So confused, its for carpets and stairs, not hard floors, so cordless ,lightweight , powerful, breaks down to handheld,

We've not been lucky with our Dyson cleaners, they've all failed pretty quickly.
I'd suggest you visit a large electrical retailer and see how easy they are to use, some are very cumbersome and it isn't always easy to remove the handles to make them easier to use on stairs.
Also some have a large motor at the top which must make them more difficult to use?
We've had a Bosch for a few years and it's fine, though the charged battery doesn't last long on full power. We can remove the handle to do the stairs, though as it is very light we don't always bother.

I wouldn't get another Dyson.
My rechargeable one stopped working. I had it completely overhauled with a new battery after being told I shouldn't ever leave it on charge
so my fault
I paid £100 and it's stopped working again.
I use the faithful Henry.

I'm not seeing any messages on gransnet, all I am seeing is this under the title. $message.get/viewQuoteSection($1iu) i'm confused anyone haveing this problem? I'm not sure what to do to rectify it. Any help would be appreciated, that's if I can read it!! Just realised I won't be able to!!

not dyson. found it heavy, clunky, cumbersome. waste of money.
shark. or g-tech. or others mentioned here.

GrandmaMia1 Thu 28-Dec-23 12:20:52

I wouldn’t ever buy a Dyson again, I have had 3 but completely agree with Grandmabatty. After his push for Brexit, then moving production abroad he is not getting anymore money from me. G Tec are rubbish, I have a Miele now, but it is heavy, I have heard Shark is very good.

PattyFingers Thu 28-Dec-23 12:10:16

I have a bosch cordless which I find to be a very easy to use vacuum cleaner and not too heavy (as others seem to be)

Love my G Tech - I’ve got the hand held one too for stairs, skirting boards and spot cleaning. I absolutely detested the upright Dyson I once had. DD1 was given that gimmicky hair dryer they did. She said it was useless.

dayvidg Thu 28-Dec-23 11:43:17

Our G-Tech is fine

Bought a Dyson 3-4 years ago & was happy with it until one day the lady who helped clean for me said it wasnt working. Could not find out why. So bought a Shark so that I had a cleaner till got the Dyson fixed! Then moved & recently my son found someone who fixes most cleaners! Did a lovely job on the Dyson, blamed the cleaning lady for putting the filter back on before it was properly dry! Made such a good job of it I cannot use it now as my hands are too bad to hold it, very powerful machine! So gave it ti my DDiL as she has always wanted one & she loves it. I can manage the Shark so we are both happy! Just depends on what you need!

I had a GTech K9, lasted just over 2 years. It broke at the bottom so my handy hubby repaired it, it only lasted about a fortnight after that. So i was determined not to fall for all the advertising hype regarding Dyson, Shark and all the usual big names. I bought a Greenote Cordless off Amazon, and it is wonderful. Its lightweight, very efficient at getting carpet bits up and the amount of dust in the chamber is quite surprising. It is also much easier to manouvre around compared to the GTech, and its also just under a hundred quid, happy day.

I have a Sebo titan large cylinder vacuum for downstairs. It has a 6 kg dust bag and a really long cord.Itis brilliant but heavy.I have a Shark Rocket corded stick vacuum which is great, powerful and light.Iuse my little Shark for stairs, and everyday quick cleanups.I have never liked cordless vacuums as the charge does not seem to last that long.Ihad a Dyson years ago but it wasn’t that great, also they seem to be extremely expensive compared to other brands.

Mine is a Bosch. Happy with it so far.

Another vote for G Tech - been using for 10 years - no problems at all.

Bluesmum Thu 28-Dec-23 11:12:15

Another vote for GTech air ram, best vacuum ever and many friends and family I have recommended to are also very pleased and would not change. My lovely cleaning girl was a huge Dyson fanatic until she tried my GTech and now agrees with me lol! Their customer service, should you ever need them, is absolutely excellent too.

I just like to see the dust balls alongside the skirting boards. Reminds me how virtuous I am doing some vacuuming.

The GTech Air Ram has a light too, Urmstongran - very useful when vacuuming under furniture!

Urmstongran Tue 26-Dec-23 18:03:31

I love my cordless Bosch. Would highly recommend. Light. Easy to use. Has a light when it’s switched on which thrills me every time I use it! I know - I need to get out more…

Juliet27 Tue 26-Dec-23 17:49:14

I’ve always been happy with Gtech

Iam64 Tue 26-Dec-23 17:36:04

Tenko, it’s odd how different our experiences are with the Dyson animal. I’m happy with mine to the extent I bought the newer model when my 10 year old dyson v8 was becoming tired.

Tenko Tue 26-Dec-23 17:24:18

I’ve got a cordless Dyson animal and it struggles with dog hair . It gets clogged up and the filter needs cleaning after every use . I wouldn’t buy again

Aldom Tue 26-Dec-23 17:14:03

My Gtech cordless is around 8 years old. Brilliant, lightweight and still going strong. I also have the Gtech hand held vacuum cleaner for the stairs. Does the job in no time. I would never go back to Dyson vacuum cleaners.

Iam64 Tue 26-Dec-23 16:02:48

I had an original upright Dyson but moved into cordless animal V8. I’ve never had any problems with them. I have a spaniel and a huge yellow lab so the ground floor , big kitchen/diner, utility two sitting rooms and hall are done daily. As Jaberwok says, it’s probably luck if the draw.

Jaberwok Tue 26-Dec-23 11:57:06

I guess it's the luck of the draw. I've had three Dysons, two were upright, an early model and a roller ball, then my present rechargeable one now nearly 7 years old. All have been absolutely fine, the roller ball still going strong at our sons home, the rechargeable more than adequate for our small bungalow and copes well with our Spaniels fur!

Jacs7 Tue 26-Dec-23 11:55:54

I have just bought a GTech Air Ram which I can highly recommend. I have a mixture of mainly carpets, but a parquet hall floor, laminate in one room and vinyl in the kitchen and bathroom and it copes effortlessly with it all without any adjustments. The battery lasts about 45 minutes on one charge; it is as light as a feather and easy to empty. A great buy. It doesn’t have attachments, but I also invested in a lightweight handheld hoover with a motorised brush which deals well with the stairs and nooks and crannies. I am really pleased with both and so is my back which doesn’t have to lug a heavy hoover up and down the stairs
.

The Dyson I had was appalling. They sent me a new charger and it was still appalling so I chucked it out. Bought a cheap one which is still working 5 years later. I really can’t understand why they do so well that company because daughter also had a fancy one that lasted less than 12 months when she changed it for a miele
