Good Morning Everyone,
A dark and dry start looks milder as well for the time of year here in brackley.
Yesterday , was hectic with shoppers in Bicester ,saw someone I had not seen for awhile with a nice friendly smile .
Today a quiet day in for me nothing planned either .
Take Care,
Mick

I'm not religious and I know what a Christingle is.

Georgesgran Sun 17-Dec-23 12:57:55

Thank you - I just had a vision of gM handing over an orange and couldn’t understand why the recipient would be emotional.

grandMattie Sun 17-Dec-23 12:45:12

Exactly!

RosiesMaw Sun 17-Dec-23 10:47:59

I imagine Grandmattie was talking about a Christingle,

Georgesgran Sun 17-Dec-23 10:47:53

Just googled it gM and see it’s a sort of religion thing. That’s probably why I’ve never heard of it, nor christingle either.

Georgesgran Sun 17-Dec-23 10:42:09

What is the giving an orange thing about gM?

GrannyGravy13 Sun 17-Dec-23 10:32:18

Popped back to se if Marydoll had posted, I hope all is well 🎄

Good morning from Durham. Windy yesterday and a wonderful sunset, but gale force overnight and today. Coughing has meant a poor night, but I’ve no plans - more wrapping? I must get to grips with it!
I hope those travelling arrive safely, while we home birds have a pleasant day doing whatever. Marydoll you are missed here.
Best wishes to all. X

Good morning Mick and all from a bright 9° northwest coast.
Final presents sorted, tree decorated and lit. Only a table top, but enough for me. I used lametta, angel hair for the first time, I like its old fashioned appearance. I have lots more decs in the basement, but have kept to a minimum. Less to put away on twelfth night.
A quiet day, will have a good tidy up, impelled by my friend’s mountain of clutter, it’s spurred me on. Busy week ahead, so will do it today even though it’s Sunday. My newly appeared arthritis in my left hand is rather painful…

Lovely photos and will read through later 🎄🌺

Blossoming Sun 17-Dec-23 09:53:25

Good morning Mick and all from cloudy Lancashire, currently 9°C.

The sun stayed with us all day yesterday. We a lovely walk, the Marina was busy with boats coming in and the Santa train was full of excited children. No real plans for today, we shall see what the day brings,

Wishing everyone a peaceful Sunday 🎄

Kalu Sun 17-Dec-23 09:33:46

Good morning from Glasgow. Heavy rain and high winds will keep me indoors today.

Lamps are lit to to brighten up such a gloomy day, best of all are the fairy lights and prelit wreaths/decorations.
My bargain buy prelit outdoor tree blew over twice yesterday so it has been moved to where I can tether it to a drain pipe. 🤞

I only send a few cards now to close family and only just realised I haven’t sent one to my cousin and his wife who live on the outskirts of Nottingham, that’s a must be done today task.

Hoping to hear from you soon Marydoll

Best wishes to all for the best day possible.

EkwaNimitee Sun 17-Dec-23 09:16:46

Good morning Mick and everyone from a very windy Carlisle. A staying in day for me! I hate being blown at.
Yesterday I got out early to go to Sainsbury's and found the roads quiet and relatively few customers in store. The staff were very busy though, hauling loaded trolleys of replenishments about. The canyons of cartons and tins of biscuits, chocolates and alcohol never seem to diminish. There's going to be some brisk sales of indigestion remedies....

My modest preparations are done, cupboards and freezer stocked, cards sent, presents wrapped. Time to catch up on my reading today. Nice to read about your busy times though.

My thoughts are with Mr&MrsMarydoll as I'm guessing things are not at all good with you both at the moment.

Have the best possible day everyone.

brook2704 Sun 17-Dec-23 09:13:03

Sorry to hear about your car stilllearning easily done in the dark though, a good suggestion from Taichinan about the night driving glasses 👍

Grammaretto Sun 17-Dec-23 09:09:13

Good morning all from the Scottish Borders. Dreich again but not cold.

What industrious people you are!
Like you Glammagran I watched Strictly for the first time. It's definitely not my thing. ☹️ my cataract op has made the world of difference
I watched over the Christmas market stalls for 4 hours yesterday. Indoors but I got very cold. It was nice to chat with folk not seen in ages and then go home to soak in a warm bath.

Today nothing much is happening. A df is calling this morning bringing me the painting I "won" in a silent auction.

What a pest Stilllearning pranging the car. I hope it's sorted quickly and you don't lose confidence.

Well done Ash on your theatricals. I do wish you had filmed it and we could all watch.

Have the best day you can everyone.

ginny Sun 17-Dec-23 09:07:31

A few scenes from Blenheim . Forgot to add the earlier.

