Good Morning Wednesday 24th January 2024

Good morning all from a showery Glasgow, where it is 10°C. At least the wind has died down, it was pretty scary at bedtime last night.

After falling asleep at 2am, I was wakened by a loud thump. I turned to say to DH, but he was nowhere to be seen. I then realised he had fallen out of bed. 😱 In forty six years of married life this has never happened. Not only had he fallen, he had knocked over a glass of water.
Fortunately, he wasn't hurt, ( well padded) just shocked. Of course all the lights were put on, as he cleared up the mess.
Ten minutes later, he was fast asleep and snoring, while I lay awake for hours, trying to fall back to asleep. The air is rather frosty this morning. 😉

Lots of sadness and worry here today on the thread. GM, I am sorry to hear about your friend. I'm sure you will enjoy Greece, once you get there.

I don't plan to do much today. I went out yesterday, but felt unwell when I was shopping. I sat down beside a rough looking young man, as I was struggling. He asked if I was OK and offered to help me, saying his mum struggled to walk too. He was kindness itself. It lifted my spirits. It shows that you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover.

I hope all the leaks get sorted quickly and appointments and shopping trips go well.

So sorry to read of several people experiencing loss and distress and sending love and warmest thoughts to all.

DH and I are off to the cinema Gingster knows to see ‘One Life’. The cinema is over 100 years old and has been refurbished well so it retains its atmosphere with a choice of premier,cuddle or ordinary seats….the first 2 only available for the over 18s and 16s.

Hope those who had an amber warning haven’t suffered during the night.

Good morning from a blowy W Kent. The workmen are already here to change a fascia board at the back of the house, much thumping going on.
DF who was coming this morning has cancelled as her BIL has died and she has been left to deal with everything as the only one left of her generation, I know her son will help her with things.
Hope all goes well Mick and best wishes to all with problems and troubles.

Grey skies and a noisy wind this morning. Where is spring when you need it? Visit from local tech expert to set up new laptop and singing this afternoon, so a busy enough day. Sympathy to those losing friends, one of the many costs of getting old; life just contracts in a dismal way, and friends of many years cannot be replaced.

Good morning from a dry (now) Oxfordshire, I woke up at 2.30. when the gales and rain made themselves known to my bedroom window and couldn’t get back to sleep, so I’ll be pretty useless for much of the day.
Dog will be here soon, we haven’t seen her since last week as we haven’t been well enough to take her out, I’ll do the walks today as MrOops still isn’t very well.
Oil delivery as well so I must remember to unlock the gates.

Started packing yesterday, we have 2 birthday parties at a rented holiday home for between 9 and 18 people on various days of the week, I seem to be taking most of my kitchen equipment and half of the winter clothes in the wardrobe ( for beach walks) along with small items like spices and bits from the pantry so that we can cook without realising we haven’t got a teaspoon of a certain spice. Although Sainsburys are delivering they only allow 50 items which I didn’t realise until Monday, so more food to take. Plus party stuff and so much more on my lists. Let’s hope the kitchen is well stocked with implements.

Its so sad to hear of more deaths of friends, I suppose we have to get used to it, but it’s hard.

Yesterday was spent sorting out my yarn stash and culling more books. Today will be the turn of games, jigsaws and possibly crafting stuff.

Yoga has been cancelled due to the weather, the teacher was worried about the possibility of disruption to travel as she doesn’t live in the town.

Good morning mick and all..I dont post often but always read ..and I think of all of you ..especially those going through hard times...my younger sister and i are each other's crutches at the moment..her H in the hospice on end of life care...and my H being pulled more and more into his own world ..Alzheimer's/dementia...but we just have to wade through dont we...and appreciate the happy moments

Morning all from a still dark West Oxfordshire. I think it’s dry.
After breakfast I’m off to a craft place near Reading where I will start a one day a week, six week course on stained glass. I did a one day course nearby a while ago and was very pleased with the result. I made a garden ornament. While I’m out OH will hoover through the house and finish what I started yesterday!

Good morning from Cornwall where it's calm and mild at the moment.

Stayed in yesterday after finding a leak in my kitchen, so the freezer needed moving and a large towel was installed under a copper water pipe. My landlord is organising a plumber. I spent the rest of the day lounging around and listening to The Happiest Man On Earth by Eddie Jaku, a holocaust survivor who lived to be 101. Hard to hear the details of his time in the concentration camps, but an amazing book.

Today I won't go far as I await the plumber's visit, but will pop out to the library and grab a coffee at the nearby pasty shop.

I must get myself out for some walking exercise, I climbed up and down the stairs several times in a row yesterday but it is not at all as good as being outside. I did too much sitting yesterday and dozed on and off in the evening. I blame the log burner but really my body said to slow down and I listened

Back to normal today and a veg soup to make first, also skirtings to dust later and a sewing room to tidy

It is sad news about the loss of yet another friend, grandMattie. I hope you will enjoy your break with the family and won’t mind coming home earlier than them when the time comes.. Could you go on somewhere else perhaps?

A busy day yesterday culminating in a convivial evening with my upstairs neighbour and good friend. I am blessed with good neighbours around me in our block of seven flats.

Sorry to hear about you losing another friend GrandMattie I’m honestly wondering where all my friends have gone to a yr after my dh passed. They do speak to me still but it’s always me who instigates the conversations can anyone tell me is this how it is ?

I’m grateful for the lovely carers who visit me 4 times a day because today I’m going to look out my holiday clothes, the day for me flying off to Tenerife will soon be here where I’m going to meet up with an old friend who I met on this forum and we’re going to have fun.

I noticed that the snowdrops are coming into flower yesterday, I also have crocuses, primroses and primulas out! It’s so uplifting to see the first signs of Spring, isn’t it?

My problems seem trivial alongside all this sadness but my decorating has hit a snag when the painter discovered a large wet patch on the wall. We now have to find out if it’s a leaky pipe or something coming from the adjacent property. All adding more anxiety not to mention €€€€€€ to my bill, plus the fact that I feel I’m living in an episode of Steptoe and Son with furniture and clutter taking up half the flat.

I’m just off to DD3’s as she’s well enough to return to work today so I’m on duty with my two treasures. They will cheer me up as always.😍

Good morning from Bristol. It looks calm though damp out.
Yesterday was quiet. The painter carried on with his work, I was sewing a lot of the time, but had a bad headache most of the day. These are largely due to my bad eyesight.
I got a call from my old friend’s stepdaughter to say she had died in the night. Sad but not unexpected; the third death in three weeks 😢
Today, after a few small jobs, the painter will turn handyman, put up pictures, do some fetching and carrying, etc.,possibly put up my last IKEA cupboard.
DD has booked me in for a holiday in Greece with them after Easter. Ambivalent as I’m spending 4 days to their 10, being packed off home.
Hope today bring some peace to those in distress, Urms, baggs, kalu, Marydoll…. Carpe diem 🦩🦩🦩🦩
