On a recent visit to a churchyard I noticed the following on a headstone “He tried to be kind”
Have to say it made me smile.😊

I want my ashes interred in the grave where my parents are buried in a quiet, peaceful country church yard.
Their inscription reads- Safe in Gods keeping- that will do me.

My husband believes he has a family curse.
So his will say “He tried so hard but never succeed because of his family curse”.

Mine will be “Take my breath away” which incidentally is the song played in the hotel when I first met my husband.

If I had a gravestone then I'd like it to say:

She never bought a scratchcard or watched the Titanic.

or

I dare you to come back alone at midnight and lie quietly on my grave for 30 minutes in the dark. Don't forget I'll be under you but you won't see me until...

If I'm buried, I'd like some, possibly 4, strings attached to my toes and fingers, leading to bells above ground, incase I'm just in a really deep sleep!! Lol

If I had had a headstone I’d like it to say “forever loved” by her family

" Epipens were in my handbag ! "
Friends and family know where my epipens are as I have had numerous anaphylactic shocks. But if I die from anaphylaxis then someone didn't reach them or know where there were.
Not being buried so no headstone required. Ashes to be put in the sea off Irish coast.

Since I won't be there to approve or otherwise, I'll leave it to my family to arrange a suitable inscription.

"If you're reading this, you're standing on me. Stop standing on me, asshole."

Are we nearly there yet?

I used to feel like you DamaskRose, but over the years , as my love of the countryside has become more informed, studying lanscape history and archaeology, the more I want to become part of that landscape. I am hoping I can be buried in the country churchyard whose church I ahve worshipped at for over 30 years. I want a wicker coffin and a tombstone so that i can become part of the lanscape I have studied and love so much.

No funeral, cremation, no headstone, ashes scattered in flowing water.

“She loved, and was loved.”

At the end of the day that’s all that’s really important to me.

Redhead56 Thu 15-Feb-24 12:37:59

It would probably be ‘natural redhead and the temper to go with it’ However I have told my family I want a simple cremation no service pomp or ceremony.

Spuddy Thu 15-Feb-24 09:57:18

HA HA HA! That's a good one! I'm Atheist too!

Spuddy Thu 15-Feb-24 09:56:02

As I don't like heat I want ''It's very hot down here so can someone please open a window?!''

Then I'd like someone dressed as the Grim Reaper standing by my grave and playing Another one bites the dust!

Sarnia Thu 15-Feb-24 09:51:56

None the bloody wiser!

Grantanow Thu 15-Feb-24 09:44:21

Not dead yet!

Oreo Wed 14-Feb-24 17:38:55

Mum’s would be ‘are you wearing your vest?’
Mine would be ‘are you stopping for a cuppa?’

I will be happy with name (including maiden name and dates..

DH says if I go first my gravestone will have the word 'Why?' engraved on it because he says it the word I use most.

It is just that I like to know why, I have to do anything, he has to do anything, why things have broken down and so on, and so on.

sharon103 Wed 14-Feb-24 14:20:34

Peace at Last! smile

Shinamae Wed 14-Feb-24 14:03:58

I won’t be having a headstone as I am being burnt, but if I did have one, I would like it to say this.

Shinamae Wed 14-Feb-24 13:58:36

I was hoping for a pyramid
🙃

Grammaretto Wed 14-Feb-24 13:46:07

Cast a cold eye
On life, on death
Horseman pass by!

This is the ambiguous epitaph on W B Yeats gravestone in Drumcliff, County Sligo
I've always liked it. My gt grand parents are buried a few stones away.

DH wanted his name added to an old family stone in his favourite churchyard. I tried to ask permission but was told to just do it incase it was refused. I went ahead and it's there. He'd be pleased 😀
