On a recent visit to a churchyard I noticed the following on a headstone “He tried to be kind”
Have to say it made me smile.😊

I intend to leave directions and the wherewithal to pay for it, that my full name, date of birth and date of death shall be added to my husband's headstone, under his name and dates.

I shall be paying for the stone this spring when the grave has settled and for his inscription and will place a similar amount in my pre-paid funeral plan.

'She was OK' would suit me nicely (not that I'm having one!)

Though not religious I love the quietness of an old churchyard. I often sit quietly on a bench it’s very peaceful.

I would rather like a bench with a view of the sea or countryside perhaps.
As for what is put on the stone or the bench would leave that up to my family.
On that note this is something which hasn’t been mentioned so perhaps now it’s time it was.

I'd absolutely agree. Despite my previous post, I really don't want to be anywhere near a churchyard. I always wanted to be buried but now I really don't! Scatter my ashes by the sea and remember me that way. My family know all my favourite places.

I always like Dorothy parker 'If you can read this you're standing too close'

I won’t be having a headstone.

If I did then they could put “The girl just wanted to have fun”

Most of my life has been anything but.

I'll take John Gay's:-

Life is a jest, and all things show it;
I thought so once, and now I know it.

No headstone for me, our AC know where I want my ashes to be scattered.

Don’t want to detract from the humour - my husband wanted to be buried and died after we booked the woodland burial ground in a spot close to home but, before we discussed headstones.
There aren’t headstones, just a simple slate fitted into the ground. His says name - dates - A truly lovely man
Because he really was 💙🙏🏽

Lovely indeed 💐

I've always said mine would read

"Finally Found Her Keys"

I can imagine a not-too-distant future one saying, ‘Finally off his/her phone.’

No headstone for me, cremation and ashes scattered with my late husband in the garden of remembrance.

I have always enjoyed visiting grave yards from my childhood. I felt so sad for the people who died young. I recall renewing my paternal grand dad’s grave and more recently I found my maternal grand dad’s grave in Anfields huge cemetery in Liverpool. So anonymous and now not one of the family lives in UK. People doing family history are generally interested in graves of their family.

I like that Iam64. It’s the most valuable legacy we can have really. That we were loved by those who knew us best.

To be honest, I won't have a headstone, I will be cremated and my ashes will be scattered in Devon, next to a railway line near the sea along with my late husband's ashes and our two German Shepherd dogs ashes, there will be a dust storm that day. My husband was a rail enthusiast and I liked the sea so he will forever watch the trains go by every day and I will watch the sea come and go. My idea of everlasting peace.

'Point me towards the nearest star.'
I saw this years ago in a book by James Herbert.
