From all the tributes that have been paid to him, it seems Dave was very much as we saw him on television - a kind, warm and amusing person, doing a job he loved in the company of his close friend. Why anyone would want to undermine these memories by grousing about how much money he had is beyond me!

The financial info was sourced from Companies House so in the public domain. (Maybe read the article before sounding off).

Regarding another's criticism of how much digging must have been done to find how many properties were owned, Dave and Si seemed quite open in displaying their homes on social media so no huge investigative talents involved, just a Google search.

Don't exalt this rag with journalist type skills/sources it doesn't have.

On the BBC website all the daily papers headlines show as you scroll down so you can't help but see their front page. Whether you want to or not. The front page is bad enough. A friend and a relation are avid readers and sadly believe it all.

Because you can’t form a balanced view of what’s going on if you don’t dip into all the media sources available, particularly when somebody mentions a specific article, surely? Actually the Express is more right wing than the Mail, but less inclined to be a scandal-rag.

Well I had to look and see just how much the massive fortune was, there are plenty on GN worth as much, to be honest I would have expected a long standing celebrity to be more wealthy.

Also been reported in other newspapers but only 'shocking' ' disgraceful ' in the Daily Mail. I find it more inappropriate/ unnecessary to, for example, state ' the murder victim's parents live in a detached house worth £ x ert. What has that got to do with someone being killed? Also many newspapers have been reporting on Michael Gambon's will. No-one's business but those involved.

Oh, and for all those castigating the Press in general, that's a fair shout, with a lot of evidence. THERE IS a 'little' paper though, just has facts, or a pair of balanced opinions about assorted topics (so you can decide for yourself), and doesn't bother with pages of twaddle about the latest "Not quite a Z-lister, give me a payday", or "Love I'll land myself some fame and fortune" shows.

It's called the 'i', and you could give it a chance. SADLY there is a subset of folk in the UK who actually lap up the 'lowbrow' stuff, back in the day it was the News of the World, now lots of rags do similar. As a shrewd guy called H L Mencken said, some 90 to 100 years ago (?), "Nobody ever went broke under-estimating the taste of the American public" -- and that tendency came over here some, what, 30 years ago?

I wouldn't even use the Daily Mail for it's traditional use in the outhouse far less read it

Well, one of us has lost the plot - probably me, at my age. You refer to today's Daily Mail; I have scoured every page of said publication and cannot find any mention of DM. Inevitably most of the paper is about yesterday's Budget.
Please can you tell me the page number?

Why would anyone be surprised at anything the Daily Mail printed? It's a rag. Why read it?

The Daily Mail is just another tabloid rag but one which tries hard to fool people into thinking it’s a serious source of news. It’s surprising how many people fall for this deception too! I personally have never read it.

It wouldn’t have been any better on them whichever paper printed it first, because it’s that paper that does the research behind the article. In this case it probably would not have been a story at all if the Mail hadn’t done so - so they are culpable, as are the others which printed it to a lesser extent.

I think it does matter when it’s the main headline AreWeThereYet, yes. The Mail printed this story before any other papers and it was the main headline, the other papers then picked it up and did small features on it. They were wrong to do that (not all of them did) but the Mail was initially at fault. The poor man hadn’t even been buried.
