Losing things that are in plain sight !

I do this regularly. Today I lost my mobile phone in the house. I went up and down stairs looking and re looking to see where I had left it. On returning to the bedroom with the bedcovers down there it was in plain sight on the bed.

Has this happened to you ?

It happens here all the time - phone, keys, pen, specs - if I put them down in plain sight on a flat surface, they have the power to go invisible at will.

I do this constantly. In my defence I am visually impaired 😊

Don’t tell me. I get a tin out of the cupboard, get the can opener out, and then can’t find the can I want to open 😂

Golf balls comes to mind. Lost a brand new one today after a brilliant drive into the fairway. Who puts all those leaves there?

DH would pick up my specs from the kitchen worktop and wave them at me whenever he saw me patting my head.

25 Avalon. That made me laugh. It resonated with me. Things like that used not to happen and my sight is ok, so why can’t I see what’s staring at me? 🤔

Couldn’t find my Credit card while out shopping last week (fortunately had another). Frantic search of handbag and purse when I got home, contents tipped out. Nowhere, but found receipt from 3 days previously, the last time I could remember using it. Was halfway though dialling the shop, when I looked again and there it was, right in front of me!

I often "lose" my house keys, panic, and then find them in the pocket of one of my coats.

Even worse this sometimes happens with stock items that customers have bought from one of my shops! When I come to pack them they are nowhere to be found. Usually it means I have gone to pick the order and having done so, put it back into the storage box! On occasions I have ended up quite literally screaming the house down. Fortunately my home ifs detached and I am on the end of a row.

Happens all the time with everything- but I misplace my mobile phone, I use the landline to ring it and it rings somewhere in the house , usually under my bed princess the loo

I’m going to buy a new fancy cover for my phone. What I have is a dark purple and against my dark oak furniture and dark worktops, I often can’t see it and like crazyH I often find it quicker to ring myself from the landline.

Glad to be in good company. I’ve put a couple of strips of bright red insulating tape on my phone case, Georgesgran, may not look pretty but makes my phone much easier to find.

Unfortunately if my brightly coloured phone is set to do not disturb, it won't ring but I was told about an app called find my phone. I logged onto this and my phone rang from the laundry basket!😊
It was such a relief as I had been retracing my steps on a long walk.

But yes I lose things frequently. I no longer carry house keys but have a key pad.

Crochet hooks. More recently, small, sharp scissors for cutting the wool. I gave up, and ordered another, cheap pair from Amazon. As expected, the original pair turned up down the cushion of the chair I'd checked five times. They were points down and have clear plastic handles but still.....

I bought something for the garden for my sisters birthday. I thought I'd put it away in the under bed storage (ottoman) but when the time came to wrap it it was not there. I bought her something else. When it was her husband's birthday I looked again. Still no sign of it anywhere. Yesterday I glanced on top of my wardrobe. There it is, obvious to all. I suppose they'll get it in their Christmas present now if it doesn't disappear again.

Thank you for confirming girls that I am not totally mad 🤪👍

Keep 'losing' the new white milk carton tops on my white worktops!

teabagwoman Fri 10-Nov-23 11:02:22

The white tops on milk containers are a problem for me too. I scribble a bit of marker pen on them. Anything to make life a tad less frustrating. I’ve spent so much time looking for my glasses, in my defence I have limited sight, that I now keep them permanently on me in a lightweight cross body bag that a friend made for me.

My hand tools for the garden are made of wood and a dark metal. I was forever losing them in the borders.
Now I have a ribbon of bright orange tape around each one which makes life much easier - or did until the Autumn leaves came down! I'm thinking of changing it to neon pink.

I was bought a bright red one because I was always doing it.
The frames of my glasses are pale grey I put them down but can't find them . I'm long-sighted and everything in front of me is a blur.
The worst lately with all the Christmas catalogues etc. I sort the main post from the others and tell DH what has arrived. We can't find them and lately, they have been in the recycling and the rubbish ones where the post should be.

I am currently searching for a birthday card I bought weeks ago as it was so perfect for DS2. His birthday is next week and the present is wrapped but I can't find the flipping card anywhere. I know as soon as I write another one it will turn up.
I am also looking for a black folder with some songs in it. I haven't seen it for a few months but it must be here somewhere and I intend singing a miserable folk song or two in the pub tomorrow evening. I can reprint the words as I have them on the computer but I would like to know where that folder is.
