Nits!!

A trick we used to use when I was teaching was to buy the cheapest bottle of supermarket own brand hair conditioner, cover the hair in it and comb through with a nit comb. The eggs stick to it. It worked every time on my daughter, who had luxurious, thick long hair.

At one time the advice was use hair conditioner in preference to chemicals but it may have changed again.

Nit combs never got nits out in my experience, only the actual lice. But if you do it daily for a couple of weeks you'll have got rid good and proper.

Even used to do it on dry hair with Minibaggs (another long, thick and luxurious head of hair!). It really wasn't a big deal.

She generally wanted to keep some of the beasties as pets 😂

Nit-combing regularly also breaks the legs of any lice it didn't rake out and that, we were told, could prevent them laying eggs.

I always remember the ignominy of a friend asking me to go to the Chemist with her. Both probationary teachers we were confronted by a girl assistant who had been at school until sixth form with us. My friend asked for nit lotion. You could see the look on her face"How are the mighty fallen".
We exited to a cackle of nasty laughing and a 'See you soon."
When I worked in N/C Nitty Nora gave the staff a tube of cream to take home with them.
Then I got told the flees jump to clean hair, and when my children caught them, we laughed it off. I did always warn the hairdressers there might be lurkers.

My colleagues and I used to check each other's hair. They were rife in my school.

Lashings of conditioner! My DDs’ hair was beautifully luxuriant when they had nits, due to copious amounts or conditioner.

Thankfully, they only had nits once, when the older one was a teenager. She didn’t mention that she was itching and she had a whole universe living in her hair by the time I discovered them. 😱 Dd2 also had them so I started my campaign against nits with whatever the shampoo is and then did nightly/every two nights combines.

They both had waist-length hair so it was a mission, and even more so when I found I also had nits!!! Gah! Nit World was defeated eventually, though.

We used to get nits home every August when school re-started after the summer holidays... EVERY year!
All problems stopped when kids went to secondary school.. my theory was that the kids started washing their own hair... perhaps more regularly in some cases!

You try having mixed race children 🤣🤣

I second the cheap conditioner method, then use tea tree shampoo, conditioner and spray to deter them returning.
