In tears because of GD

I posted before and got some nasty replies. Hoping this subsection of the forum is kinder.
I have 2 granddaughters in very different scenarios yet they both still live at home at 31 and 39.
The 39 year old because she is single, on a low wage and can't afford to move out on a single salary where we live (London area) she also has autoimmune illnesses although they are controlled.
The 31 year old, works part time, has a partner and is in the process of buying a flat which we think will be accepted.
I posted before about my eldest GD acting difficult over the announcement that her sister was getting a flat. As in, she would stay upstairs and stay distant from the family. Well things have taken a turn for the worst. Her sister has also now got engaged as of yesterday, and we are of course overjoyed. Except, guess what. Her sister.
I went round yesterday and the whole family was overjoyed yet my eldest GD stayed in her room only briefly coming out to say hello. She didn't reply to the group text announcing it but apparently did send her sister an individual brief message. Today when I saw her she was civil but distant with me and it has just really upset me as feels like I am doing something wrong by being so happy for my youngest and the joy she is experiencing right now.

PS IF this is all true, what would you like us to say ? If we say what we think, you do an epic flounce, then pop up a few weeks later post-flounce, so clearly you want something from us - what is that, exactly?

OurKid1 Tue 12-Mar-24 08:03:30

YorkshireQueen Did someone in your book group advise you to introduce a cute little animal into your story?

Have you ever heard the phrase "They're not laughing (crying) with you; they're laughing (crying) at you?

I see the usual accusations are being thrown out again about me making it up. I am only going to say this. Eldest will be at home for the foreseeable, possibly forever. Her sisters flat got approved today, to cheer Eldest up, I said now I can buy her a cat (her sister dislikes them so Eldest has not been able to have one) she looked tearful and said she doesn't want one.
I tried but it seems I can't do anything right.

I hate to be the one to burst your bubble but you seem to be under the misapprehension that the majority of posters on this thread actually give a shit as to what your family do/ think when actually we dont

Why are you all still responding to this thread. Yorkshirequeen, whoever she/he is, must be glorying in your constant attention and how successful they have been.

Give it a rest Yorkshire queen it is tedious now. I think its all a nonsense. You leave it a while then come back with the dramatics.

The cat story makes no sense at all, as that means GD2 would never be able to visit her parents in their home again which seemed to be the major crux of the argument - that she didn’t feel welcome because of her older sister’s lack of enthusiasm for the whole flat/engagement palaver.

I think GD1 is missing a trick here. Rehome a cat and she need never see the golden child again.

What does “flat being approved” mean?

Best idea yet 😃

Wait---

Apart from the other obvious oddities -- who is "we"?

^Well the youngest is terrified of them so goes without saying doesn't it that WE couldn't have one in the house.^

Ooh, well spotted, Norah!

Germanshepherdsmum Mon 11-Mar-24 18:51:15

The whole story is weird. More so with every instalment. It seems to have taken a long time for this flat to be ‘approved’, whatever that means - I’m not sure the OP knows what it means.

Iam64 Mon 11-Mar-24 18:49:28

I’m waiting for most posters (including me) to be accused of being ‘nasty’.

By “flat approved”, do you mean offer accepted and mortgage approved?

The whole cat thing is nuts!

That's why I asked as it seems an odd expression to use when buying a property.

Ladyleftfieldlover Mon 11-Mar-24 18:36:32

Made-up nonsense.

Yes please end it I don’t think we can take any more of this drama which probably is only in your mind

Now she can she doesn't want one as she has apparently also said that it means that we all think she is going to be at home forever and not have a chance of moving into a flat of her own one day because if we did think that then we wouldn't be suggesting getting a cat. As I said, can't do right for doing wrong.
I am just getting backlash at everything I post so I will end this here.

Ok - end it here. It’s not quite the dramatic comedy you perhaps intended 🐕🐶🐻‍❄️😹

So the younger one vetoed the elder one having a cat - seems like it’s the younger one getting preferential treatment all the way no wonder she’s depressed.

pascal30 Mon 11-Mar-24 18:03:21

here we go again.. a cat now..

OMG eldest couldn’t have a cat because youngest doesn’t like them and you still don’t see it for goodness sake open your eyes
Please don’t let this be real

So she couldn't even have a cat just because her sister 'dislikes them'? Not because she has an allergy or a genuine phobia, but just 'doesnt like them'? If that's the case, I'm not surprised eldest doesn't want one now - too little, too late!
If only you all paid as much attention to your eldest granddaughter's feelings as you do to those of her sister.

Smileless2012 Mon 11-Mar-24 17:51:11

Being there for her, telling her you love her and are proud of her will be the right thing to do.

Why do folk interfere so much in others lives?