Grandmabatty Sun 17-Dec-23 09:03:51

Good morning all from Polmont where it's currently 10° and damp. Grey skies overhead. Lots of busy people here today!
Yesterday I met my pal for breakfast and we had a good chat. After I took her home, I braved Tesco and managed to get everything I needed. I bumped into DD, sil and the boys too. Later I delivered all the local Christmas cards.
Today I'm working up to heading to town. I have three presents still to buy. Then I'll need to wrap everything. I'll visit mum later too. I'm struggling a bit with lack of oomph today. Gammon for dinner. Have a good day all.

Taichinan Sun 17-Dec-23 08:59:13

Stilllearning so sorry about your 'prang' - but don't give up on the night driving! I have been persevering for too long to be safe but I live so far from everyone, and not on a bus route either, that giving up would have turned me into a winter recluse. So, with DGD's degree dance show looming, I decided that £25 spent on Duco night driving glasses 'for seniors' (!) was worth a try. They are absolutely amazing and the money was definitely well-spent! I don't necessarily enjoy driving at night now - I never did - but at least I feel safer. Do give them a try before giving up. You'll find them on Amazon x

God morning all. Dull but dry here in Sefton.
A lovely trip out yesterday with DS2 & family to a children's Christmas concert at our fabulous concert hall, with our fabulous resident orchestra & junior choir. We are so lucky to have them.
A busy day today. Off to a local garden centre this morning with DS1 & family where there are lots of Christmassy things to see & do. We will stay for brunch in their cafe. Then off to an Unthanks concert late afternoon. They are a wonderful folk group from Northumberland led by 2 young women with the most beautiful harmonising voices. Have seen them many times so know we are in for a real treat.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 17-Dec-23 08:50:55

Good morning from a sunny mild South Downs. Late start today so must get a move on.

House now fully decorated ready to welcome Christmas. Very pleased with the tree this year, it is small but beautifully formed. I’ll try and send a photo🙂🎄

Present wrapping today, and something from the freezer for supper.

Must dash - late!!

Peace and harmony one and all

harrigran Sun 17-Dec-23 08:50:19

Good morning from a dry but very windy NE, gale force wind all night so disturbed sleep.
It was a busy day yesterday with a house full of family. GDs still compiling Christmas wish lists. DIL said she would order a few things and have them sent to me to wrap. Not the way I used to do Christmas but as long as they are happy.
DD and SiL will be coming this afternoon and we will make dinner together tonight.
Have a good day.

Susan56 Sun 17-Dec-23 08:48:55

Good morning from Shropshire.

After an hour of coughing H settled down and so we were able to go for our family meal.Mum wasn’t great but it could have been because there were 10 of us and a lot of noise. My brother is going to see her later so will report back.

Today DGD is dancing in their local pantomime. We are going to the late afternoon performance and will then take her to McDonalds on the way home.It is apparently now a tradition as that’s what we did last year!

Bonnybanko my son in law was amused to hear about your friend getting a combine harvester for his wedding present.

In other farm news my son in laws niece has had an accident in the farm which is very upsetting.

I am hoping Marydoll and Mr Doll are ok, thinking of you both Mary💐

Have the best day you can everyone🦩🎄🎅🏼

glammagran Sun 17-Dec-23 08:45:52

Good morning all. Another dreary day to come. I have cataracts and I really hate dark winter days as it’s so hard to see properly. I’m considering having them done privately next year. On Friday I had my ears syringed on GP advice for the first time since I was a child and what a difference.

I watched the Strictly final last night which was the first time I had done so since the opening show. I enjoyed the dances but not all the padding and screaming. Went on way too long. DH muttered darkly throughout which I thought was a bit off as I have to put up with any number of si-fi series which I find tedious to say the least. Duck cassoulet for dinner from the freezer.

Have a good Sunday all.

ginny Sun 17-Dec-23 08:44:55

Good morning. After a disturbed night, I slept in. Very tired after our lovely outing to Blenheim. I walked the furthest I have since my hip op. Probably around 5 miles. The palace was beautifully decorated and also the garden lights .
A quiet morning for us. Just a little preparation for a craft afternoon with DGS2. He wants to make a special Christmas present each for his Mummy and Daddy.
Wishing a peaceful and pleasant day for you all.

brook2704 Sun 17-Dec-23 08:44:36

Good morning everyone from Inverness where it’s quite mild at 11º but windy.
Well done with another successful production Ash hope you can relax a bit now
I’m looking forward to going to DD2s this afternoon for a birthday tea for DGD, she’s 9 now and growing up far too quickly. After that we’ll bring DGS back here for his Sunday night sleepover.
Enjoy your holiday in Madeira Sar53 and safe travels
Thinking of everyone with worries and struggles, hope today is gentle and take care all whatever the day brings 💐
