Expanding on a couple of comments made in other threads, I thought I'd start this one! Is there such a thing as life after death? Do you believe in ghosts? Have you been to a medium? Or is it all "twaddle". Respectful comments appreciated! šŸ¤—

I don't want to sound as if I'm doing a "oh yes me too" . But when my grandson was little we used to walk to the cemetery to place flowers for my husbands gran. He would help clean the stone and a few others too lol. Some one had put Christmas decoration on the grave. One piece took his fancy. Walking way I noticed he was holding it so made him put it back. He toddled over the grass and stood talking. Then said "thank you grandma .bye." when he got back to me he said "grandma said I could have this".

Many years ago my little 2 Yr old grandaughter who could speak very well , walked into the room where her mum and I were sitting and said " This isn't like when I was with my other mummy " . I would have loved to have questioned her but my daughter didn't want to . Too late now she is 13 and of course no memories .

When I was working a group of my staff decided to consult a medium. I managed to persuade them not to and that it was very dangerous. I’m so glad I did. It was before I became a believer in Lord Jesus.

Flowerette I went to a house party , a man was going to read the "cards" .Well it was a laugh "who can tell the future from cards?" We went into another room and spread out the cards ..After a few mins he stopped and said "I need to use mediumship" yeah right someone told him my mum just died! Then he told me a lady came and stood behind me. Ok ( I didn't see that coming lol ) but then he started talking about her in detail , her life etc.. said he was getting neighbour but also grandma . My husbands gran had lived a few doors away from us . He never mentioned my mum and nobody their would have known about this old lady. I can away feeling much better because if one person came through it means they are all there.

I think that there are more things in heaven and earth than we can ever know, as the saying goes. My faith tells me there is an afterlife in which I believe although I’ve no idea what form that will take. As regards ghosts/mediums etc I simply don’t know as I’ve never experienced anything like that, nor visited a medium. I think that some people are more spiritually aware/sensitive than others and might not even know it themselves until ā€˜something’ happens. I would love to say that I am like this, but I don’t think I am. A pity, as I would love to have some sense of my parents being around. Unfortunately, I only get that in infrequent dreams, which I look at as my own mind trying to comfort me.

Yes I do believe something goes on, not sure what and probably never will.

I was sat in my lounge, it was about 18 mnths ago, I hadn't been feeling well but this certain morning felt much better so got dressed mad a drink and sat on sofa, just to my left I was looking at some flowers my dad had sent me, I then caught sight of movement to my right. I looked and it was my mum, her head was laying on a pillow and smiling, it was just her head and shoulders, it was like a greyish not quite see through image. It was like she was pretending to be asleep but trying not to laugh (you know when children do it at bedtime, pretending to be asleep)

I was fully awake, feeling better, I hadn't had any medication etc. I was shocked but I know what I saw, no one will ever take that away from me. My mum died just over 3 years ago.

One of the upsetting things I felt was when I visited the funeral home, she did not have a little pillow under her head. It was awful.

I have never seen my DH who died 9 yrs ago, but have felt his presence.

My young gson when he was about 4 announced he was going to the park, his mum said "who with"? he said Grandad B****!

He had never met grandad as had been born after he died.
Gson also used to say he used to live in India.

We can't all be mad!

There must surely be "something", going by all the people who believe they have had something happen, or felt a presence.

Or maybe not.

I do believe and have had a couple of experiences that can’t be explained. One happened when I was with a friend and we both saw something.

Wasn't it Carl Sagan who said we are made of "star stuff"? "The cosmos is within us. We are made of star stuff. We are a way for the universe to know itself."

The above is so true. I have studied astrology and it’s nothing to do with fortune telling. We are part of the cosmos and the planets are within all of us. Even Stephen Hawking acknowledged that our hearts contain The Sun and in astrology the sign of Leo is ruled by the sun which in turn rules the heart. Far too complicated to explain here but there is much we don’t understand.

The poster who commented on time not being linear is spot on.

I didn’t exist for millions of years before I was born .
I wont exist for millions of years after I’m gone.
The first didn’t bother me ….neither will the latter.

Can someone please tell me where in the bible it says not to meet with a medium? The Bible mentions prophets quite often so what is the difference between them. Soothsayer are mentioned also

Bible passages:

The Lord said to Moses, ā€œSpeak to the entire assembly of Israel and say to them:

ā€¦ā€˜Do not turn to mediums or seek out spiritists, for you will be defiled by them.ā€™ā€
- Leviticus 19.1, 31

A man or a woman who is a medium or a necromancer shall surely be put to death. They shall be stoned with stones; their blood shall be upon them.
- Leviticus 20.27

[Moses speaks to the Israelites:

When you enter the land the Lord your God is giving you, do not learn to imitate the detestable ways of the nations there. Let no one be found among you who sacrifices their son or daughter in the fire, who practises divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord; because of these same detestable practices the Lord your God will drive out those nations before you.
- Deuteronomy 18.9–12

So Saul died for his breach of faith. He broke faith with the Lord in that he did not keep the command of the Lord, and also consulted a medium, seeking guidance. He did not seek guidance from the Lord.
- 1 Chronicles 10.13–14

[Of Manasseh, King of Judah:]

He sacrificed his own son in the fire, practised divination, sought omens, and consulted mediums and spiritists. He did much evil in the eyes of the Lord, arousing his anger.
- 2 Kings 21.6

Josiah [a good king of Judah] got rid of the mediums and spiritists, the household gods, the idols and all the other detestable things seen in Judah and Jerusalem. This he did to fulfil the requirements of the law [of God]…
- 2 Kings 23.24

And when they say to you, ā€œInquire of the mediums and the necromancers who chirp and mutter,ā€ should not a people inquire of their God? Should they inquire of the dead on behalf of the living?
- Isaiah 8.19

The Bible mentions prophets quite often so what is the difference between them.

