“ Hi Mum! Its Mothers Day this Sunday. We could come round for dinner at yours and invite the others. Love YDS”

Carenza123 Mon 04-Mar-24 08:59:07

Not in the spirit ofMother’s Day!

Cossy Mon 04-Mar-24 08:59:29

Littleannie

It's better than the text my son sent me last Mother's Day which said 'why don't you die mother. The sooner you're dead the better as nobody will miss you'.

You cannot be serious!! 😱😱🫣🫣

sodapop Mon 04-Mar-24 09:03:36

So sorry Littleannie that's horrible, I hope things are better this year.

I would book a table somewhere CoolCoco enjoy the company without the hassle.

Whiff Mon 04-Mar-24 09:07:31

LittleAnnie I am so sorry you had that message . Unfortunately you aren't the only person on GN to be told by their child aren't you dead yet. Or the world will be better off without you in it. Your only have to read the support thread on estrangement forum.

Luckily my son hasn't done that but haven't had a mother's day card or any other cards since my birthday in 2020 when he cut me and our side of the family out of their lives.

Littleannie Mon 04-Mar-24 09:12:09

I'm afraid that message from my son is true. I have no contact with him now, nor do I want any.

lemsip Mon 04-Mar-24 09:27:46

Littleannie what ever had you said/done to be treated like that.

MissAdventure Mon 04-Mar-24 09:30:14

I don't imagine there is anything to warrant that text.

lemsip Mon 04-Mar-24 09:42:10

well of course, nothing would earn that wicked response. just meant must have been words in past.

MissAdventure Mon 04-Mar-24 09:43:31

Oh yes, I'd think so too.
What a day to receive that.
Just awful.

pascal30 Mon 04-Mar-24 09:48:06

I'd find the text funny and ask what time they're picking me up..

annodomini Mon 04-Mar-24 10:00:36

If it meant that I had the space in my house to host the whole family, I'd be delighted. I'd suggest that one lot brought a main course, a second, puddings and I'd provide the bubbly. After all, I'm the mum, but others in the family are now mums as well. This weekend, I'll be with family and my DiL and I will be the mothers.

Smileless2012 Mon 04-Mar-24 10:05:25

'Hello love, why don't we all meet up at yours and have dinner there?' would be my response if I didn't want to host, or suggest it it's at mine that everyone bring something and do a buffet.

Redhead56 Mon 04-Mar-24 10:08:54

I found going out on Mother’s Day a disappointment quite a few times. We ended up in overbooked restaurants bad service and very poor food.

I would prefer my family joined us and everyone got involved just being together is rare but the best. Even if it’s chaos with trays on knees that is my idea of Mother’s Day.

Callistemon21 Mon 04-Mar-24 10:10:09

Mothering Sunday is the day children in service went home to see their mothers (and back to the mother church).

Tell them it's Mothering Sunday, not Nother's Day and ask them what food they're bringing. Tell them you'll lay the table 😁

Glorianny Mon 04-Mar-24 10:10:33

Be lovely to see you. How thoughtful of you to organise everything. You know all my favourite things. Looking forward to being spoiled xx

Callistemon21 Mon 04-Mar-24 10:12:18

'Lovely. What time are your flights due in?'😢

Yes, precisely ☹

SporeRB Mon 04-Mar-24 11:02:51

I find that text quite funny, so my cheeky reply will be:-

Lovely! I am on strike on Mother’s Day, so don’t forget to bring the food.

If I have a nasty email from a son who wanted me dead sooner, my reply would be:-

‘OVER MY DEAD BODY !!!’ and I will change my will straight away.

My daughter will be taking me out for lunch at a fancy café with gothic décor in a gothic listed building and supposedly haunted on Friday to celebrate Mother’s Day

One of the advantages of being child free is that you dont get mixed up in this nonsense.

Jaxjacky Mon 04-Mar-24 11:21:07

I’d send back laughing emoji and txt ‘bring food and you’re clearing up’.
As it is, they’re taking us out to lunch.

I am happy to be mixed up in this nonsense. Each to his own!

dogsmother Mon 04-Mar-24 11:26:39

Kitchens closed, but I’m available to be taken out by all or any of you xx

merlotgran Mon 04-Mar-24 11:50:09

One advantage of downsizing is I no longer have the room for everyone to descend.

DD is taking me out for lunch on the Saturday because on Sunday she’ll be helping her son move house!!

I reckon I’ve got the better deal. 😂

Faierynan Mon 04-Mar-24 12:02:58

LittleAnnie: Dreadful, I do hope the cats or dogs home will benefit from any estate you have.

Nannynoodles Mon 04-Mar-24 12:08:57

The family tend to meet up at ours as we have the largest house and it just works better space wise.
For my recent birthday we ordered a takeaway from the local curry house which worked brilliantly, everyone ordered what they wanted and it accommodated the vegetarians, vegans and dairy intolerant without me having to think about it, with sorbet for desert - job done!!
Admittedly we did pay for it but hey-ho I’m glad they like coming and it means we don’t have to travel so not all bad.

Astitchintime Mon 04-Mar-24 12:14:28

"We could come round for dinner at yours and invite the others. Love YDS”

And my response would be................." It would be lovely to see you all on Sunday but make sure none of you duplicate any food items that you're bringing with you. I would suggest that you bring the starters, xxxx can brings the mains, and yyyy can bring the desserts. One of your lovely partners can organise the wine" . In a perfect world that would work. smile
