Good morning all from chilly and very frosty South Lanarkshire.

I’ve woken with a cold so I will give yoga a miss but have arranged to take one of our DGDs to the cinema after school so I’ll dose up with Lemsip and wear a mask. She would be very disappointed if I were to cancel, she’s a bit of a worry wart and needs a bit of a distraction.

I share your annoyance about the gritters, Kalu. The richest L.A in Scotland and no roads nor pavements gritted. I had great trouble getting to the pharmacy the other day, the roads and pavements were like glass.

Yesterday was spent in bed, I felt awful. What a waste of a day! A shop for essentials is necessary and DH has offered to go, but I need to be in control. I am an ungrateful wretch, but he doesn't bring what was asked for and instead brings things he thinks we might need.

I hope you get good news at the hospital Ash and today is better for you, GMBatty.

Good morning all from a lovely frosty NE Lincs, its lovely to see where you all live, and what you're doing for the day.As for me, hopefully driving over to see family, before they jet away on holiday,not far to go, just outside of town, so 20 minute drive into the countryside.

Good morning all and it’s very dull - no sun today . The sea is the same colour as the sky.

Yesterday I managed to get the ‘book club’ book at our little towns library. I have waited over two weeks for a copy in my library in Essex without any joy! 😤. Book club is meeting tomorrow evening so there’s no way I will finish the book, but never mind.

I’m going to watch One Life at the cinema this afternoon, which I’m looking forward to.

Yesterday we had the plumber in as our shower is leaking. Have to order another one and he’ll return to fit it when we’re next here. He’s a very strange chap, looks about 30 but has a 40yr old daughter and is a grandad. Long straggly hair, gabbles non stop and tells us his life story. Quite an interesting person but completely eccentric. He does a good job and is a busy man.

Good morning from another dry,cold day but the biting wind we had on Monday has,thankfully,disappeared.

Porridge on and then off to my keep fit class followed by coffee with a neighbour and fellow dog Walker who lives up the track from us.

A pile of ironing beckons,mainly bedding from family visits over Christmas which I think I can no longer ignore. That should be my afternoon’s activity but we’ll see what distractions I can’t resist!

Good morning from a chilly W Kent. The builders arrived at 7.30 to deal with boarding and guttering. DH had been up most of the night feeling unwell and my foot is still swollen so fun day all round

Good morning Mick and all from a -1C northwest coast.
Music club went well and another offer to sing came out of it, always gratefully accepted.

Midday recital today and another musical get together tonight, but may give them a miss. I don’t fancy the midday recital and I have a busy day tomorrow so may pace myself.

One of my closest friends has been diagnosed with a DVT after excruciating leg pain, a surprise to her and Im not sure if she will be able to join me and my sister from the south next week for our usual jaunt into the city.

Good morning everyone it’s to be -5 today here on the east coast of Fife I think the frost will melt with the sun rise. I’m going shopping again today for just a little food for my weekend family visiting.

Morning all it’s 0 here no snow.

Off to the gym this morning, then I am going to have a big sort out of toys in our playroom. So many baby ones which it’s time to let go.

Yesterday’s swimming lesson went really well for the 8yr old unfortunately The Imp spends his time underwater when teacher isn’t looking, he has no interest of swimming on the water just under it 🤣

I am glad it’s not raining but am tired of the cold - no pleasing me, obviously. Another grey morning with a heavy ground frost but I only have singing this afternoon so a slow start is fine. I am definitely more affected by the cold than I used to be. I think January is just something to survive and we are more than half way through it so that is a reason to be cheerful.

Good morning everyone from south Manchester where the thick snow of yesterday has completely disappeared. Sadly so has a gold earring of mine. I went to the doctor’s yesterday. She listened to my chest and gave me a prescription for amoxicillin and sent me up the road for a chest x-ray. I’m hoping I lost it it the x-ray room when I pulled off my polo necked sweatshirt. I’ve just rung the hospital XRD and they will phone me if it turns up.

Book club tonight in the pub over the road. I didn’t finish the book as it bored me and I’m not drinking as it’s Dry January!
🤣 still, it will be good to see my friends.

