All my white undies now a hue of grey!!!🙈
Any ideas how to bring them back to white??

I don't have bleach or ever wash hotter than 30degrees. I am doomed to have grey undies but am smug from not damaging the planet.

Sunlight is supposed to be the best bleach but we don't have too much of that in Scotland. ☹️

I'm glad you had your holiday and your refund SueDonim

I'v e now taken to buying 'nude' bras, the colour lasts better than whitened doesn't show under tee shirts etc.

Not until the next year, Grammaretto. I recall being in A&E, high on morphine, and repeatedly asking the medics if I’d be allowed on a plane with my leg in plaster the next day! The answer was no, I was going to spend ten days in hospital, instead.

The travel insurance paid up every last penny, even the boarding kennel fees for our cat, so we were able to rebook the same holiday. smile

Put an eggcup full of bleach in your white wash .

You poor thing SueDonim talk about adding insult to injury. Did you ever get to the Carribbean?

ixion

But what if you were run over by a bus, Grammaretto? 😳

Fortunately, I wasn’t run over by a bus but I did fall and break my leg in two places a few years ago. It was the day before we were going on a Caribbean holiday and I had tatty old undies on, as my nice things were packed, ready to go away.

The shame of having my greying, shabby knickers cut off me in A&E! blush They assured me they’d seen worse. grin

You could try good old Napisan, works for me. Got my last pack from Morrisons in the children's wear section.

SallyatBaytree Mon 27-Nov-23 16:20:02

Same for me -wearing black or colours , never white! with exception of hot holidays when I need a white bra under Tees. However you can buy very inexpensive underwear these days, so why not have a revamp and get rid of old grey things?! Is it worth going to the trouble and expense of dyeing\\\

Scotgirlnick Mon 27-Nov-23 16:08:08

My bra straps have a tendency to show at the neckline and I say I'm wearing my dove grey today

I spent a lot of my working life in Operating Theatre Changing rooms, some were mixed sex, so from an early age always I always wore Black, it always looked pristine. So I’ve never feared being run over by a bus. Nothing white ever goes in my machine .

Not going to help now however I chuck a dr. beckman colour saver in my washer every time now ( a reusable one) amazing things!

Fae1 Mon 27-Nov-23 15:06:02

If you were run over by a bus your underwear would hardly remain grey!!

pce612 Mon 27-Nov-23 15:05:00

Do a pre wash with Ace laundry bleach, works for me to brighten up dingy looking whites.

Grammaretto Mon 27-Nov-23 14:21:34

Alright then. On days when I'm likely to be run over by a bus ixion I shall wear my black undies. grin

PamQS Mon 27-Nov-23 14:14:54

It’s years since this happened to me! I remember the classic ‘red sock dying the wash pink’ when my sons were babies.

No idea how to restore grey undies, I’m afraid. I just tend to wear what I’ve got till they wear out!

Gwyllt Sun 26-Nov-23 17:47:37

So long as they are clean why worry unless you are out to impress

midgey Sun 26-Nov-23 16:58:49

That’s why they are called “grundies”! Grey undies.

downtoearth Sun 26-Nov-23 14:01:52

If I was run over by a bus my underwear may have been pristine to start with, but wouldnt stay that way....smell the fear.

Well, you’d probably be past caring as they cut off your grey knickers!

Doodledog Sun 26-Nov-23 11:58:47

If you can get hold of Dylon Colour run, I find it a lot better than Dr Beckmann. Alternatively, Glo White (meant for net curtains, I think) can restore whites, and when you have got rid of the rogue dye, a bit of peroxide in the next wash will brighten them. The best bets for sourcing these things are probably Home Bargains and Amazon, depending on whether you prefer to shop in person or online.

Good luck!

Grammaretto Sun 26-Nov-23 11:41:33

I just wear grey undies ☹️

Georgesgran Sun 26-Nov-23 11:36:12

For a couple of pounds, it might be worth giving one of Dr Beckmann’s products a go.
However, from past experience the results might be a bit iffy, so I’d think about dyeing them too.

GrannyGravy13 Sun 26-Nov-23 11:27:57

I would dye them a pretty colour, even vanish struggles on underwear due to the nylon/elastic/man made fibres.
