Please tell me to calm down!

This is something that's really making me furious.
I live on a lane which is a favourite dog-walker's route. Some go out early for their dogs to do their business.
Every week, I put one or other of my dustbins out at the side of the lane. Dustbins are emptied early, at about 7 am.
Unless I fetch the bin back into my garden straight away (and why should an elderly widow have to get up at that hour?) there is almost always a packet of dog poo at the bottom of the bin, which will be there for the next fortnight.
I HATE IT and I'm starting to hate all dogs and their owners. I'm feeling cross right now, and every time I see my otherwise clean bins.

I can’t see any difference between dog poo bags and soiled disposable nappies, incontinence pads or sanitary towels?🤔 At least they’re in the bin and not left lying around.

queenofsaanich69 Mon 27-Nov-23 15:58:07

We have the same problem,so the bag is in the bin for 2 weeks,
am trying note on bin !

Pammie1 Mon 27-Nov-23 15:40:27

Note on the bin. ‘CCTV. You are being watched. Please do not dump dog poo bags in my bin or I will report you and provide footage to the council’.

If you are elderly and have a health condition you could apply to the council for an assisted collection - this means that they would take your bins from wherever you store them, empty them and put them back where they got them.

Shazmo24 Mon 27-Nov-23 15:36:55

Sorry but life is far too short to worry about a poo bag in a bin....surely has to be better than just leaving it out on the lane and bins aren't hygenic anyway

Esmay Mon 27-Nov-23 15:19:49

Another irritating habit from some dog owners :
dumping poo bags in your skip .

BlueBelle Mon 27-Nov-23 15:19:08

Are you quite sure it's not cat poo
Stewpot not many people take their cats out for a walk and bag up their poo. they just do it all over the place never seen a cat on a lead yet ( someone will prove me wrong) Why should the poster buy and provide poo bags for dogs that ll just encourage more dumping ( excuse the pun) in her bin

If you had CCTV on your premises, could it potentially monitor the bin.

I am not talking about actually getting CCTV, but if you could put a note on the bin telling them not to chuck dog shit in , followed by a statement saying CCTV is being installed. That might work.

This worked for us. Some low life used to throw a poo bag over our hedge so we put up a notice that we had installed CCTV (we didn’t!) and would be sending the footage to the police. The problem stopped 😜

Stewpot100 Mon 27-Nov-23 15:07:40

Are you quite sure it's not cat poo? If not, yes, why should you have to bring the bin in at that unearthly hour. Have you thought about a Ring doorbell? It would hopefully capture the culprit so you at least know who the dog and owner are every time. Failing that a notice, and an anti dog spray on the bin (if there is such a thing). Another thought, leave a few spare doggy bags nearby with a notice to help themselves should their dog poop.

Mallin Mon 27-Nov-23 14:58:03

Why is it YOUR bin the phantom poop depositor uses?

StephLP Mon 27-Nov-23 14:50:27

Romola - you say that you are elderly and in my area if those 'not so young' contact our local council then the bins are collected from wherever they are stored and returned to the same place. We do not have to drag our bins to the end of the drive then return them later. It is worth looking into. Hopefully if the bin is taken back down the drive then the dog walker responsible won't wander down you driveway to use your bin!

JPB123 Mon 27-Nov-23 14:39:52

My bins are put out the evening before the bins are emptied
and the bin men come at about 8 am ……..very often someone has popped their dog’s poo bag in the top of my bin! It makes me furious too. What is wrong with these people? There is a dog poo bin a few yards away.

MaggsMcG Mon 27-Nov-23 14:39:42

A lot of councils, including mine, have removed the dog bins and told people to put the bags in then general waste bins as long as its bagged. Not even twice. I haven't seen anything from our Refuse people asking for it to be double bagged but I do double bag my cats litter etc. just for their safety sake. I would much rather find another way of disposing of it but there isn't one as far as I can find out. I wont get rid of my cat she's company. So is my grand dog that I occasionally look after. Its not the animals fault its the owners.

