I’ll be meeting up with my two daughters for a nice lunch. Looking forward to it.

Thank you crazyH. He was. We are all devastated but will do what we can, especially as it is DDs birthday very soon, which she shares with DGS2.

I have just opened DD’s card which she dropped off on Friday. In it she wrote that she couldn’t find the one she had bought, so used a pretty one in her stash, only to realise, once she had started to write it that it said Birthday. Duly crossed out and Mothering Sunday written in. I must have drilled it into them at an early age as they both apologise if they can’t find a MS one in the shops.

We have two sons, our older son has three children so they always do something special for our DIL who deserves it as she works so hard, he came to see me yesterday with the three grandchildren and they brought me cards and gifts and lots of hugs and kisses which was the best part, they are all taller than me now. We used to do something with our younger son’s in laws as we are very close to them but they are still grieving my DIL’s father and DIL is recovering from breast cancer so will be spending the day quietly with DIL’s mother, however son and DIL spent the afternoon with us yesterday and brought a card and gifts. I agree Mother’s Day has always been a big thing here, I remember buying my Mum flowers, freesias were her favourites or a brooch from Woolworths.

Going to dd later. I'm so sorry the day is difficult for those suffering bereavement or estrangement. On a ridiculous note and meaning no disrespect I've just opened the card my dog "made" at his creche this week, it has his pawprint on it.

Up2u I just saw your post. I know how you feel. My eldest has been up and down with me for a year now. I have helped her, driven all over the place for her and given her money but I don't do anything for her she says. Got nasty with me by text the other week and not heard from her since.

I won't see or receive anything from my eldest DD. We went to visit my youngest last weekend and she gave me a large gift bag and a lovely cushion with Mum on it. I haven't opened the bag but my DH looked in it and told me what was there. Needless to say I went mad with him the idiot. I will be going to put some flowers on my mums grave.

No plans. Not to put a downer on it for everyone. Eldest D and I don’t speak Second D lives miles away and doesn’t send cards or call. On the upside I did receive a card from son who also lives miles away. Told other half not to bother as I’m not his mum. Life goes on

Oh dear GrandmaSD - so sorry about your son-in-law . Was he DD1’s husband ? Make the best of tomorrow flowers

GrandmaSeaDragon Sat 09-Mar-24 23:38:23

We’ll be at DD1s home and will be joined by DD2s family for the day. It will be lovely to be together with our DGCs as well, but desperately sad too as our dear SonIL died suddenly and unexpectedly 7 weeks ago. Since the DGC came along, I always feel Mothering Sunday is for my DDs, rather than me now.

A combined Mothering Sunday and birthday (on the12th) dinner at DS sometime tomorrow but GC netball and football matches are away so it maybe a late one ! There is a card waiting from DD and no doubt a FaceTime but I am having a day trip to Norfolk to see her on Monday.

Lunch at my daughter's home. Already have flowers, a card and tin of strawberry and clotted cream shortbread from M&S from one of my sons. Hoping to get messages from the other two..... they don't do cards.

Mother’s Day was today for me as DGS is moving house tomorrow so the family will all be helping him.

We went to Mottisfont Abbey and gardens in Hampshire for a lovely walk and look around the house followed by lunch at a nearby pub.

I’m now enjoying a cup of tea with my feet up and Peggy on my lap.

Perfick!

My condolences, tanith

Definitely not a media invention. I remember us celebrating Mother's Day when I was a child. Although we do not have children, Mr J and I will join in the Mother's day service at our lovely village church tomorrow recognising those who are Mothers and lighting candles for our Mothers who are no longer with us. It will I am sure be an uplifting service as always.

tanith Sat 09-Mar-24 16:48:50

Thanks everyone, sorry I didn’t mean to spoil the joy of Mother’s Day.

Urmstongran Sat 09-Mar-24 16:48:27

💐 for you tanith.

Jaxjacky Sat 09-Mar-24 16:34:45

Sorry for the confusion, I rarely use these acronyms, now I know why.
Sad news tanith my condolences.

Maggymay Sat 09-Mar-24 16:10:55

Visiting my daughter who is doing a home made afternoon tea, looking forward to it.

kittylester Sat 09-Mar-24 15:37:15

I wondered too, urms.

Urmstongran Sat 09-Mar-24 15:35:37

Thanks for explaining Jax!

Greyduster Sat 09-Mar-24 15:28:27

Condolences Tanith💐. Very sad.

MayBee70 Sat 09-Mar-24 15:18:09

If I’m lucky I’ll get a card but I’m not holding my breath. Ever since my son has had children of his own he tends to ignore Mother’s Day. When he was at uni years ago he even used to arrange for his dad to deliver some flowers to me. Might get a card from my daughter.

Luckygirl3 Sat 09-Mar-24 15:11:31

Sorry to hear that Tanith. I hope you will all be able to find a moment to remember him.

M0nica Sat 09-Mar-24 14:58:21

Tanith condolences.
