Local BBC radio presenters axed

BBC is hell bent on cutting its ties with the older members who pay the TV Licence tax.

No where on the paper TV licence does it mention our public broadcaster by name.

Don't worry if your a football follower,your programmes are safe.

I'm also in Sussex and it's been terrible since October when we lost our presenters in the evening. Also Joe on Sunday morning with his brilliant gardening programme, it's all very sad and you worry about them being out of a job too! There is a Facebook group if you were one of Paul Miller's listeners that you can join in with quizzes etc.

Yes we’ve lost a few presenters from our local BBC radio station. It is a shadow of its former self. Interestingly the 3 who have gone are males of about 50/60+ years of age. All the replacements are younger and so bland. Also the presenters who are advertised are altered I’ve never heard of them before. It’s like listening to Alan Partridge with the one who does the afternoon show. Even the news presentation is in decline. I don’t listen very much now. The BBC have really ruined local radio but as infoman says football followers are ok.

Yes, we’ve lost some really good presenters on BBC Radio Kent - Steve Ladner, Julia George, Ray Clark, Andy Garland to name but a few. I really miss their programmes.

The BBC is being deliberately starved of funds, hence the cut backs. The Tory plan to destroy the BBC is well underway.

I agree Jansue. I used to listen to Jason everyday and I often wonder what happened to the Jason family. I know some of them couldn't go out and it was precious listening for them. Thinking of Ethel, Trish and we can't forget Patrick

I wonder if local BBC is suffering because of the huge sums paid to the likes of Gary Lineker for example on national BBC? And the growing question of why we have to pay a licence fee solely to go to funding the BBC, coupled with the hike in price and therefore a downward spiral in the number of people renewing their licence?

Yes I'm missing some presenters from BBC Cumbria. In the afternoon it links to BBC Lancashire and the news covers Burnley and Bolton which for me I have affinity to, its sad we are feel like this.

I also used to listen to Jason Rosam every morning and miss his cheerful chatter.Also Mark Cummings and Claira Hermit as well.

Im with Koalama in being a massive Boom Radio fan, its a fantastic station, offering Boom light, Boom Rock and Boom radio itself. I do still enjoy my local BBC station, BBC three counties, but it has changed quite a lot following the cutbacks, it is very sad, it has not been a change for the better in my opinion.

I have stopped listening to local radio, lots if my favourite presenters have left and I don't feel its local anymore.

So true... same thing happened on Radio London. Vanessa Feltz, Robert Elms and Jo Good used to be perfect for me as I went about my day. Robert and Jo have been sidelined to just a few slots at times I don’t listen and Vanessa moved to another radio station. The current Radio London presenters are just bland and not on my wavelength at all. Jason Rosam was also on our station in the early pre-breakfast slot, he was excellent. I’m 66 and really loved all the London chat, regular callers and learned a lot about What's On in London etc from Robert Elms. Always a go-to place if there were important events happening, especially back in lockdown when local radio was vital. A big shame.

I have always tuned in to LBC radio. Suddenly they got rid of Steve Allen and now Andrew Castle seems to have gone AWOL. Any one know where they are now please?

Wondered where Steve Allen and Andrew Castle went. No warning. I guess they really only want to concentrate on phone-ins now but Steve Allen made a pleasant change. He cheered me up.

Yes, I was wondering where Andrew Castle had gone. I think he upset people by being too outspoken. I enjoyed his programmes at the weekend.

I still miss Terry Wogan on Radio 2. With his happy banter with John Marsh snd his hilarious Janet and John stories.

Local radio stations, like local newspapers, are hugely important to communities. And yet they are being decimated. It is so sad.

I'm a Boom radio fan too. Gave up on BBC Radio after Terry wogan left. Would never go back now .

here in BBC 3cr area (three counties: herts, bucks, beds) we lost our saturday morning quiz show Treasure Quest. So sad - nothing now to look forward to.

Do others find it odd that Andrew Castle has simply disappeared. There appears to be a complete black out which is strange & slightly sinister. I completely respect a person's right to privacy but I worry when the media exerts blanket control.
