Christmas pork cold

My MIL did this at New Year and all through the year, cooking the roast in the evening to have cold the next day. Christmas day was not a holiday in Scotland and FIL worked so no Christmas dinner! I, a visiting Southerner, was horrified to be given mince and tatties. Was it just her or was it common practice in Scotland in the Sixties? I am a Southerner and my first visit to meet the in-laws was at Christmas. No criticism of MILl a lovely lady, just different customs.

We had cold turkey this year with hot veggies on Xmas Day: very good.

Why not reheat in gravy if you don’t like it cold?

I have unbeknowingly had tongue once ( in a sandwich) and when the contents of the sandwich was divulged i was almost sick ....😫

I always do ham/gammon on Christmas Eve and serve it cold on Christmas Day.

My mother did tongue - I loved it

My grandma used to cook a gammon and a tongue for Christmas .
We enjoyed the gammon , but not the tongue .
She ate it herself !

Yes, every time I see pork anywhere, my mind is flooded with Christmas past....

My mum was a farmers daughter who saw too many chickens get their necks wrung, thus always having pork .....

Ive just cooked it and it smells mmmmmm.

Whilst waiting for the pork to cook I was watching Nigella Christmas and she did some crackling in the air fryer.... never thought of that !

I love cold roast pork but as it’s only me now I rarely buy a joint anymore. I will be well fed with turkey and beef at my daughters table on Christmas Day.
Roast pork just thought of it makes my mouth water I’m not keen on chops though.

My mother often used to cook roast pork on Boxing Day (to have hot) so it always feels Christmassy to me. We’ll be having turkey tomorrow at DD’s, but I’ll be cooking roast pork on about the 29th - a joint is waiting in the freezer. 🎄
