Good morning everyone from a bright and frosty Northampton, 3°C outside. We will have wonderful weather, perfect for our rugby match this afternoon.
Yesterday was a sad but joyful day as we said goodbye to my dear Brother-in-law. In glorious weather his coffin draped with a Union Flag was carried into the church by pall-bearers from the nearby RAF Station, a full honour guard to celebrate his 34 years in the service.
The church was packed with family, friends and ex-colleagues from far and wide. My retired priest brother gave the eulogy, and the service was interspersed with recordings of my late DB-in-law playing his guitar; he was a talented guitarist.
After a family burial in his local churchyard, we repaired to a local hotel for a lovely get-together, much of which was spent catching up with my many relatives who were there; brother, sister and their other halves, nieces, nephews and their partners and great-nieces and nephews, and even the first husband of one of my sisters, ( who I hadn't seen since the mid 80s). Many toasts were drunk to my DBrother-in-law 's memory. A sad day but much rejoicing as we celebrated a life well lived.
A beef casserole to get into the slow cooker this morning, then out to rugby after lunch; will need to wrap up warm. I shall be going with my recently bereaved neighbour as per usual - he wants to do something normal.
Hope today turns out well for all.
