Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently -2° and snowy. Happy anniversary Alygran.
Yesterday was my village's Christmas tree light on. There were stalls, etc and a brass band as well as other Christmas music. It was very busy and the tree is lovely.
I woke up in the night to snow falling. It's a couple of inches at least and looks as if it'll be on for a while. My plans have been cancelled. I should have been meeting a pal for breakfast but I'm not driving in snow of I can avoid it. So a chicken to roast, Christmas cards to write and presents to wrap will be the order of the day.

Oh I wish, Mick! Roll on Spring! Although the 'permafrost' is looking very pretty here on the Angus coast. It was -3° during the night and Jack Frost has been painting icy pictures in the outside of the north-facing windows.
Safe journey to Wales today RoseandLilac, and safe journeys to everyone out and about.
Yesterday I had what I call a 'scattered' day and couldn't pin myself down to achieve anything. I'd start to do something then remember something else I should be doing and go and start that, before thinking of something else etc etc etc. I achieved the sum total of a pot of soup!
So today I am disregarding all duty and meeting up with a friend for lunch at The Scottish Antique Centre. I was going to say appropriately enough - and it is for me! - but my friend is only 60 and young enough to be my daughter, so I won't say it😉. Anyway it will be a good natter, a lovely lunch and another opportunity for some Christmas shopping in the modern part of the shop, which usually has some unusual stock. Then home before dark for Strictly and a bowl of soup.

Good morning from my bit of very cold South Lanarkshire.

Mick, no bank at awful in a good size town, that will be really difficult for many people.

I enjoyed my day at home yesterday and did get a few tasks completed but off out again today for lunch at our local golf club with three former colleagues. The food there is good and the view over the course and our small local loch is really lovely.

I’ll need to walk there because I can’t manage the drive over the snow and ice in our estate and I’m not really looking forward to that but I have metal attachments for my boots so best foot forward and not upward I hope!

Good morning all from a snowy Glasgow. That was a shock, I thought we had missed it. It is DIL's birthday and I hope I can get up with her flowers or I shall just have to keep them! 😉

GM, we have had no heating in our church for six weeks. The part has to come from Germany. I think someone is walking with it. Sometimes I am so cold, I feel ill, so I can sympathise.

After a ropey start but I was determined to go out, we had a lovely day with DD and SIL.
To save me walking, we took a circuitous route by bus and train. Instead of going home, DD persuaded us to come back on a different train route and join them in their village pub. This was way out my comfort zone, as I go rarely go anywhere!
You know that scene in cowboy films, where strangers walk into a saloon and everyone turns and stares at them? 😂 In fact, once they recognised SIL, they were very welcoming.

DH is an awkward so and so, ( isn't keen on taxis), so we got a bus home, from right outside the door,
The driver asked us if we were going to a certain pub, because his route was different from the usual one and he would be turning off the main road.
I said that were actually going his way, but it was a pity there were no bus stops. ( It's a long, country road,)
Just tell me where you live and I will drop you off, he said.
What a kind young man, especially as I was struggling.
Today, I am fit for nothing! My joints are so painful, due to the cold an unaccustomed exercise. I got a shock, when I looked at my Fitbit!

Good morning from North Yorkshire. It’s -5 according to Alexa. 45 years ago it was almost as cold on my wedding day. It started to snow as I arrived at the church.
I had promised myself a run out in the car up in the dale or a trip into York on the train but as it’s so cold I think I will look for something nearer home to keep me busy!

No real plans today, just go with the flow. Housework probably, I do it once a week whether it needs it or not

Lovely that you and kitty had a meet up NanKate. I remember going to a meet in I think Market Drayton? where I met you Kitty amongst others. I am thinking of organising a meet in Birmingham in the new year. There used to be quite a crowd. Last one I went to (before Covid) there was just the two of us.

Anyhoooo....just a thought.

Good morning, Michael and all GNs from South Yorkshire where there is a very hard frost this morning. It’s going to be a bright day and I’m contemplating whether to go into town, knowing it could be very busy today, but from tomorrow the weather breaks down - rain and snow. Decisions decisions. Yesterday I spent an hour playing Christmas tunes on my piano. Just an aberration - it’ll pass😁!!

Good morning from a frosty and still Suffolk.

We now have heating and we’re so impressed with the 2 young men who fitted our new oil tank yesterday. They were pleasant,helpful and efficient and did the job in under 2 hours when we had thought it might take most of the day. This included testing the system,having emptied the oil remaining in the old tank into a reserve tank and then putting it back into the new one and fitting a monitor in the hall which gives an accurate reading of the oil level in the tank.

How hardy some of these youngsters are! When DH went to take them a cup of tea, the one wearing shorts(!) was kneeling on the frozen grass to check something.

