Sacrilege!
Mind you so is Golden Syrup in a plastic bottle IMO - dh once got a bit of a mouthful for buying that instead of GS in a Proper Tin!
As least you can get the last remains out of a tin.
But you can't put it in a microwave...

Just saw this on TV. I have a tin in my cupboard and will keep it for ever now.
I can vividly remember the day our teacher at primary school told us the story of Samson and the dead lion on the tin with bees buzzing around him.
Our little school had just 3 classrooms. I was in the middle room so it must have been about 1961/62. It was a sunny day and our teacher stood with his back to the window. The sun shone in over his head and I could see trees in the background. He held up a tin of the syrup which he had borrowed from our school kitchen and pointed out the lion. He then told us the story and I remember telling my Mum about it when I went home.
Now it’s going because it may offend some snowflakes and we are having just a lion’s face that looks like a cartoon instead.

The poor dears who find it so awful shouldn’t look at it then. Concentrate on what’s inside and leave tradition alone fgs!
No need for alarm. The rotting carcass will remain on the syrup tin.
Lyles are rebranding after 150 years. That's the story.
GB News, Express and Mail choose to use the word 'woke'. Why? Were there complaints about picture of the rotting carcass of a lion with a swarm ofbees?

Who said anyone was traumatised?
Don't care.

I once set this as a homework for my RE class to the Year 7 pupils. They had to find, and name, the item with the lion and bees on it and tell me the Biblical quotation. Every single pupil came in with the homework done and we discussed the biblical quotation. Young though they were they understood that not all people use superior strength for the wrong reasons and that a strong, well-run society can make life 'sweet' for everyone. None of them were traumatised. Nor did I receive any parental complaints. The 'sweetness' derives from the fact that the bees made a hive in the lion and produced honey. I rather suspect that a good few of them convinced their parents they needed to buy the tin to do their homework and had an excuse to scoff the lot.
Common sense post at last. 👏👏 It’s been on tins since the 1880s and I have been aware of it all my life as my kids have all their lives. None of us are traumatised. 🤣🤣🤣
I feel like that comedian on TV who used to say “it’s a puppet” only I’m saying “it’s a drawing.”
This has been a talking point amongst friends of varying ages. I’d say at least 50%, and maybe more, had no idea the lion was dead! All these decades we have bimbled along thinking he was just a sleepy old lion having a nap.
I’ve now seen the new logo. It looks like an advert for the Lion King, not exactly distinctive.
I would still rather not have a rotting carcass on a tin of foodstuff.
Christian Concern. Eugh.
Andrea Williams, chief executive of Christian Concern, said: “The Bible is the source of hope and joy and what inspired the founders of the company to make the best syrup in the world. The signature verse of Tate and Lyle’s Golden Syrup points to the eternal.
“They have traded the enduring appeal of their brand for a momentary fad. It’s not worth it and is actually very sad.”
The Book of Judges details Samson killing a lion with his bare hands before returning to the carcass a few days later to find a swarm of bees had created a hive in its body.
In the story, Samson then took honey from the hive, and fed it to his parents without telling them where he got the honey from.
He later asks guests at his wedding to solve the riddle: “Out of the eater, something to eat; out of the strong, something sweet.”
A version of the riddle was chosen for the logo of Lyle’s Golden Syrup, and has remained on the tins ever since.
Greenfinch - yes, the tins remain as before.

As a child I never really thought of it as a dead lion, but rather sleeping peacefully, not bothered by the bees. We were taught more of the New Testament. so I was not familiar with the tale of Sampson and the lion.
We called the syrup 'lion honey', and I don't think I have had it since I was a child. It was good on toast. It is available in some stores here.
Barely noticed it, a tin is a tin is a tin. I think it is worth keeping simply because it has lasted so long, (introduced in 1888).
As for all this wokery nonsense. I think it being overplayed. The old logo does look dated and it was designed for a particular size container made form a specific material. I see no reason why they shouldn't decide that they needed a different logo when selling the products in other types of containers. I liek the new logo.

Quite, m'am......... You nailed it.
Having avoided syrup for many years because of the calorific content , I was , a few years ago, unusually trying to regain a little weight after an operation and treated myself to porridge with syrup.
Oh.......My.........G........
If anyone's interested.....

Thank you for your kind and knowledgable comment Freya very nice !!!!
Totally missed this. Sounds disgusting.
I always thought it was a dead lion surrounded by flies! 🤣
I could never understand why the dead lion is on the side of a golden syrup tin and not a jar of honey. 🤫
BlueBelle
I abhor the words ‘woke’ and ‘snowflake’ they are usually hurled at people who have a heart
I never even looked close enough to know it was a dead lion with insects buzzing round it yuk yuk yuk I just thought it was a lion but now I know I m very glad they are getting rid of it horrible logo why would they want that
Whats the connection between a dead lion with insects round its body and Golden syrup ???
Google it. That will tell you.
I always thought the tins were impractical and awkward to use. On the one hand, it's a shame to see traditions dying because people have forgotten their origins but I can happily live without golden treacle so I won't be rushing to buy any next ttime I'm in the UK.
Just looked at the new design on the website and it seems to be mostly for the bottles. I do wonder if it is really to do with printing costs. The new logo is just two basic colours. The old lion has some pretty fine detail and needs at least 3.
Not sure it is coming off the tins. The new lion is only on the bottles
