Grandchildren addicted to this very old toy!

My mum had a Bagatelle - spent many hours playing with it. Great fun.

Mine love dominoes (5s&8s) and cribbage

I knew it as Bagatelle and we loved it as children. Food for thought for when my grandchildren are a little older, thank you !

What a wonderful toy that was, and you are right Just Widowed - it probably wouldn't be considered safe now as someone would decide you could poke your eye leaning over the bases. I had a fairly large set, and gave it to a younger cousin. We both have intact eyes.

My Gparents had a bagatelle board. We cousins had a league table which ran over the years as various families visited. No idea what happened to the board sadly.

My Dad made us a shove ha'penny board which got a lot of use, especially on rainy Sundays.

My Gcn like playing with the tiddlywinks. and I just found a bag of Jacks in a charity shop the other day so they are ready for half-term.

We brought this one from my mum’s after she died. MrM did it up with one of our grandchildren. New nails, rub down, varnish. All new and lovely. The grandchildren love playing with it and yes, it’s good for adding up scores, so good for maths.

I've still got DH's Bayko set in an old suitcase. Sadly none of our children or grandchildren have been interested. The big hit at Christmas for my 10 year old grandson was one of those little Dymo printers, which he used to put labels on everything in the house.

Bagatelle - we had one as children 60+ years ago. My grandad made it!

Bagatelle. My sister and I played for hours as children. I bought a new one when my grandchildren came along. We all love playing, both adults and children alike.

We had exactly the same one when we were growing up, I'm 70 now, it belonged to my father so it would have been very old indeed. I think my sister still has it but my granchildren have sadly not had the chance to play with it.

We had a Bagatelle that my Dad made, it was lovely. My friend has one & we played it with her grandchildren, which was fun.
We had Bayko too - I loved designing the houses.
My great aunt had a Shove ha’penny which we children always played with on visits to see her.

Yes LovesBach I had a Bayko set and enjoyed building with it. There were metal rods to put in the base which held the bricks in place.

I’ve just taught my young teenage grandson to play Crib. He’s now addicted and getting the ancient crib board out as soon as he visits. I hope he shares his knowledge with his friends as it’s also great for mental arithmetic.

My daughter loved my Mums Bagatelle so much she had it made into a coffee table. Now she has children of her own they want to play with it but it under safety glass so they can’t. Rather a shame really

My MiL had one, and lots of other toys like this, for the grandchildren. It presumably went where a lot of things ended up, with my BiL who resented everything that went elsewhere. Bitter? Moi? Actually no, not anymore, because it says more about him …

We called ours Bagatelle which we still have.

Gosh, Baykp building set. I had one, passed to me from my older brother, long before Lego. I absolutely loved building stables for my imaginary ponies.

I bought one from a company called ‘House of Marbles’

I miss the Past Times shops too.

I remember that our bagatelle board had a springy thing at the side that fired the marble off around the board!

We had one with the spring which shot the marbles round when I was young, it was great fun.

My mother was a great declutterer so no toys remain from those days.

I’ve got a houseful of toys of various ages for the grandchildren to pla with ( even though they rarely come her) but I never thought to get the bagatelle board from out of the loft! I’ve got some Bayko, too: that would never pass health and safety now!

I have a bagatelle board, I think it’s on top of the wardrobe at the moment! I must get it down, I’m sure the grandchildren would like to play with it. Mine came from Past Times and I remember it was quite expensive.

LovesBach, I've still got my Bayko set, well what's left of it. Up in the loft, spent many happy hours making houses with bay windows.

Is it a bagatelle (prototype pinball) or a shoveha'penny? We had both from my grandfather but goodness knows who has them now.
