Male foibles - The Ick?

Before anyone jumps on me for passive aggressive bullying, this is intended to be a light hearted thread.

Two years ago I told my granddaughters that as a teenager I refused to go out with a boy after I’d heard him call Coca Cola, fizzy pop!! 😮😂 I thought him deeply uncool.

They shrieked with laughter and said he’d obviously given me ‘the ICK.’ I’d never heard this expression before (along with many others) and the dictionary definition says it’s something that causes disgust. Well, I wouldn’t go that far! 😂

Last week I had lunch with a group of friends and sat opposite a man I didn’t know. I didn’t mind that he talked at length about his past career, many qualifications, years of service etc., etc., I can zone out when that happens but it was when he cut up his naan bread with a knife and fork and dipped each dainty little square in the sauce that I thought Eeeek! Or should that be ICK?? 🤣🤣🤣

So, what gives you the Ick? Of course it’s not always men- I hasten to add!

A second date with a lovely chap I worked with became the final date as he turned up having had a crew cut mid route to meet me. It rather emphasised his mis-shapen head and ears. No thank you

Any facial hair or long hair, tats, excess weight and plumpness.

I do wonder when any of us women have been dumped for similar misdemeanours
The majority I would imagine 😄

When sitting on a river bank on a lovely sunny day listening to the birds singing and he said "what's so special about a bird singing?"

Didn't bother with him again!

Beards, long hair, tattoos.

A lad I was seeing, over 6 feet tall, took me home to introduce me to his mother. He then proceeded to curl up at her feet, hugged her knees, and rested his head in her lap while she stroked his hair. ICK!!! I couldn't get out of there fast enough.

I went out with someone, who proposed quite quickly.
I couldnt marry a man, who wore white socks with too short trousers. Shallow, i know!

Went out with a boy when I was seventeen who looked like a male model . After a movie we went out to eat . We all ordered cocoa colas with our meal and he ordered milk. Turned me off but he did become a very successful doctor .

When I was 17 I went out with a very nice lad but I dumped him when I discovered he had NO teeth.

Not one. He’d had them smashed out fighting.

No thank you 🫣

Just remembered seeing someone for a few dates, nothing serious and he proposed marriage and moving in with his mother, a good idea he thought.

Went out with a man when I was 17 to cinema it was a comedy film and his laugh was a very high pitched squeal, so much so that everyone in the cinema was looking round to see who it was, I did the same! and didn’t accept the second date.

Someone tried to talk during a Prom in the Albert Hall. Why did he invite me in the first place? Or maybe I suggested going. Thank goodness I didn't spot anyone I knew. ICK big time

Aged fifteen, first date, he held my hand , I felt lumpy things, he had warts, gave me the ick.
Luckily not enough to dump him. Warts went away soon after, he never did.

I think it's called ghosting now

You have to give somebody the ick before they ghost you. 😕

It’s a miracle any man gets paired up reading some of these icks (mine included) 😁

Suede shoes! When I met my husband he these and I couldn't contemplate anything long term unless they went. They soon went after I mentioned it. Can't bear them - so sleazy.

A recent grown up boyfriend accompanied me to the national Gallery. We stood in front of the Tudor portraits. He said “they’re quite good aren’t they? I wonder where they keep the originals?” ICK!

Anyone (man or woman) who holds their knife and fork like a pencil. Or doesn’t know how to use cutlery. I don’t cut them out of my life but they definitely go down in my estimation.

I dumped a guy once, because he was round my house, I had a seperate toilet, (no sink), he asked to use the toilet, so I told him where it was, and that the bathroom was next to it (to wash hands)... He used to toilet and didn't was his hands after!!

When I was about sixteen and still at school, I finished with a lad who phoned me, from his work, every day just as the Magic Roundabout had started at 5.45pm. I mean, honestly, it was cult viewing at the time and only lasted five minutes! Perhaps I should've explained...

Casdon

I packed a boy in once because he spat on the ground when we went out for a walk -yuck. I don’t think people pack you in these days, they call that something else too I expect.

I think I'd just walk away immediately if this happened, just disgusting.

I was always very choosy who I dated, I gave a lot of maybes, “ick” came before the date. The loud clever types didnt interest me it was the quiet confident boys that were my “type”. There were only 2 serious contenders before my husband, both dropped me, they only rated “OK” so I wasn’t bothered.

Buttonjugs Mon 08-Jan-24 11:32:57

Witzend

I didn’t dump him (not until later anyway) but an old boyfriend used to swill every mouthful of any drink around his mouth before swallowing it. A very unlovely habit.

My son does this. He’s autistic.

One boyfriend my mother deemed very suitable (enough to out me off for a start) turned up in a Triumph Spitfire and changed gear by holding the gear stick with the tips of his fingers rather than enclosing his hand round it. That was enough, yuck!
