International women's day today.

My mum has been the most influential person in my life, and continues to be long after she’s gone.

For me it was my Nan, always there for me, fed me, clothed me and I felt loved in her company.
As a family we had very little money but my Nan went without for me and I miss her everyday.

My paternal Granny. A pint sized powerhouse, always on the go. She lived through 2 World Wars and the German Occupation of the Channel Islands. No labour saving gadgets just sleeves rolled up and hard slog. People today think they are wonderful recyclers but Granny's generations were masters at it. Sheets sides to middle, collars and cuffs turned on shirts, everything had to last as long as possible before ending up as dusters and floor cloths. With no NHS she had some weird and wonderful home remedies. She had no time for malingerers. If you could get out of bed then you could do a day's work. I know what she would think of life today!

I also really miss my Grandma .
I don't know how I would turned out without her .
I have some friends , who missed out on love and affection as children and they have been seriously affected .
She began to look after me when I was about 15 months old .
She did everything .
And she played with me .
We went on holiday together without my parents .
I used to pine for my mother , but when I was 13 her attitude towards me , which had always been cold turned hostile .
By the time , I had three children she had become so jealous and vindictive .Sadly ,I believe that she was mentally ill and the problem was never diagnosed nor treated .
My parent's marriage was a disaster from the beginning .
These days , they would have got divorced .
In those days , it was considered shameful .

So for me : Grandma was everything and I wish that I still had her .

My mother and maternal grandmother in positive ways, my paternal grandmother as a guide how not to be.

My Mum, who died when I was 17 and my brother 16. I miss her every day, although it’s a very long time ago. Sadly, the death of our Son in Law 7 weeks ago, has made me realise how dreadful it must have been for my dear maternal Grandparents way back 1967. We are taking one day at a time now and doing what we can to support our DD and teenage DGDs.

My paternal Gran. I think of her more and more as I grow older. She taught me so much about how to be Gran.

I never met any of my grandparents. I'm sure my mother did her best in difficult circumstances but she was a lesson in how NOT to bring up children. I've never had a woman who influenced me, unless you count how not to be. I suppose I am my own role model as I have been through so much c**p and I'm still standing. Just.

I can’t think of any women, my Dad had the most influence on me and is sorely missed.

International Women's Day.

Today I roar for women throughout the world who are not free. Women that have to conceal themselves in head to toe black, women who are raped, women who endure circumcision, women who can not, dare not, roar.

Today I roar for them, because I can...

There were a lot of single or widowed older women on the street I lived as a child. They worked very hard and were an important part if the community. I also had a female teacher who was a great influence on me.

Like many my Mum was very influential in my life. Still much loved and missed after over 30 years.
Many well know women who have stood up over the years for women’s rights .
I have to say that my 3 Daughters ( ages 39 - 45 ) have been and are influential in how I view and react to situations these days.

My maternal grandmother. A great role model to me and an inspiration in the kind of grandparent I strive to be to my grandchildren.
