Celebrations to bring the New Year in ?

Hahahaha well, in bed hugging hot water bottle before the clock struck,
Fast asleep 😴 .

I was informed this morning that there wad a slight puff of a firework and then silence.... my reply was not bothered, didn't hear but whoaaaa I had a fabulous sleep. and to think at 1 time I made such a big hoo-ha about it.

Such a lovely sound sleep 💤💤 💤💤

Well I was asleep by 1130 and even the fireworks did not wake me. I slept for nine hours. Great start to 2024! Happy New Year!

Not a thing. I'm already showered and in my jammies and plan to be sound asleep by the bells. Having family over for dinner tomorrow, but that's it. New Year has never been much of a big thing for me.

I don’t plan to stay up but there is not much chance of going to sleep as the fireworks will be loud. Only twice have I done anything special: at the Millennium, when we went out into the roads and raised a glass with the neighbours, and last year we were celebrating my granddaughter’s 18th. and we had fireworks.

Got a few neighbours coming round for a very simple buffet, drinks and chat.

A nice meal ( tapas style )and a glass of two of wine, but won't be seeing the new year in, bed at our usual time just after 10, will read for a bit and hopefully it will be a quiet night fireworks wise as the weather is dreadful.

Staying and early to bed in as usual, but this year we have covid for company. 😷

I really should preview before posting.

We rang the old year out and the new year in for many years. We even took young DC up the spiral staircase to the ringing. Chamber when they really should have been in their beds.

This was before the 'tradition' of fireworks became a thing in 2000. It was suggested that we ring at midnight tonight but too few of us want to turn out in the cold now.

We will have dinner with our sons. They will go to the village pub and we will take a bottle of wine round to next door. Hopefully we will stay awake to see the new year in.

I am staying at home to be certain that my two young cats are not badly frightened by the fireworks, as the last few days has shown me that they are both "gun-shy".

Like RosiesMaw I shall miss my husband, and my sister who died at 4 a.m. on Ne'erday 2016, but I am eternally grateful that both were part of my life. I miss my parents too, but it is after all more "natural" to outlive ones parents than a younger sister or a spouse.

According to Scottish tradition it is unlucky to with people a Good New Year until after midnight, so I shall refrain, but will be thinking of you all.

Chinese takeaway round DD1 and family. The grandchildren are obsessed with Cluedo this year, so a game or two. Then raise a glass, though strawberry lemonade for me as I'm the appointed driver back through the Devon lanes. 🌳 🌲

Sit up till midnight and have some fizz and smoked salmon.
Sing Auld Lang Syne along with the T.V.
Have a good reflection and then cry. I always do and can't stop myself although I very rarely cry at anything.
Then I'll text the DDs if they haven't already texted us.

Every year since Paw died I have maintained that “I am fine, I will probably go to bed and not give New Year another thought” etc etc
But based on the last 6 New Years, I will probably also reflect and cry.
And nothing wrong with that! It is normal to feel grief for those we have lost - parents, siblings, partners or friends and to shed a tear, but let’s try not “to feel sad because they are no more, but rejoice because they were “

Pub at 7 before the disco starts at 8 to wish friends a Happy New Year.
Peking duck with pancakes for 2, The Last Leg, Rick Astley, Jools for the pipe band at 12 then outside to hear the ships in dock with their foghorns and watch fireworks.
Finish off my yearly glass of Tia Maria whilst texting the children and absent friends, bed.

Going to the village pub in the afternoon and walk five mins away to the new restaurant with our friends. We go home early evening to have some pink fizz and later watch Jules Holland show. At midnight the fire works here are like bombs we will cuddle our dog as she will be terrified.

Seeing the new year in with my son who always visits on Sundays anyway. But only sausage and chips or something like that. No more roasts for the moment thank you...
We will probably watch the fireworks from London. And drink a glass of something to welcome 2024.

Dinner, ceilidh, bringing in the bells and overnight stay at a hotel. Home for steak pie on New Year's Day. Then a very long nap indeed.

If we’ve got any fizz left we’ll have a glass of that at midnight, after eating up a lot of the Christmas chocs and watching the fireworks on TV.
Dinner will probably be sausages, mash, and lots of sprouts - I still have a ‘stick’ of them keeping fresh outside. (Dh’s favourite veg!)
Followed by more inroads into the 2nd Christmas pudding and 2nd batch. of brandy butter - first of both went to DD’s.

Hoping to go to bed early!

Never was a NY Eve person particularly. Dont like late nights.

Not doing anything special this evening. Probably watch TV and have an early night (as usual).
However, tomorrow morning we're booked for brunch at a lovely restaurant with a great view of the 'loony dookers' swimming in the sea. Should be a nice start to 2024.
