Do you find mobility scooters a nuisance?

I have been knocked off my bike by a big scooter (one with complete plastic cover) shooting out of a side road, I have had a lady run into my foot whist standing in a queue waiting to pay, inside a shop she was one ahead of me and changed her mind about waiting, so backed to get out the queue and went into my foot
I don’t have a problem with most mobility scooters they are a boon to anyone with disability but :-
a) they are huge now, much too big, some are the size of a bubble car or a huge motorbike (made to look like a motorbike with big silver handlebars)
b) they are often used as a cheap car, by non disabled
c) they can be used by folks without proper care and travel too fast in crowds
I have often seen people get out of the scooter and walk or even trot as good as you and me
There is a lady near me who drives a large scooter towing an ‘addition’ at the back that carries half her worldly goods playing very loud music
I have seen young people (probably borrowing their grans scooter) with girlfriend on their knee scooting around (cheap car)
Scooterers whizzing around with children on their knees and probably worst of all a man here in his covered in scooter with his dog on a long lead running outside of his plastic bubble…. the lead can trip anyone passing him as he has no knowledge of what his dog is doing outside his bubble

People around here seem to think it fine to use the road. A it dangerous for all.

I am sure there are genuine people who do need the assistance of scooters etc to get about. However years ago I was given the date for my THR I was in my fifties and walking was unbearable. I had to go to the dentist for a letter before my surgery confirming my front teeth were capped. Apparently it was something NHS needed to know before my operation.

I was struggling in our large health centre to walk to the dental surgery. Suddenly out of the blue a scooter whizzed past me at great speed I had to quickly move out of the way. The woman in charge of it parked it up and legged and I mean legged it into the pharmacy I don’t know why she had a scooter but physically she got about perfectly fine.

It is the behaviour of the person rather than the scooter, there is a lady in our town that goes too fast on the pavement and in shops, she is very rude and shouts move if anyone is in her path.

In general I think scooters are a very useful vehicle and most users are sensible drivers,

Yes, that might be flowing under my negativity. I have seen atrocious driving and expecting ppl to leap out of the way, i dont like that total lack of consideration.

I just feel far easier and 'accepted' when I'm in wheelchair or rollator..

Serendipity I am inclined to agree but my feeling is that many have no road sense and I feel one needs a little road sense on a pavement.

One cannot go bombing down a pavement expecting everybody to move because some of us, including myself, are not capable of moving quickly and I am partially sighted which does not help.

No I don’t. I have used a wheelchair some years ago and people have actually walked into it because they were looking straight ahead, over my head.