Cagsy Mon 27-Nov-23 14:35:48

If you try and lock or wire the bin it probably wouldn't get emptied I guess. We do walk our son's dog sometimes but always take the offending bag home.

deaneke Mon 27-Nov-23 14:34:29

I live down a lane too! It’s public access only.At least they pick it up!

I asked the council to put a bin on the public side which they did.
Isn’t it strange how angry dog owners get when you challenge them.

henetha Mon 27-Nov-23 14:30:13

That is very annoying.. I woud be too.
A strong note left on the bin might work hopefully.
Ye it's good that they pick up but absolutely wrong to chuck it in your bin. Good luck.

albertina Mon 27-Nov-23 14:28:56

I must apologise for these thoughtless people. I own a dog and would never dream of doing that.

A note on the bin might help, but I wonder if your local council could put a poo bin somewhere near you ( but not too near) the dog walkers might get the hint properly.

Good luck.

mousemac Mon 27-Nov-23 14:27:42

Since you asked to be told.

Calm down.

Be glad the dog-walker took the trouble to pick up their dog's doings and bin them.

Jaxie Mon 27-Nov-23 14:21:14

You have all my sympathy. I live on a dog walkers’ route and it’s the actual dog shit on my steps or on the lane just left. I got so incensed I drew round the deposits in chalk ( what a good idea to use spray paint in future) and left a waterproof notice saying” Clean up your dog’s shit”. Some acquaintances were shocked by my language, but little kids in their dozens walk to the beach every day along this lane. Why should they be put at the risk of toxocariasis by people who think dogs are more important than humans?

puffernutter Mon 27-Nov-23 14:13:41

Looking at the legal side of this - it is a very grey area. If the bin is not on your property, then it is not trespassing, it may be considered "fly tipping" - the term is "Bin stuffing" if you want to google it!

BazingaGranny Mon 27-Nov-23 14:03:28

I can totally understand why you are frustrated, I can’t imagine that anyone wants dog poop in a bag in their dust bin.

But please dont think badly of all dog owners. We have a dog and wouldn’t dream of putting the poop, double wrapped or otherwise, in a bin, or left hanging from a tree or similar.

In the same way that there is a small percentage of ALL groups of people who are entitled, eg some car drivers, joggers, cyclists, people with buggies, dog owners or walkers, and sadly the rest of us all suffer by association.

BUT it seems to me that there are far fewer designated dog poop bins around now. I’ve sometimes needed to double or treble wrap our dogs poop and put it in a special waterproof side pocket of my ‘doggy’ bag and take it home to throw in our dustbin. Our dog is an absolute joy, but sometimes I really wish he could learn to use a proper loo. I’ve seen videos of cats using loos, but never a dog!

Do hope that you get a good resolution to your problem. 🌺

My dad was obsessed with people bringing dogs to ‘do their business’ along the road at the back of his row of houses. He once wrapped up the offending poo in newspaper and ran after to dog owner to give it to her.

‘Oh’, she said, looking quite pleased, ‘what is it?’

‘It’s your dog’s s**t, put it outside your own house!

She probably never came back again!

Annierob Mon 27-Nov-23 13:46:03

This happened yo my bin too so I moved the bin closer to the house near the cctv camera.

Buttonjugs Mon 27-Nov-23 13:38:56

I bought a sticker from Amazon and stuck it on the lid. It hasn’t happened since.

Grandmabatty Mon 27-Nov-23 10:06:13

The master key is for the householder to use, to put rubbish in. The bin opens automatically when it's upended

Chestnut Mon 27-Nov-23 09:41:44

Tizliz

They have master keys

I find that a bit strange. The bin men here work very quickly and I doubt they would want to waste time unlocking bins. I think I'd have to speak to them first, before ordering such an expensive bin lock.
