Chatting away this morning with same age-ish group, someone asked "how old do you feel"? Not one of us felt over 30, I said 13.
I have just done an online quiz (for fun) on the site How Stuff Works and my brain age is 19. Should I get up later, game all day and party 'till the early hours......
I’m with Monica not any particular age at all, just me.
Interesting MOnica. Do you think when your body dies something of the “core self” will remain, as a soul for example?
I am still the person I was at 17. More knowledgeable, more experienced, but in essentials the same .
When I was about 19 I actually had the conversation we are having now with the local vicars wife, part of the vicarage was let out as a flat to students, and she managed it, and I said then what I say now, that my sense of self does not have any age.
Nothing that has happened since has changed that. However, it doesn't mean that my opinions beliefs and everything else have not cchanged over the years - and change still. But the core processor hasn't changed.
Thanks MOnica and V3ra. I also can’t comprehend what it is to feel a particular age.
sense of self and inner self can be tricky. I know what it is subjectively like to be “me”, but what is this “me” and is this me unchanging over time? I think I’ve evolved and I’m not the same person I was at 17 for instance.
Many scientists and philosophers believe the “self” is an illusion, a collection of multiple thought processes, although we have strong feelings that self is real.
An altogether different discussion I think.
On a good day I feel 17. On a bad one, older than my years 😆
I think my brain feels 17 - and has been stuck there, pretending to be adult, ever since. My body feels a bit old lately, though, as I get tired easily, feel the cold, need more rest, can't lift heavy weights or keep going all day long. That's not too bad for 70, I suppose. I asked the chemist for some Codeine (handy for back or tooth pain) and he wanted a list of my medications - what medications?
I am interested in what you mean by “essence” MOnica?
I think of it as my "inner self," that part of me that doesn't change no matter what outer changes occur over time.
Frazanah I mean my sense of myself.
In my turn I cannot comrehend how anyone can feel a particular age.
I’m just slowly getting over an infection still not feeling well so feel older than my age (70) today but generally I still work 2 days, do some volunteering, do a class every week and meet friends so usually feel younger physically and much younger mentally.
My grandaughters think I’m a fun Granny so that’s great although this week because I was ill DD1 said” don’t do anything mum just rest, remember you ARE 70” Bless her nothing like your children for making you feel old! She was worrying about me though !
I love a go on a swing too, we have two in our garden.

I do not feel any particular age at all, and never have.
The essence of who or what I am is there and has never changed.
Fascinating question and answers.

Hope you feel well soon Purplepixie, thinkink of you
I am 81 years old and feel 21. I can still jive to my rock n roll music, You should see me in the garden wearing my ear buds playing my 60's music, bopping around with the brush. My problem is because I feel so young. Wallis is my go to store, classic, stylish but not frumpy. I still buy jewellery and perfume and I will have to have a clear out soon to get rid of some clothes I haven't worn for ages to make way for new things I have bought. Long live rock n roll.
I am 75, I've been fit and active, I know most people think I look "young" for my age. However on 5th December I had a serious accident and I feel very fortunate to be alive. I've been quite ill and in a great deal of pain, tbh I have felt every bit my age. What I've realised is that if you are fortunate to have good health, then feeling younger than you are is an added bonus but it's a precarious and very precious thing as "good health" can be lost so easily. I'm getting better and starting to feel more like my "old" self. I certainly won't take my good health for granted!
I felt young at heart and confident at forty when I remarried. Health problems have slowly ground me down physically. My family health issues have suddenly come out of the blue and worry me too.
At sixty seven I realise you are happy when you don’t have something to worry about. Health and other worries are aging but I for one try to keep young at heart so I keep telling myself.
Look after yourself Purplepixie and anyone after surgery or illness. Don’t try too hard look after yourself you will benefit from a lot of rest.
In my dreams I am 17 again and have just met my soon to be DH. The reality is that I am his 77yo Widow, living alone with various health problems and becoming a burden, rather than a help, to my family. Also during January I have lost 4 friends around my age or younger.
I have always felt depressed during January &February, so am hoping that come springtime I will feel more positive.
Thank you so much. Each day as it comes.
Wishing you a speedy recovery Purplepixie.
Today I feel about 200! Just got home last night after a hysterectomy. Baby steps as they say and I want to run before I can crawl. So far even the crawl sounds adventurous. In my head I am only about 30.
About a hundred in the middle of the night, I flung my arm wide in my sleep and knocked the clock off the bedside table. About 5 if anyone other than DH who slept on had seen me with a torch looking under the bed for the battery etc. Then I was back to I00 when I had to get up off all fours. Creaky knees and joints are catching up with me as I can't go for a walk because of my hip.

I feel exactly the same as you M.
And every year is a bonus, for which I am very thankful.
I feel in my head very young and naive still.
I feel in my body pretty much older than my years with the list of complaints that I am acquiring.
Too right Grannynannywanny our minds can be as young as we feel but our bodies never are and they take a long time to repair! I might be dancing in my head but my feet are sadly planted on the ground in sensible shoes
. I never stand on any thing other than my sturdy steps btw, better to be safe than sorry!
I tend to forget my 70 yr old body isn’t as agile as it was even a couple of years ago. The felt blew off my garden shed roof during the storm and the rain is dripping in.
3 years ago when the same thing happened I was able to buy and fit replacement felt and wood trim and fix it myself. I was fully intending to have a go at it today. But after struggling to stand on a kitchen chair to reach a cupboard last night and feeling unsteady in the process I’m going to have to admit defeat and delegate the shed roof repair.
I often have a quick go on the swings when I'm over there believing its good exercise for my knees..... all that bending to gain momentum!!! 😅🤣
Oh travelsafar that sounds fun, long may you swing!
No spring in my step anymore. I miss that. I watch the teenagers enviously as they leap about.
I am probably much as you'd expect a 75yr old to be.
I couldn't imagine getting to this age and now I have
Happy birthday CC 🎂
