Old women with long hair in a plait can look fantastic or with their hair up in a french plait

Alison333 Mon 18-Dec-23 16:10:39

OldFrill

Old people with long hair

How old is 'old'?
What about shoulder length?
Getting worried!

False eyelashes (especially the sweeping brush ones) plumped up lips, neck tattoos, false nails so long only the flat of the finger can be used to pick anything up, Christmas Eve boxes. Haven't I'm really got started - off to start a Gingerbread House.

And everyone has to ā€˜bond’ nowadays.

When I worked we were always being sent on bonding courses. Given tasks completely irrelevant to our jobs.
The children had to go on bonding courses at secondary school crawling through potholes. How does getting covered in mud, wet through and scared help you bond with each other?

I used to live near a retired colonel, Bazza. Always used his old title and as pompous as they come. I wasn’t the only one who referred to him as Colonel Blimp.

Lots of fun reading that I will have to finish later… but I do agree with so many of these posts. Lots of ridiculousness out there. Whatever happened to grace, good taste, class and style?

My pet peeves - those long fake nails, bulbous botoxed lips and fake eyelashes that
look like brooms. All female things… why do they do this to themselves?

Will have to come up with a male list. There’s stuff, believe me.

Gwenisgreat Mon 18-Dec-23 14:51:18

Slugs drawn across face where eyebrow used to be?

Bazza Mon 18-Dec-23 14:43:57

Ooh yes Germanshepherds mum, I used to work for a wing commander which he insisted on using although it was many years out of date. He was a pillock as you would imagine. Also men with thinning hairlines and pony tails.

The Royal family think saying toilet is disgusting, they say lavatory.

GrannyGrunter Mon 18-Dec-23 14:40:45

I thought the word naff was a saying when you wanted someone to go away, i.e. naff off.

MrsKen33 Mon 18-Dec-23 14:35:14

Yellow cars. My neighbour had one. When he parked it outside our house and the sun shone on it , the whole of my living room turned yellow. Naff? Annoying yes

I say loo as well. Can’t stand ā€˜toilet’.

If you go to the US I don't think they know what loo means!

Bazza Mon 18-Dec-23 14:27:21

Slug eyebrows
Talon false nails
Trout pout
Three inch false eyelashes
Huge tattoos
Men in grey shoes
Comb overs
Large ladies in white Lycra

Better stop now …….

I say loo as well. Can’t stand ā€˜toilet’.

Germanshepherdsmum

Cleavages
Fat spilling out of tops
Long nails
Slug eyebrows
Trout pouts
Visible tattoos
Makeup put on with trowel
Toilet
Hubby
Fur baby
Rainbow bridge
Off the shoulder wedding dresses
Short skirts on chubby legs
Vaping
Chewing gum

I could go on …

I agree with all your list except toilet, a word which I don't use as I say "loo", but which is pretty acceptable to many of us.

I've just bought a yellow car and love it. It looked lovely a few weeks ago parked in front of an autumnal hedge in my drive. So easy to spot in a car park. I think there is "yellow" and "yellow", mine is a super shade of said colour!
I agree with pretty much everything else that has been mentioned on this thread, I must be a terrible snob.........apart from a yellow car!

cc Mon 18-Dec-23 14:15:07

I loathe all the facial fakery, the fillers in the cheeks and lips, the eyes tightened up so much that women look like cats, the caterpillar permanent eyebrows. Also people who have had nose jobs to make their noses look "cute" especially if they do not have a cute-type face.
And this weird thing where women have fat added to their vast thighs and bottoms? They look malformed.
I don't mind the botox so much, seeing someone with no facial expressions is laughable.

I hate ā€œlavieā€, my parents both said Lavatory or Loo, and I say Loo and if out ask for the ā€œLadies!ā€ Ultra naff, I’m sure lol! (Sorry GSM, that was just for you haha)

Wheniwasyourage Mon 18-Dec-23 13:56:02

I think restroom is naff - I’m not going in there to rest, but for one or both of two specific actions!

NanKate Mon 18-Dec-23 13:52:00

IrisMarle no I’m not from Scotland. I am a Brummie but left when I was 11. I now say sofa !

I think Lounge is naff and I say that too😁 sitting room, drawing room ??

Lavatory, loo, bog !! Take your pick.

Wheniwasyourage Mon 18-Dec-23 13:47:49

Sago, what is wrong with yellow cars, please? I find them cheerful and easy to see in the half light, not to mention a necessity for the yellow car game. Maybe I’m just naff myself, but I would like to know your reason! Thank tou in advance. grin

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 18-Dec-23 13:40:10

I absolutely hate ā€˜lol’.

polly123 Mon 18-Dec-23 13:34:02

Yes, dressed up dogs, lots of tattoos, wavy princess hair (now very boring and ubiquitous), most adverts, americanised language especially 'can I get' and particularly 'it's my bad'....

Maggiemaybe Mon 18-Dec-23 13:04:34

Oh yes. Hubby, hubster and, worst of all, the wonderful man. envy

I don’t mind a bit of naff though. From this thread, I love a trip to IKEA, and wish elves on shelves had been about when my lot were little (such fun!). I have family photos on walls and a big wreath on the front door. I’ve even been known to show a bit of cleavage. My dear grandmother would have approved of this thread - she considered even wearing make up and jewellery before noon very, very common.

If I remember the Mumsnet thread correctly, the blow up dinosaur had been sent as a present by the OP’s mother in law. Come on now, own up, who was it? grin

OTT Christmas decorations as we usually say less is more and it applies to most things
