Have any of you seen the car sticker that says, "I love my grandchildren - I wish I'd had them first."

I am somewhat baffled that people love to varying degrees

That’s one of the strangest statements I’ve ever heard.

I love my children, grandchildren, my cat, my husband, my best friend, my sister, etc etc etc, but not all to the same degree confused

My mum said that the grandchildren were the icing but I was still the cake.
I feel the same about my daughters and grandchildren.
Sums it up well.

I am somewhat baffled that people love to varying degrees. I love all my children and all my grandchildren whole heartedly.

I don't understand how anyone can love a grandchild more than the child they bore, birthed and brought up.

This is just my own personal feelings. It's deep in my heart.

I love my grandchild very much but the love I have had for my son from the moment he was born is like no other.

Daultsmom yes it is the most wonderful thing to happen and I can feel your excitement. I don't want to be the bad fairy at the party but just be a tiny bit prepared for the ups and downs of life with grandchildren. It is not the same as with your own children as you find you don't have any control over what happens to them. Enjoy it all for now.

I'm with NotSpagetti. My grandchildren have been a huge wonderful bonus in my life and I adore them, but not as much as my own children, not quite.

Daultsmom, yes I can say I feel the same as you.

My first grandchild was born almost 13 years ago and I was fortunate enough to be present at her birth.

Watching my DD2 give birth to her own precious little girl was one of the most joyful moments of my life and I’ve been lucky to have a very strong bond with my granddaughter despite 6,000 miles separating us.

Almost two years ago, DD3 gave birth to twin boys who were seven weeks premature and had to fight for survival.

I’ve been looking after them five days a week since they were nine months old and I love them so much. I’m sad my husband isn’t alive to see them, he adored his granddaughter and I know how thrilled he would be with these two angels.

My love for them is different from the love I have for my own four children but it’s just as strong.

Never knew what a blessing it would be to become a Nana.🥰

I know how you feel!
It’s such a joy.
I watch videos and look at pictures of my two before I go to sleep.
Our little grandson of 3 was talking to me on the phone and said “I’ve got a stegosaurus it’s green, I love you”.
I would do anything for my two beautiful grandchildren.

I feel exactly the same as NotSpaghetti
I love my grandchildren but nowhere near as much as I love my own children.

NotSpaghetti Tue 30-Jan-24 09:25:29

I could not love my grandchildren more than their parents but do recognise the love my children have in their eyes for their children and how very privileged I feel.

My heart bursts with their joy.

My love for my own adult children is the strongest and I love them with all my heart - my love for my grandchildren is because they are the joys of my children - and yes I love them dearly but that doesn't surpass the love of my "own".

He's so amazing and watching the love in my son's face every time he looks at his son is just so incredible.

I feel exactly the same. DH and I were discussing this he other day. My middle son was a very quiet person, who rarely showed affection or his feelings. His teachers used to say, he would die of embarrassment if asked a question.

I don't recognise him, since his daughter was born nine months ago. He is besotted with her and has become much more affectionate with the rest of the family.

The love I feel for both granddaughter's is overwhelming, different from that I feel for their parents, my boys. My usually reticent DH feels exactly the same. It is such a joyful feeling. 💕

I'm a first-time grandparent. My only child, my son has become a father to in my opinion, the most beautiful child on the planet (I know we all feel that way about our grandchildren).
I just never knew anyone could love another person as much as I love my new grandson. I LOVE my son, but this is such a different, overwhelming love. I get teary eyed every time I hold this little boy. He's so amazing and watching the love in my son's face every time he looks at his son is just so incredible.
I thank my son and DIL every time I spend time with them for allowing me to be with them.
I am babbling now, so I'll stop...I just wanted to share this. I just never knew anyone could feel this much love!
Blessings to All!