Yesterday's decluttering never happened spent 2hrs trying to sort out an identity fraud.
Today I need to cancel a dental appointment somehow I've double booked and appointments overlap, it's only a check up so a rescheduled one will be ok.

Good morning Mick and everyone from icy but bright Carlisle where it was -5°C a short while ago.
Yesterday it snowed all morning, we got over an inch by the time it stopped at lunchtime. Then a slow thaw started, by which time I'd already booked a taxi to take me to the surgery in town. Whilst the estate roads were dicey, the council had thoroughly gritted all the main roads, from an early hour the taxi driver told me.
The big freeze set in overnight, the wet roads and my drive are now a potential skating rink so I shall have to take care when retrieving my wheelie bin.
Re non-gritting....once on a winter trip to northern Norway, I was surprised to find the roads and pavements weren't cleared. Always thinking that Norway was a more advanced civilisation, I'd expected they would be. However, they wore spiky thingies on their shoes and I believe have special winter tyres. It is, of course, entirely different when you know you'll get those conditions every winter.
Today will definitely be indoors, some housework in the morning, some reading and brain-training in the afternoon. I hope to finally finish my rather weird sci-fi classic. It has a strange grip on me though...

I hope all goes well with medical appointments, tradesmen doing 'stuff' and obstreperous grandchildren!

Little Dog, who came with a small bag of DD2’s laundry is here, so that’s a walk later for us.
First job is to sort my car insurance - from £309 to £611, so some research to do. DD2’s company offer was £947, so that’s a definite no!

Yesterday we had a quiet day at home, pottering. MrB had done the supermarket shop early and we didn’t need to go out otherwise. The snow has disappeared overnight. If it’s not too icy and my balance behaves I may go for a walk later.

Hope all our poorlies and carers find some comfort today, take care if you’re travelling.

Good morning from a sunny NE where we have a hard frost and it is -2.
We had snow yesterday morning but it did not lie long.
It was bitterly cold when we went shopping and was glad to get home. SIL left after lunch to finish his packing, he is on his way to Brussels this morning.
I was going to wash and iron today but I slept late so I will just have a bits and bobs day and perhaps some reading.

Good morning from Winter Wonderland! Beautiful to look at - but it doesn't tempt me to rush outside with abandoned joy! We haven't had 'proper' snow here for ten years or more - usually protected by being on the coast.
Well, I've certainly hurkle-durkled today! That apparently is an old Scots phrase for 'lounging in bed longer than one ought'. DD noticed it used on FB yesterday but had never heard it before, and neither have I. And nobody I spoke to yesterday had heard it either. I'm wondering if its use is more Highlands and Islands. Do any of the other Scottish Grans know it? I love it, and from now on I'm going to hurkle-durkle with abandon!
And having hurkle-durkled this morning until after 9am I haven't read any posts yet so can't comment, but I hope everyone is keeping cosy and safe - and of course hurkle-durkling 😉😁

The dentist ‘fixed’ my painful gum and wobbly crown yesterday - the crown came out with the mould gunch and when she looked at the remains of the tooth she said it was completely split and unrepairable 🙁 so out it came. I am now waiting for my existing denture to come back with an extra tooth on it. I feel a bit battered today. But there are worse things.

Today I will prep Seville oranges and carry on with my January sorting and decluttering.

I think Grammarretto is setting off for New Zealand tomorrow so if you are reading, Turas math dhuibh! (I hope that’s correct Gaelic for ‘Bon voyage’!

Good morning from a very cold but dry East Midlands. Shopping done and an afternoon of knitting is calling.

Blue skies and freezing conditions here in Eden. The Pennines look beautiful. DH has disappeared for a walk from the village he can only make in cold conditions one of those lonnings that are usually all clarty. He has already been pruning trees with his friend and made a quick getaway.
Thinking of all who have health problems or relations with them. Take care all if you have the treacherous conditions we have. Who but us would choose a house halfway up a notorious fell.x

I'd join you Bella! I'm on the top of a NE Scotland hill which I love for the views, but I'm only 3 miles from the centre of the nearest town, so very tame!

I’ve never heard that phrase Taichnan but I have enjoyed a few hurkle durkles myself. According to google, it is an eighteenth century southern Scottish phrase. One I can use on 2 teenage GDs. 😆 every day is a school day.