In the Bible, prophets are the servants of God. They pass on messages from him to the people, sometimes about the future, sometimes not. Any supernatural knowledge they have comes to them from God.

Mediums are not the servants of God: they disobey his command not to inquire of the dead (Deuteronomy 18.11). Any supernatural knowledge they have comes to them from Satan.

After my DS died tragically at the age of 2 I was so torn as to firstly believe in god in any shape or form, and also heaven. If there was a god why take my son away from me? Eventually I decide there was definitely something, perhaps heaven as I desperately needed to believe he was somewhere and with other deceased loved ones.
As time went on I still felt undecided. Roll on 20 years. Due to unfortunate circumstances my husband and myself had to make the decision to take on our new born GS. Whilst preparing the nursery for his arrival and alone in the house, I found the curtains in the room were tucked up over the curtain rail! No windows were open and I could find no reason why this would happen. I went downstairs thinking there was some logic reason but when I returned to the room the bedding on the cot was turned back as if I had prepared it ready to put my DGS to sleep! There was definitely no way this could have happened logically,. I have since decided it was my DS telling me he was happy I was going to raise our DGS. I had been having very mixed emotions and feeling very overwhelmed and nervous of the unexpected turn of events. It gave me both great comfort and happiness and I became a definite believer.

Nice attitude- hope you hear from your Dad . Personally I can’t help thinking afterlife is total wishful thinking

Primrose53 Mon 11-Mar-24 22:25:36

I apologise if I have mentioned this on another thread but I remain convinced I saw my Dad a few months after he died.

I was walking through a churchyard and following the path around and as I turned the corner my Dad was leaning against a headstone with the brightest light shining above him. It was a sunny day and as I shielded my eyes he disappeared. This is not the church yard he is buried in by the way but one we often went to together.

I don't believe in God as such, but I do in a Universal Consciousness, also an afterlife and reincarnation. An acquaintance said she didn't believe in ghosts as she had never seen one. I asked how she could be so sure. When she walks down the road, does she touch everyone she sees to make sure they have a corporeal body? It gave her food for thought. I believe we have choices when our body dies, and our continued existence is in the state we choose, to learn and evolve and maybe decide to return to a corporeal body
again at some point.

Is your self a thing ; or is your self just a feeling you have ?

What is it you see when you see a ghost? Are you not simply hallucinatimg?

I certainly didn’t have a visual hallucination. What I saw was very real and I don’t suffer from anxiety or take drugs and only drink a little.smile

Wilm Mon 11-Mar-24 21:32:11

I had a similar experience to Lucyd. My Dad died suddenly, my youngest child was 3 at the time, one day I saw him waving thru the window into the garden, when I asked who he was waving to he said ā€˜Grandad, he’s on the swing’. I just started waving too

I definitely believe in life after death because of Jesus. He left heaven, was born on earth, lived, died and rose again from the dead and has promised that those who follow Him will, one day, be with Him. And in John 3 verse 16 it says that 'God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him would not perish but have everlasting life.' As a bible believing Christian I would never visit a medium as in both the old and new testament it is firmly forbidden.

I see it this way too. I especially like the Bible verse where Jesus tells his followers, ā€˜I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am’ (John 14.3). And in Revelation it says that the people of God will be with him and ā€˜There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain’ (Revelation 21.4). I am looking forward to it.

My husbands eyes flew open during the night, he found his childhoods friend dad sat on the edge of the bed, he said to my DH "i have just come to say cheerio and to ask you to look after that lad of mine, don't let him buy a Moto Guzzi, he will loose money on it. Look after yourself lad, you have turned out alright in the end" My husband looked at the clock it was 05:11. Two hours later my husbands friend called to say that his dad had died, my DH asked at what time, his friend replied 05:12. He hadn't been expected to die.

A couple of days after my dad died I had gone to bed before my husband and was dozing. I felt as if my husband had sat on his side of the bed and turned round and kissed me. When I looked there was no one there and I have always thought it was my dad saying goodbye. A few days after my mum died my daughter and her son , then aged two, were in her kitchen. My grandson was staring up at the ceiling saying something and when my daughter asked what he was saying he said that he was saying hello to Nanny Peg which was what he used to call my mum. My daughter said say goodbye to her now which he did and went back to playing. A while after my mum died I had a dream that I met her at a fair. I asked what she was doing there as she was ill and she said that she was okay now. I also dreamt about my ex husband a while after he died and in it I met him in Italy and he said that it was where he lived now.

Grandmama Mon 11-Mar-24 18:41:08

I believe in life after death but cannot imagine what it will be like. DH died last year and I feel/believe that he is very close and I now feel close to my late parents as well - I don't believe this closeness is all in my imagination.

In my twenties, on a day out, a friend and I had a session with a 'fortune teller'. She mentioned a relationship in my life - not in precise detail - but it did rather shake me. She couldn't have possibly known about it, and she couldn't have picked up on anything I'd said.

Twice since DH died I have heard my Christian name said very clearly - the last time quite recently and I answered 'yes'. No-one else was in the house.
