Anyone else listening to the Gospel Messiah (R3)

I think yours must have been the traditional Messiah,, Nanna8, and sounds wonderful.
This version comes from New York and is Handel, reset and embellished as American negro gospel music. A different but also joyful experience. I’m not familiar enough with gospel music and found it a slight endurance test, despite sashaying around the kitchen with the cheese at one point. The aria that worked best for me was O thou that tallest good tidings’.

I listened to the one from Sydney opera house last night. Absolute magic. It is on YouTube. Such wonderful singers. Apparently it used to be more of an Easter thing than a Christmas one but the Victorians changed that. What a brilliant composer Handel was and obviously God was with him when he wrote that.

We caught the end, It sounds fabulous. No wonder people were standing up, dancing. I will listen to it tomorrow on BBC Sounds
