My Apologies For This Little Rant!

Those inconsiderate men blocking the pavement would most likely have moved if you had asked (smiling sweetly!) if they would mind letting you get past. I'd have had no compunction in asking.

Rant accepted too, although I would have said something too in days gone by - I don't go out anymore as too scared.

I have a similar rant - I have a double drive, but only one dropped kerb, so I can't claim it exactly, but there's a family opposite that have 2 flat bed trucks and a huge car with an even larger trailer. They always park over my drive - but the last few days the truck has had a stainless steel pole sticking out of the back, and the first day I pulled in (I always park on that side because there's a strip of grass that others drive over, and I don't!) I swing in and straighten up avoiding the grass. I didn't know the pole was there, and when I swung in I saw that it was inches away from my windscreen! Then last night, it was the large car and trailer - so large that actually it was covering part of my dropped kerb. It is seriously p***ing me off, as it's rude! They could put their trucks on their drive and also on their side of the road ... grr! I was taking pictures last night though and saw what was in the trailer - LOADS of beautiful holly absolutely covered in berries, so I nicked some!

I get very loudly beeped at by some twit in a passing car...the SAME car that did it to me a couple of weeks ago .. to get out of the way

1) he won’t have known he “beeped” at you 2 weeks ago.
(Are you sure it was the same driver?)
2) do you make a habit of stepping out into the road? A warning “ beep” is just that - not a “ Get out of the way, but a “Look out, be careful!”

It’s not always necessary to say anything in those circumstances.
I have stood my ground for a few seconds until someone realises they are blocking my way. There is invariably an apology.

I also stand my ground when faced with an oncoming zombie staring intently into his or her phone!

I wonder if, over many many centuries, the posture of humans will revert back to that of our ape ancestors ?

The driver who beeped you didn't know why you stepped into the road. He reacted instinctively.

I would've asked the two men to move out of the way - or poked them with my walking stick.

Hear, hear.
No point in being a doormat then moaning about it afterwards.
A sweet “Excuse me” is all it needs.

Same here, definitely giving them one of my looks as well.

M0nica Wed 06-Dec-23 12:16:56

Yup, Juggernaut, exactly what i would do.

Germanshepherdsmum Wed 06-Dec-23 11:26:26

Exactly Juggernaut.

Juggernaut Wed 06-Dec-23 11:24:34

Oh for the love of……….
Whatever happened to using your very best loud and imperious voice to say "Excuse me gentlemen, I need to walk through here"?
I will not, under any circumstances, walk in the road because a car is on the pavement, or if men are standing chatting and blocking the path either!
Don't put yourself in danger, assert yourself!

AGAA4 Wed 06-Dec-23 11:11:48

I understand how annoying that was. You shouldn't have to walk into the road because a car was parked on the pavement. Pavements are for pedestrians not cars. The two men blocking the accessible part should have moved when they saw you coming. Was one of them the owner of the car I wonder?

Grannybags Wed 06-Dec-23 10:50:40

Rant accepted!

I would have asked the men on the pavement to let me through. People are so thoughtless

Spuddy Wed 06-Dec-23 10:48:09

When I'm on the left-side pavement and there's a car parked 3/4 on the pavement next to the shops and 2 men stood talking on the side of the passenger side blocking the bit of pavement so I go into the road to get past the car to then get back onto the pavement in front of the car and I get very loudly beeped at by some twit in a passing car...the SAME car that did it to me a couple of weeks ago .. to get out of the way.

Listen here, idiot ... you've got 4 stupidly fast wheels, I've only got 2 slow physically disabled legs so you'll just have to wait a few seconds, scumbag!

Rant over,
thank you!
