One is not obligated to attend or accept social invitations.

You could go for a short while if invited and leave early. It would give you a chance to get to know them and to explain that you drink little and tend to go to bed early. If you then find that it's your turn to host the event (and, let's face it, your early nights and little appetite for drink might preclude that) you'll be in a position to ask some of them to help you.

With any luck, it won't come to that!

Please don't rule out joining in because they are younger than you. Mixing with younger people helps to keep you young and, I image, that they are nice people if they include you.

They may only be asking you out of inclusive courtesy, in which case how nice to have such thoughtful neighbours, but they may well be relieved if you say 'Thanks, but no thanks'.

Don't be persuaded into anything you don't want to do. Just explain nicely and hopefully they will understand.

We have neighbours drinks on an ad hoc basis, we offer lager and our usual white, red or rose wine but our neighbours usually bring their usual drink and we just serve a variety of crisps. It's lovely!

Would you like to go to a neighbour's / have you been invited to attend?
If you haven't been before, but would like to then maybe attend for a short time to show your face and see what other hosts do.
Don't feel pressured to attend or host if it's not your type of thing though.

You could even send a nice card to explain if you feel stressed about refusing face to face.

As your neighbours are younger than you, they really won't be surprised or offended if you don't want to join in. Just thank them politely for inviting you and say that alcohol doesn't agree with you and you like to get to bed early. Don't get into a tizzy about it. They honestly won't think any less of you.
