Please tell me to calm down!

This is something that's really making me furious.
I live on a lane which is a favourite dog-walker's route. Some go out early for their dogs to do their business.
Every week, I put one or other of my dustbins out at the side of the lane. Dustbins are emptied early, at about 7 am.
Unless I fetch the bin back into my garden straight away (and why should an elderly widow have to get up at that hour?) there is almost always a packet of dog poo at the bottom of the bin, which will be there for the next fortnight.
I HATE IT and I'm starting to hate all dogs and their owners. I'm feeling cross right now, and every time I see my otherwise clean bins.

*OldFrill*, we feed our animals BARF and their excrement may not smell like roses but hardly smells at compared to processed dog/cat food. There's less of it too! Just an ordinary bag hides the smell.

Thanks for the info smile

I have always used scented nappy sacks as poo bags for my little doggy, they are really cheap nowadays from any supermarket. Would also never dream of putting any of my doggy bags in anyone's bin, other than my own, of course.

My dog must have exceptional pong factor as scented bags don't hide the smell.

Get a life ! There are two serious wars going on in the world at the moment and you're worried about a bit of dog poo !!!

Whilst I appreciate the sentiment, that was a bit of a rude way of putting it especially as the OP stated she had calmed down.

I've used various bags, it immediately stinks and that stink develops as time goes on. Could be because l use supposedly biodegradable bags. My bins are close to my neighbour's door and I don't want to open a stinking bin and have that stink waft into here home.

I remember my dear Dad following someone home with “their” poo and depositing it on their front lawn. It never happened again. Just saying…

I sort of have a similar problem. If my waste bin is not crammed full to the top, a neighbour goes round all the bins to see if she can cram her extra rubbish in someone else's bin, Unfortunately it is the bedding and poo of some kind of animal be it rat, guinea pig or similar. It stinks because some of it is not bagged so you get soiled and damp straw stuck to the bin after it has been emptied. it's disgusting.

Does it really matter!!
It’s in a bag so not smelly. Just be thankful it’s not unwrapped and left on your path. It’s in a sealed bag. Just live and relax in bed. Why are you so agitated it’s only a bag in the bin.

It’s their dog’s poo though, they need to put it in their own bin.

That’s the difference.

You could approach your local council and try asking them to place one of the dog waste bins close by which I believe are emptied weekly it could end the problem of the poo finding its way into your bin.

I confess I have occasionally put a bag of doggy poo in someone’s bin but only if that bin already has rubbish in it and is waiting collection. To put it in a newly emptied bin is just plain rude and I wouldn’t dream of doing it. Not sure how you stop this Romola as you would have to wait until the bin is empty then rush out to bring it in which is not on. A sign by the bin may be the best you can do. Or one taped inside the lid. Either that or lie in wait with a shotgun and shoot the blighters.

If no one else lives with you who could put your bin out and push it back in, you could be entitled to have it collected and returned by the crew who empty it. Certainly Northumberland operate this scheme for older people and others who can't manage it. I know you can manage it, Romola but it would solve your problem if you "couldn't" .

Worse when it’s dumped in recycling bin. Then I have to fish it out! Don’t mind in general waste, though. Better than left on pavement or on a tree 😳

Copes283 Mon 27-Nov-23 20:20:26

OP - how about getting the bins put inside your gate/boundary? Of course I don't know your age, but I know our bin operatives will do this under special circumstances! Age and disability are the usual special circumstances, but if you play on their sympathy eg "I wonder if you would be able to help me with this problem I have been having....." I'd make full use of the OAP card if I were you!!! Good luck!smileshamrock

I’m a lifelong dog owner - We would never do this x It would annoy me, other suggestions are great, mine is to try and stop getting so upset, it’s not good for you x

Ask your local Council to put up a public waste bin. Some have bins specifically for dog waste. Or put a sticker on your bin, advising it is not for public use.

BlueBelle

*Are you quite sure it's not cat poo*
Stewpot not many people take their cats out for a walk and bag up their poo. they just do it all over the place never seen a cat on a lead yet ( someone will prove me wrong) Why should the poster buy and provide poo bags for dogs that ll just encourage more dumping ( excuse the pun) in her bin

I misunderstood. I thought 'a packet' was a large dump - without the doggy bag? grin And yes, I have seen a cat being walked on a lead grin Either way, bagged or not, it's a cheek!

Caleo Mon 27-Nov-23 17:58:20

I recommend a short message taped to your bin in Anglo Saxon terminology

Rainnsnow Mon 27-Nov-23 17:42:32

It’s the lingering smell, not nice if u are not the dog’s owners. I use the extra long bin bags that cover all the bin . At least that way u don’t have to put up with the offensive article for long. We have neighbours her who wait until all bins are out then cram all their extra stuff into them. Dh tactical and waits until they have finished.

ileea Mon 27-Nov-23 17:23:34

It happens often where I live. I'd sooner did that than just leave the 💩 bag on the sidewalk or, worse, not picking up at all.
A house on one of our streets actually has a sign next to one of their bins that says 💩 bags here only.

OldFrill Mon 27-Nov-23 17:16:33

No matter what dog pooh bags l use it stinks. Maybe that's just my dog and others smell of roses. Anyway l don't put it in my bin let alone someone else's.

I can’t see any difference between dog poo bags and soiled disposable nappies, incontinence pads or sanitary towels?🤔 At least they’re in the bin and not left lying around.

Ours are all supposed to be blackbagged, not just stuck in the bin. Would you stick nappies straight in the bin? And definitely not in the recycling bin.
