bluebelle, just broad region or 'close to sea' will do?

In Berkshire we have had a lots of rain, but the winds have not been too bad

Bridie22 Thu 02-Nov-23 07:10:49

Stay safe Bluebelle, hope it passes soon, its quiet here at the minute, just the usual rain 🌻
