I’ve gone back to tablecloths

I do hope all these visitors are appreciative of table clothes
Christmas and special occasions for table cloth
It’s not so much the washing the ironing is such a faf

I don’t like ironing so no tablecloths except a couple of oilskin ones.

I like hand embroidered, by my mum, or old lace tablecloths for visitors.. mostly I use an oilcloth on my oak table as I also use it for drawing..

We have one huge heavy white damask table cloth. Only used once a year at Christmas... too much ironing otherwise.
In the past there were seersucker ones that didn't need any ironing. Now occasionally I have a table runner that doesn't get dirty.

I have just three plain ones and a Christmas one. I find a dressed table to be welcoming too, in fact, I must go and change ours, OH slopped on it this morning

I have a drawer full of table cloths. Two enormous ones, one with Holly and Ivy, and the other with mistletoe that I use on the dining table at Christmas. Then a host of others collected over the years, some my mother’s , that I use on the kitchen table.

I made the tablecloths for the christmas period for the last ten years and now I have decided that we are going to use tablecloths all year round. They look so much better.

I always use a tablecloth. I have so many I’ve lost count!

I don’t possess any!
But I recently unearthed a big piece of jungle-pattern vinyl (formerly used under toddler Gdcs’ high chairs) to cover the dining table when Gdds (just 4 and 8) were making mince pies shortly before Christmas.
(We don’t have a kitchen table alas.)

They made a very good job of 2 dozen, most of which were taken home.

I have some lovely tablecloths, but often only use them when we have visitors, especially children. I can then put the table protector under the cloth, so no accidents with hot dishes or spilled liquids.
Often in the summer I put an inherited lacy cloth on the garden table with a vase of natural flowers. Lovely to sit out and have tea.

We have a few oilskin cloths we use on kitchen table as it’s used for lots of other things as well as eating.

We have a beautiful round table in the dining room and I always have a protector and a nice cloth on that.

None here, they create washing or cleaning!

I was just thinking of this, tablecloths are so welcoming and homely, little vase of flowers and a lemon drizzle cake!

Sorting out several cupboards I found some lovely old material with herbs and olives on it , enough for our big table so I am overlocking it and it can be a tablecloth. I have no idea why I bought it, no way would it look good as a dress. Probably 20 years old at least !
For many years I haven’t used tablecloths except at Christmas but sod the minimalist look, it’s back to the 50 s and 60s for me.

I’ve never stopped using them. I’m using my late Mums and some of my Aunties cloths as well as Cath Kidson oilcloth covers.

I visited a care home recently and was impressed, among other things, by the lovely tablecloths in the dining room. Little vases of flowers too and proper napkins. Very nice.

I love tablecloths and runners and have several of each but I am married to someone who cannot stop inveigling his body into the tablecloth and pulling the dishes with him! We have table mast mostly but a cloth when we have guests and I try to get him to stay still and not keep jumping up for something.

I’ve never had to ‘go back’ to tablecloths as I’ve never stopped using them.

Also wear a pinny and have chair back and arm covers (antimicassars) on my suite.

I’m not ancient, but realise I must sound like a proper 👵🏻

I love my tablecloths. And they protect my beautiful table.

We are using tablecloths I inherited from my Great Aunt. So.much nicer than a boring table.
