loads of Star Wars characters and spaceships.. lego of course
I want to declutter, partner does not want to?
With 6 GC we now have quite a collection of things I like - cute Sylvanians, a dolls house built by my DH and decorated ( i.e.played with) by me, I also have some Sasha dolls from the 80s which I always wanted to buy for my DD but were too expensive then. My OH has quite a toy car and boat collection which the GC can play with, but he likes to display. I know some people think men with train sets or women with dollys are a bit dotty, but surely it’s nice to be reminded of some things from childhood ( either our own or our DCs) ?

Mollygo I still have most of mine and also loved it a lot. - My 5 children enjoyed it too but I'm afraid some pieces are lost now. I saved ip for things for my garden and populated it with families of rabbits (as that is what i knew of my real garden, next to woodlands).
I had a pond in my Britains garden which seemed special with its shiny perspex coating - and a greenhouse with seedling trays.
The whole thing makes me think of how comfortable and safe my childhood was and how lucky I was to grow up in a rural area with big garden - and most of all with kind and loving parents.
My old stables is looking a bit the worse for wear though - but it is still functional.
Happy days.
I rarely get the garden out now - the grandchild who loves it best is usually here with her 3 year old sister who is not so gentle yet!
What a fun thread, CoolCoco, thanks for starting it!
We have a few old items, like a bit box of Lego which still gets used. When the GC get bored, we have a timed round with a handful of pieces.
I also really like Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head. Somehow I have the urge to make sure they are put together before they go back in the toy box. Maybe that is influence from the Toy Story movies?
And I love adding to my arts and crafts box. My 8 yr old GD especially loves colouring and painting, so I will sit happily with her and create artworks,
As a small child I was, and still am, fascinated by wooden 'push up' toys - press the base and they flop down, to one side, etc. Seemingly worked with elastic threaded through them. I now collect them and have well over 100 different ones, dating back to the 1950's (my beloved originals).
How lovely boheminan. 😍
I am looking to treat myself to a Steiff teddy bear . Is that really sad ? I never had a teddy as a child, had a few toys not many. Start of mental decline or some link to childhood ?
I still have the dolls house my Dad made for us when we were small (now in the upper half of my 60's) which I still 'play' with (it's got its Xmas trimmings and xmas dinner laid out). 60's style furnishings, which was contemporary with the era in which it was made), plus a much larger Victorian style house Dad made for Mum and which I inherited - likewise trimmed up for Xmas!
I also enjoyed and still have a set of building bricks made of stone and with red brick markings, windows etc and indeed added to it with a larger set bought in an auction a few years ago.
In my attic somewhere is my Sindy doll, and her bed and wardrobe but haven't seen her in a long while.
I still love Sindy dolls, and have my auburn Patch from the 60s in her Red Riding Hood outfit complete with basket.
I'd never heard of a Sacha Doll so I just googled them and I can't remember ever seeing them. I have 3 dolls, 2 I was given by my nans when my brother was born and a Swedish one that my aunts gave me when I was 5. They are tucked away somewhere. Apart from that I don't have anything except childhood books.
He-Man & Thundercats figures & castles. All my DS’s passed down soon to DGS. Lots of Lego played with by my DS &I when he was young now played with by DGS.
My husband built a fab train set when he was recovering from chemo grNd children loved it he always likes to make toys/games old fashioned ones the GC havent seen and they love it we do quizes as well with regards to manufactured toys we like board games and crafts lego stickle bricks nerf guns makeup lego turtles dollshouse action men probably all toys from all eras xx
I bought my gd a dolls house and aithough she's still a little bit young for it I must admit I love setting the rooms out and playing with it😊
I still do colouring books- rediscovered them in lockdown and some of my GC love it also i found. Some of the board are still good fun as are jigsaws.Yes i should have kept spirograph too from when i was little but things hardly were kept back then.I do have my very old teddy though but doubt he's worth anything as hes got 1 different leg.
*board games
No ive never heard of sacha dolls either.were they an American doll?
Just googled them too and i must say i'd have been dissapointed to get one one those- my they are ugly!
And sorry but they do look like the Swiss artist🫢
Dolls houses and furniture. Football table game. Badminton rackets. Board games ...
Our daughters wooden blocks, Legos, and books.
My sons loved Lego and Meccano and I enjoyed helping them. I think I'd quite like a Lego set now..
Two grandchildren here and I’ve held on to a lot of my children’s classic toys. Lego, Duplo, Brio trains, activity table, walker etc. only one of my children has produced offspring so still have potential from the other 4 and will be hanging on to these toys for them!
Wish they still did the Tiny Tears doll. We have a Silver Cross dolls pram which our granddaughters can nearly reach! I still have a teddy bear from my childhood, 60+ years old, maybe it will be a family heirloom.
My partner had a train set as a child and only in the last few years he has started adding to it and it really is a lovely model Railway …We will be showing My 2year old Grandchild soon as it’s up in the loft 😁
Sasha dolls were certainly not American. they were designed by a German artist who lived through WW2 as a child and wanted them to have a neutral expression to reflect the emotions of children at that time. They were made in England and Germany from the late 60s to,the 90s. I guess their expressions make some people think they are a bit Midwitch cuckoos but I think they are very attractive
I have kept my children's lego and continue to buy new (to me) bits of it. As a family we also attend Brickcan, a most awesome convention of lego builders.
I also like my in the night garden collection of toys and books, which I started in 2008 just before the first grandchild was born. I discovered ING while on holiday in England that year.
Etch a sketch is also still fun to play with. My 15 year-old GD requested one for Christmas this year.
I also have a couple of trunks of the wood Thomas the train pieces that I enjoy setting up for the little ones.
(I have a 4 year-old GS that lives with me and I look after my 2 year-old GD Mon-fri) so lots of opportunity to play with my toys 🧸 🔫 😉.
