I’ll be meeting up with my two daughters for a nice lunch. Looking forward to it.

Jax if it’s not insensitive to ask, what’s an SP daughter?

Mollygo Sat 09-Mar-24 09:58:32

I’ve just received a card and an afternoon tea in the post from the most distant daughter.
Flowers dropped off by more local family.
Our dog doesn’t know it’s Mother’s Day, so she will just say Don’t forget I need another run!

I’m dining out with my daughter and family. The day will be tinged with sadness as my close friend of over 40 years died suddenly 3 weeks ago. I miss her so much and I feel heartbroken for her children and young grandchildren who are reeling from the sudden loss of their lovely Mum and Gran.

Our daughter is taking me out for tea and she has booked tickets for There's Something About George at the theatre. It's about George Harrison. The poor girl is brainwashed! My own mother died 52 years ago. I hope everyone has a peaceful day.

DS and family will visit this afternoon.
DD is at her home in Belgium but sent flowers and left a card for me. SIL will come for his Sunday dinner and we will cook together. He lost his parents when he was young, his father when he was 16 and his mother when he was 18.

I tell ours I don’t want fuss but they always want to please us. We are seeing our daughter today and having lunch. Our son will see us tomorrow for a quick visit the rest of the day will include a nice home roast and Cava.

I will enjoy planting seeds and bulbs if the weather holds have a nice weekend everyone.

We are having a take out afternoon tea ( provided by a local tea room)
with the family. Having it at ours and I shall add a few bits of my own to it. When my mum died she had a lot of lovely linens that I had my pick of. One of them is a cloth with lovely spring flowers embroidered on it so I’ll fetch that out and feel that she is “with” us.

I am at present at my DD’s. We are going to see Lee Mack in a play in London this afternoon with dinner afterwards and tomorrow she is taking me for meditation in hammocks! My DS sent a card with a very heartfelt message.

My daughter will be here this afternoon for the weekend. I’ve booked lunch tomorrow at my favourite restaurant. I don’t usually hear from elder son, although he’s a brilliant off-piste present giver. Younger son often sends daffodils.

We’re at my daughters tomorrow with the grandchildren, she’s cooking lasagna, my son and his partner are taking dessert, all of us together, perfect, we had flowers delivered to my SP daughter today.
Originally we were going out, I’m glad that’s changed.

Son number 2 stayed over night Thursday and took me to lunch yesterday and has given me his card. Son number 1 is here with our grandchildren for the weekend brought flowers and card with him and is talking about cooking lunch tomorrow. I don't expect anything but always pleased whatever they do to mark it. I miss doing similar for my own mother, particularly choosing a card with a cat on it, cats were our shared passion.

My youngest son has offered to take me to the cinema in the afternoon, something we often do, and my eldest son wants to take me out for a meal in the evening. Whether I do either will depend on how my breathing is in the morning. I've requested no gifts but I know I'll get heartfelt cards because they both like writing them.

We met with DD2 her family and in laws and my friend on Thursday evening to hear the Halle and Craig Ogden in a Spanish evening of music. She then treated us to lunch the next day and then we came home. They have a big family aprty on Sunday for birthday glad to say we dont have to go. Pleased to say DD2 (she of the pre Xmas brain surgery) is doing very well and has her children and grandchild to lunch on Sunday with her SIL doing the cooking. I'm quite happy to have a Sunday at home with DH.

Going to live rugby this afternoon, then to DD's for take-away and overnight. Tomorrow, shopping with DD at Rushden Lakes!

Auntieflo Sat 09-Mar-24 09:29:19

Church in the morning. Then we are being picked up by our son in law and taken to their home, via his mum, who is also being picked up, and we are all together for the afternoon. Lovely!

kittylester Sat 09-Mar-24 09:29:03

Me too, Annie.

Hopefully, my daughters and daughters in law will be being spoilt. It's their turn. I know there is a joint present from them in DH's study.

DH and I are off to York to see DH's brother in hospital - he is very poorly.

Really hoping for a day of peace, quiet and gardening but DS will probably turn up with grand babies and I’ll end up looking after them again as I am this morning.

Sago Sat 09-Mar-24 09:23:26

Like Urms I have requested no fuss, I requested no cards, flowers etc, just a phone/video call.
We have one son overseas, our daughter and other son live hundreds of miles away so it’s not logistically possible to meet up.
Last year our granddaughters school did a Mothering Sunday service at her school, we drove up to surprise her as she was singing in the choir, we went out for a lunch afterwards.

I remember giving my Mother flowers in Church 70 years ago,
not media invention

biglouis Sat 09-Mar-24 09:18:36

Another of those media inventions which I can thenkfully opt out of.

M0nica Sat 09-Mar-24 09:18:15

None.I am in France packing up our holiday home to move out as we have sold it.

I expect there will be cards on the doormat (Royal Mail permitting) when we get home on Monday.

bridie54 Sat 09-Mar-24 09:15:19

I've got my card to open on Mothers Day which my daughter gave me before she left on holiday.

But I shall be trying out my new hair straighteners which she also gave me. I knew about them as she had me with her when she bought them. That was a very unexpected lovely surprise.

ginny Sat 09-Mar-24 09:11:08

Lunch with my 3 daughters and their children.
Menfolk will be going to their own mothers.

No fuss (by request). No flowers, no card. I know our two girls love me dearly. They show it in so very many ways. They don’t need a ‘Hallmark’ moment to demonstrate it. We plan our (back to usual and long may it continue) routine of picking up my 92 year old stepfather and the 3 of us enjoying Sunday lunch together. I always book a table mid week for which ever venue we’ve chosen so we aren’t disappointed (we were once, so not to be rested!) and last week, thinking ahead, I remembered it was MD and booked for tomorrow extra early! Probably a good job I did!

Enjoy your special day all mums - and of course it goes without saying that I recognise tomorrow will be a sad and difficult day for many to endure (for myriad reasons) and my heart goes out to any on here struggling with such emotions. Life can be hard and unfair can’t it?