Apart from a dog walk,I don’t think we will leave the house today but enjoy its warmth and look forward to the delayed oil delivery on Monday.

I hope that others can enjoy the comfort of a warm and cosy home always remembering those with worries about themselves or family or friends and those less fortunate in these bitterly cold days.

Today I’m going to London with my two old school pals. We are visiting the Dennis Severs House/Museum for a Silent Tour 😳. Liberty went there last week and enjoyed the experience so we’re looking forward to it. It’s in Spitalfields, so we will have a mooch around the market and then have lunch.

Dh will take little pooch for her re-scheduled grooming. It was cancelled on Thursday because all their pipes had frozen. Hope it’s ok today.

Good morning from a chilly W Kent. Very pleased with my new glasses,they are lightweight compared to the old ones but much better with the hearing aids. Yesterday’s other shopping went well and DD has ordered the turkey.

Good morning Mick and everyone from a very frosty Carlisle. It was -5°C here at bedtime last night but 'warmed up' a little during the night and is now a toasty -2°C! I can see dark clouds approaching so I suspect snow may be imminent. Just as I was thinking of strolling to the convenience store for a newspaper....
As for the rest of the day, a little housework, a bit of admin and necessary online shopping and then back to the puzzle of setting up the new hifi. It's probably stimulating for my aging brain circuits...
A long phone chat with my sister is also due, we set the world to rights once a week.

Sorted some Christmas decorations yesterday, hope to do a pre-installation clean in one room today. Today is testing day, 🤞 for a negative result and some energy. It would also be good to reclaim my head although I am assured by one son that heads are optional.

Good morning from a slippery s somerset, I have a shiny patio, it is very slippy and cold, with fog. Maybe some sun this afternoon

An indoors day for me, I went out yesterday at 0 degrees but the cold air was not comfortable. I came back with a few portions of delicious fresh fish and I mean fresh. I had the stove on for much of the day, smokeless ovals and they don`t burn as hot as logs but the burn lasts a long time and is nice and even. I have cleaned the ash already but won`t light it today. I want to conserve fuel for after the winter solstice

I will be working slowly on making a lovely skirt with a fitted elastic-back waistband plus the usual daily jobs with knitting and reading thrown into the mix

We are staying at DD2s tonight to babysit DGS2(8) and DGD (4 months) while parents are at a 40th birthday party. They don't often go out without the kids so it's a new experience for us.

I had a great catchup with the lovely NanKate yesterday. It was as though we had only seen each other last week instead of before the lockdowns.

Today, we have a street matket and Christmas light switch on in the village. Our choir is also singing. Before that, I am hoping to refine the dining table whi h is currently covered in parcels and present shopping.

Yesterday was farm shop, including veg for a friend who can’t drive for now, lending a Christmas jumper to my son’s partner and an evening visit to our local. The decorations in the village are all up and lit including a beautiful tree.
Newspaper today, what will be a tedious call to the bank and a walk when the ice has disappeared.

The DGSs are off for their swimming lessons first thing and then I think we’re all getting busy putting up the tree and decorations. DD and Sil are off out this evening so it’ll be a film night for us and the DGSs
I love having lots of fairy lights up too Kalu they look so lovely this time of year but I know what you mean about all the batteries

A busy morning.H is Father Christmas in the nursery concert and M has sewing club at the same time but 15 miles away🤯DH will take H to his concert and hopefully meet SIL there if milking is finished.I will walk into town with M.DD is working at a university open day.Hoping H and DH will be back in time for the Christmas parade, entertainment and street market.

DD will have a meal ready for us later then home to collapse!

Good morning from a snow covered -2 in Glasgow.🥶 I wish it was March Mick and we were nearing spring.

Any activity today will be indoors, possibly a check on how many batteries are needed for my collection of fairy lights which I have become obsessed with indoors and especially the back garden which only we can see, don’t want to frighten the horses. Speaking of horses, GD2 has invited me to a gymkhana she is taking part in tomorrow, heavy duty thermals will be needed!

Good morning from Cornwall where it's dry, dark, quiet and probably cold though I haven't emerged yet to find out. The photo is my son's car; he only lives four miles away but it may as well be a different weather zone!

Yesterday our town's Christmas lights were switched on so I have the prettiest strings of twinkling blue and white right outside my window, level with me because I'm in a first floor flat.

Today my son's little town have a lovely event for their Christmas lights switch-on, which I'll go to. Lots of music, a parade and then cake and coffee in the community hall, yum.

My new brace is extremely teeth-gritting but I was told I'd have to 'break it in'. Ended up hobbling home yesterday carrying it in a bag, having noisily unvelcroed it in a café! 😄😂
