To not flush the loo when its raining!

Congrats to the angry lady in Kent, making a big stand refusing to pay water bills while the sea she likes to swim in is so frequently a bit too brown for her liking? Also a Lewes angler, similar thing. And they've now got quite a like-minded crowd behind them.

Or keep it in a big bucket and drop it round to Number 10 every now and again ?! 🤭🤭

Houses should not be built on flood plains for sure but new developments do not contribute to flooding because the have sustainable rainfall moderation with stabilizer lakes that release water slowly into the rivers. Even new roads have balancing ponds to slow rainfall flow

It’s older properties that have no protection at all that cause sudden floods, however the main cause it heavier rainfall that we seem to get these days

Obviously the more water that goes down the drains adds to load of water that has to eventually go into swollen rivers. There are no sewage reservoirs within a few hours it goes through the sewage works into rivers or sea on some cases, so yes, not flushing or washing will help but a more sensible aim is “don’t waste water”

We are into day 3 and counting of sewage overflowing here in our town. It happens frequently for whatever reason, and I am not voting for our MP because nothing ever gets done.

Excess fat/grease was wiped off the plates/pans and any fatty liquids went in jars, then in black bin. Common sense we thought so why do folk think any thing other than loo paper and dodahs can be shoved down the pipes?

Yes, shocking, isn't it!
I've heard of systems blocked with disposable nappies!
We wipe out pans with paper and it goes in the bin.

Callistemon, I was referring to the actual drains on peoples property. If none of us flush because its raining heavily there will surely be a build up of loo paper as well as other 'matter' in the toilet which could lead to a blockage because it might not go round the u-bend when we can flush.

Yes, I did get it.

Then if we all flushed when it stopped raining it might go down the loos and block the drains.

People put all kinds of things down loos which they shouldn't as well.

The worst time to flush the loo is during a halftime break of a football game on tv, when half the nation jumps up to go potty at once!

Oh dear. This could be very simply solved. If there is a possibility of masses of toilet paper blocking the pipes then you could easily use a j-cloth cut up and then rinse it and dry it. More environmentally friendly anyway. These are really not difficult problems.

They're not, partly here because shipping doesn't go up the river any longer and it was the shipping companies which paid to have the river dredged.

Silt is washed down river and settles, flood plains are built on and manure from intensive farming is washed into rivers, turning them into sewage dumps.

I think if I sat on a po on the floor I’d have trouble getting up again. If I put the po on a chair I’d have trouble getting onto it.
Thank goodness the loo’s not far.

Drains aren't being kept clear of leaves and debris and I think that contributes to the flooding. Stands to reason really, doesn't it.
