Wetherspoons is a dog-free pub

I'm a big Spoons fan - their prices are incredible. DH spends hours in our local Spoons with his laptop and a cheap pint. He's in heaven and out of my way.
I value the fact that they have these specific rules.
I applaud their no-music rule - we can hear ourselves talk!
And the no sports rule - there are plenty of pubs with sport on.
Wherever there is a Spoons you will notice that the clientele is pretty well classless and it's always full.
Spoons have saved many iconic pubs and buildings and always do it sensitively - there is an amazing one in the City of London which is an old Victorian bank with magnificent mahogany interior.
On top of which they always serve coffee.
BUT the no dogs rule is a real pain sometimes especially when we are in the country with our harmless cockapoo.
I feel Tim Martin should allow individual owners or regional managers (or however he has things organised) to make a judgement call - either no dogs at all or dogs allowed at the discretion of the management (and turned out without delay if needs be).

Don't mind well-behaved dogs too much but a pub without football is my dream . Would not eat or drink in a pub with football on TV!!

I'd much rather pubs won't allow obnoxious screaming arrogant brats in, running around, being noisy, knocking into people, knocking food and drinks off the table, leaving an absolute MESS all over the table, chairs, floors, being rude and abusive to staff and customers, while mummy and daddy refuse point blank to control their hideous monsters and continue worshipping their mobiles. They're the reason I no longer go to pubs.

Supermarkets, shops, libraries, buses etc. should also have no-brat rules!

I understand that not everyone likes dogs, dogs aren't to everyone's taste, I totally get that, but most are perfectly well behaved in public, unlike most kids!

Well said Spuddy. Our dog is a part of our family and goes everywhere with us. Even her passport is full and need to apply for a new one. I always ring ahead when going to a restaurant or pub to see if they allow dogs in. If the answer is No I have no problems with that will go to one that does. However when it comes to children it is hard to find places that say no children. Only the other day went for a meal, our dog sat under our table and no-one even knew she was there. In comes a family on the next table with 3 horrors (kids) one started screaming for no apparent reason, other one kicking the back of his chair incessantly while the other brat ran amok all around everyone's tables asking people daft questions like what are you doing. The parents were so engrossed on their phones they didn't appear to know what was going on. After 20 mins of this and numerous complaintd one of the waitresses went over and asked if they could make them sit down and be quiet. The parents were so rude to the waitress I felt so sorry fir her. As we were leaving the Manager came and apologised and said we have more problems with kids than dogs.

I think Wetherspoons showing sport isn't such a problem as they only show what's on terrestrial television, which isn't every night. Worst pubs for me are the ones with the Sky Sports signs( sport mostly meaning football), where this tedious game and the pundit talk can be on every day. I never go to the two local pubs for that reason.

My local is a Weatherspoons. Grade 2 listed, extremely popular. Many pubs around here would be grateful for half the revenue this pub turns over.

SeaWoozle and Misinterpreted you ve never been in our Wetherspoons I m not fan of the owner but he has done a brilliant job Ours is bright, cheery, very clean, beautifully decorated It’s in a ‘well known to locals’ building and there are big photos of how it was dotted around The food is no worse than most pubs or franchise businesses There s a lovely outside area with real plants all round and brightly coloured chairs It’s clean it’s reasonably priced and it’s popular
Most people who knock it either haven’t ever been in or are people who do fine dining and prefer to pay for the posh places that give you one pea on the plate

Weatherspoons have brought back the very cheap drinks deal on MONDAYS only.

This Saturday (25 May) the FA Cup football match takes place between the two Manchester clubs,the game is live on BBC and ITV so if you want to avoid the football the build up starts just before 2pm.

I have a dog, but we don't take him into bars or restaurants - but for all the dog haters, there are plenty of places which don't allow them in. So by all means, you go to Wetherspoons - I won't be joining you.

Half the time you don't even know they're there. But we've always had Guide Dogs so lucky we get to take them in and never been questioned, like friends of ours have with their GDs.

So you’ve been to all 809 Wetherspoons in the UK to be able to call them “awful”? 🤣

We’ve had several visitors to our holiday house and they all leave very favourable comments about ‘Spoons. It’s clean and bright, the staff are friendly, it has a lovely atmosphere, the food is great and service is good. The coffee is the best in town and you get free refills. I have never had to complain about anything.

We will be popping in tomorrow late morning for their lovely coffee with free refills and either a traditional breakfast or a Miners Benedict. That’s a toasted muffin with two poached eggs, black pudding, hollandaise sauce and rocket. They also do eggs benedict with ham or mushrooms instead of black pudding.

I don't use our local Wetherspoons.However I applaud their 'assistance dogs only 'policy! Our local garden centre also has banned dogs from the premises .The reason given that staff were having to clean up the outside area after dog owners alowed their 'well behaved 'pets to foul the area! DISGUSTING! We visit there often for coffee and lunch.

Sky news at 11:30am friday 22nd March 2024,reporting that sales have surged recently,maybe because of the no dog policy.

I love Wetherspoons a a teetotal vegetarian who doesn't go to pubs as a rule.

I’ve found that Wetherspoons pubs are variable. The one in my town is spacious and quite pleasant. Not all of them are the same.

Very few of them are the same with regards to the layout and furnishings. It is a little known fact that each Wetherspoons has a unique carpet design that in some way reflects the previous history of the building or the person it is named after.

I don't think I could relax around an XL Bully. I know that some owners say they are lovely, but I would feel like I was eating with a lion at the next table.
